note that bicycling applies great pressure on your kidneys on the long run, and they give you less flexibility in your hamstrings i.e. no more high kicks for you if you stop practice

heh i remember my first TKD class i was complaining to my teacher that i couldnt do a full cross-split, he told me not to worry and that he'll bring a gun and shoot my back if it doesnt work by the time yellow belt testing comes along... he was kidding, but i only understood his joke a couple of years later! stretch, then go down as much as you could and hold it for 1 minute. get up relax your legs for like 10 seconds and go back down. do not do this every day tho.. make sure your muscles rest, so do it like 4-5 days a week also, if ur bathe (in a tub) or in a hot shower try to relax ur muscles and stretch (or in a jaguzzi if you have that luxury) do it and send us a pic

did your MA change ur manners?
mantis replied to mantis's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
i know.. yah im using this very often but that's not what im asking for example i used to fight with my dad a lot, and confront him a lot.. until i learned to "absorb" his energy and then spit it back at him later.. it actually helped avoid lots of fights with my old man -
pray mantis
mantis replied to JKDkid2's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
always keep ur options open and expand ur horizon.. i dont like the mentality of having prejudice to ur MA and closing up ur mind towards others, u know... when i first visited my school the guy showed me the history of the art with illustrations, diagrams, the art's family tree and all that... i think most of the asian cultures (including indian, and middle eastern) have a very good way of documenting what they appreciate in their culture and history -

mantis replied to JKDkid2's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts

i found a TKD school that has a Hapkido class in the curriculum.. i think im going to try it... Although i challenged my Jr. kung fu master to show me how he could defend hi kicks. The way kung fu peeps do it is they stay away from you but once you kick (they either deflect, or dodge) they jump really close to you where you cannot kick anymore, and you have to use your hands which they have a greater advantage over you. They have an amazing manipulation of your center of weight..

they could hurt at the beginning if ur not used to stances like the horse stance (which they make us do for long minutes) if makes ur legs stronger tho, especially when u feel they're shaking and you can walk or crawl anymore.. btw, styles like wushu do take other styles to the extreme. I can compare it to 7-star mantis.. im told wushu goes as low as two ft in height, which is not something you want to do when you fight vs. standing tall in a tiger-ride in the 7-star mantis gung fu...

Ape Style
mantis replied to fallen_milkman's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
well.. ape style is used as the lower body style for mantis boixng too... so if you search for 7-star mantis you should be able to find enough about ape as well i know we use things like the white ape coming out of cave and things like that
