  1. I have yet to see a High school wrestling program teach effective moves and situations that would be used in a real fight. Sure you can take it for the idea of learning I guess. But personaly I would take it so that I find myself in positions and ask myself ...now what would I do if it were a RL fight. From that you can learn to increase your MA. But personaly HS Wrestling is like Tae Bo in my views. Sure you learn to do a few neat things, and keep you in shape but it doesn't give you fighting lessons.
  2. My style was created out of nessesary combat and warfare and for protection and security of the Emperor of Japan. We follow Jujitsu which many people confuse with BJJ. Original Jujitsu had many names. Most commonly was Bushido which is the way of the warrior. Orginal Jujitsu used the following systems. strikes, pressure points, jointlocks, joint manipulations, wrestling, throws, sacrifice takedowns, kicks, weapons training, studing battle tactics, chokes, holds, counter techniques to all. Now the concept was to use this stuff to protect your master and yourself. The idea was to master it and become good at it. Some masters used strength, others used flow and relaxation and leverage, others used speed. Use your skill in Martial Fighting Arts and keep it upgraded according to the world around you and how it fights. Many systems have been outdated but we keep it realistic. With all that said we have stayed true to the original design and techniques of our system. Our style is reconized through the Imperial Temples of Japan which are the Emperors decentants. Only 50 styles are reconized and some forms of Jujitsu are not or other japanese styles. There is nothing I can add or take out that would be defying our laws and concepts on Bushido and Jujitsu. There for we are original.
  3. Ummmm Son Goku......you are a MMA lol Praying Mantis and Tai Chi are two differnt styles are you taking 7star Praying Mantis or another form? MMA Means mixed martial arts which means more then one style or system of fighting or martial arts.
  4. This is a catch 22 and has been done on other posts and threads many times. If I know the guy is armed even if I don't see the weapon and he is threatening me in a way that I feel is lethal threats or deadly threats. Then Yeah I am gonna act first, This is what I have been trained to do, and what I will tell you from Experience I would do over and over again. I am not telling anyone else to do that , but it's what I will do to protect myself. I have bounced at bars and had to quit because of so many fights and I was in Jail alot for doing my job, Often times a redneck or gangster walks in trying to find the bouncers and start with them. Well I'm not intemidated, I have in the past struck first and never regreated it. You don't know what will happen and I won't risk my life waiting to actualy see someone who is threatening my life pull out a weapon or come at me with it. That is a gamble I won't take and would ask that my children never take it either. I have seriously hurt people and our dojo has two students who killed other men and only one went to prison for a very small time. The Legal system is very messed up at times, and when someone comes at me with a knive, gun, or intent to seriously hurt me the Legal system is the last thing on my mind. Me being there for my wife, and kids is priority #1
  5. I do this all the time, want to know how to do it again and again and again....and what you were experiencing is not like a runners high, nor was it body muscle memorization, it is a sacred thing. Anyways do the below. Do your kata again outside with instrimental/tribal music really low, blind fold yourself and relax, breathe, while you are moving and doing your waza or kata listen instead to the sounds around you and smells. It will happen over and over. I won't go into details but just do as I said and you should seriously think about becoming highly addicted and determined more then you are now, what you had was a 5% dose of Ki energy. When you begin to concentrate on your self you lose it. instead allow the energy to flow from you by relaxing and just doing it. Good luck
  6. Then I did a good job- My goal was to help him and sometimes you have to feed a wounded bird. They will fly on thier own.
  7. Yes and our Grandmaster has actualy allowed a few children in the childrens class of our style to train absolutly free. Other students in the Adult class know of this and so do I. The children that get free lessons have very poor families. I am an Instructor under my Grandmaster and once a 45 year old brown belt 3rd degree got wind of this and complained. I put my foot down on that matter and challenged anyone who disagreed with the wisdom of our Grandmaster. It was quickly put to rest. You have to keep in mind you are paying for what you get and you get what you pay for. But for a skilled man to do something free to someone who is underprivaliged is worth more then words can say. You should honor your Masters and style with not only your words and commitment but with your actions and protection.
  8. The double promotion is always an issue of jelously, right and wrong, and overall drama. If a Master is a 10th degree in a style and he is dying and has no actual heir to the style and he has only two 6th degrees under him I see no reason why that Grandmaster could not just promote the 6th degrees to imidiate 10th. On the other hand if your style is not dying out, and you're not in the middle of lossing your main master with noone higher to teach you then It should be done a certain way. Most schools that have double or triple promoted only did so to save a school or style. I have never heard of any that did it for any other reason. If a student was to be double promoted you should all agree with your Grandmaster, master, or Instructors decision. If it serves the style or school then it is never wrong. If from some reason the G.Master, Master, or Instructor double or triple or more promotes it is probably a sign that your Master is playing favorites, which is very unprofessional and very much frowned upon.
  9. Hmmm your question is very tricky to answer because so many don't understand what Chi and Ki can do. I am a firm super super firm believer that Ki energy has No limits. I believe that one needs only to boost the output energy, relax, meditate, and have faith and it will be done. I train in Iron Body but unlike others I have two perspectives. I train my body to roll and take punches in a relaxed manner then I become very stiff and do breathing exerciseing while another student or instructor hits me with a stick or board at a medium power hit. Then after an hour of both of those I use the Energy shield of Ki to keep it from hurting me. Again a person swings a board, or stick at me and I simply visualize a energy shield around my body sticking out 1 inch or so and becoming solid. Yes you can feel the stick hit you but as you relax while in pain it slowly starts to not hurt, then I ask them to swing harder and harder in new areas, I have seen people take full hits to the groin and break boards with no cup. So I believe in training for something on more then one level. WITH SPEED HOWEVER THIS IS TRICKY....Many people think of speed and don't understand there is one rule to speed....being relaxed. I often see people do reverse punches in a very strong cat stance and boom they launch thier fist and come back. What they don't understand is if they just relaxed it would go faster. Ki is the energy and faith you have that ends up performing supernatural abilities. So if you wish to train Ki for speed I would say that you first train your body to relax and kick or punch while relaxed think of a speed smack not a power hit. Then begin visualizing that you are faster then you are actualy hitting. Tell yourself "I can relax and hit faster" Realize you are faster then your oppenant and boom hit hit hit hit. The other thing about speed which everyone does wrong is chambering your hits. What good is kicking or punching at 200 m.p.h. if you chamber it all the way to your side again and set it in position for another strike? Chambering kicks and hits is only for power moves, for speed you need to learn how to do the 2-4 inch punch or kicks and deffinatly learn Pressure Points so you hit in softer areas. But while you practice Don't chamber your punches or kicks just roll around to another hit, and relax and speed hit while you do this visualize energy from your chest and stomach that fuels your speed.......then visualize it pours out into your hands, arms, legs and feet. GOOD LUCK....and to tell you the truth I really can't think of a good exercise for speed other then what I just said. As I said though Ki energy has no boundries other then your mind and non faith in something. Practice mediation and some form of kicking, throwing, or punching and visualize energy from your stomach fueling your power and speed....good luck
  10. Many people are going to bash me for this but oh well... I used Martial Arts to defend others who can't properly defend thierself. In most cases when I see those wanna be pimps and gangsters I am looking for a fight. In years past I would go to known clubs where some of them hang out and catch a few of them when 2-3 of them were there and wait for them to start on me. Although I was looking for a fight I never actualy started it. I stopped looking for fights after I had a friend who was with me during a huge brawl get placed in the Hospital. I took it out on myself and blamed my actions for it which I know now is only 1/2 the reason he got hurt. Basicaly he now has brain damage and acts like a child at times and he was a good friend of mine. A gang beat him up outside a club and severly kicked and stomped his head while he was unconcious and the club manager did nothing. If I were single and no kids I would seek revenge, but because I know that if I continue this they will shoot at my house and try to follow me around I won't put my kids and wife in that situation. As for those who witnessed this kind of horriable violence in thier neighborhoods I feel you and would like to tell you that One man and One voice does make a differnce. Those who are the true invulerable warriors are ones who have no loved ones in the world. I have learned that phrase well.....so long as I have friends and family I have to always watch my actions. I was bullied when I was young under another instructor who taught me fighting is always wrong....My view on that has changed now and I wish I would have fought those times when I choose an open hand instead of a closed fist. martial arts was designed to protect the body from harm while teaching greater virtues and aspects about the universe, life, and the self. If one does not train in both, one will never know either. Those who seek peace, must first win a war.
  11. Well we train till you have muscle failure if your black belt or higher in our dojo. Those of whom don't know what that is let me give an example. I had to take flip falls for 4 hours straight, I would throw a punch and another student would block PP hit me and throw me anyway they wanted but so long as it was a Flip Fall technique for me. After that day I felt great and sore. The next day I couldn't stand at all I was on a cane. 2 days later I was barely walking and we went to Ponderosa to eat dinner. While I had a plate of food and was starving I walked back to my seat and WAM my legs went out and the food went everywhere I fell and was so embaresed my arms and legs didn't react to taking a side fall correctly which is how you're suppose to fall and everything went totaly limp. I finaly was able to get up and the resterant thought I slipped on water so they freaked out because I hit hard and they gave me a free dinner ticket. I took it but I explained to them what really happened, and the manager said that the others who saw me fall would be upset if I didn't accept it. So I did. But about your question, when I train I never get cranky, I am tired and want to go home and vomit and sleep. Usualy in most cases people who come in the dojo are tired and cranky but when they leave they are very relaxed, sore, and ready for nap time. I have went to the dojo and worked out when I had the flu and was extremely sick and everytime I started to feel better. Dojo + me sick = Feeling better In most cases anyways.
  12. Yeah I would say the white belt has to do with your new surroundings and most people see white as the color of innocense, purity, new begginnings, which could be you stuck in a new area new job, new friends, and feeling lost. But in my point of view, since so much of it seemed to do with a father figure or grandfather figure I believe there is something to it as well. Just because your father has passed on to the other side doesn't mean he is not there to listen or that you can't miss him. Perhaps that new job or new area has something to do with him like where or what he did.....I don't know exactly because I would have to know you.... The thing is when someone dreams people in differnt cultures and views see an object in thier dream as something else. To understand your dreams you have to take each NOUN or thing and describe what you feel from it and assign it a few virtues or emotions. Then you take each EVENT in your dream and do the same thing. Some people see Spiders as a Protector, others see them as Evil. But in almost every case a Spider has to do with your Mothers love towards you. Usualy when I ask someone how they view the spider that is how they will view their mother or her love to them or thier feelings about her. The Brain tries to send us messages about how we feel so we can promote health and long life, take your time to listen to the dreams and you will find they may start coming faster and more often with new stories to tell. Good luck with the new things in your life, and if your stuck I would reflect on your Father, perhaps he or his life has an answer or meaning for you right now.
  13. I am not familiar in the one finger zen. I am sorry, although I am highly informed of Qi Gong which is a great chinese art. I follow the Japanese and India/Tibet ideas more. but that is just me. I saw pictures but no real instructions for mediation or form. If you all want some guidance I have posted a few exercises on the forum post in Internal Ats named "Real Ki/Chi Training!!" What I have learned is once you know what the tingly, numbing like energy feels like one could literaly come up with millions of katas, and techniques to increase it. But please I would advice highly against lifting weights for ki training....it simply grounds one back into the physical instead of increasing spiritual energy
  14. Hmmm Where did you get this information, the Southern and Northen style of Kung Fu very very much disapproved of heavy weights in training. Everything from kicking to punching was based on speed. If one were to take up serious lifting and increase muscle in arms and legs the flexablity and speed greatly goes downhill. Saying that training the physical body to lift weights will increase ones ki energy flow is like saying that reading a book will train a persons ability to jump higher....they have absolutly nothing to do with each other. Soon as the world learns that the spiritual energies share no laws or functions common with physical objects and ideas the training of a young mind could begin. This is why most Kung Fu Grandmaster and Master is very very skinny and looks like they have only 11 inch arms yet they can use thier Ki or Chi to push back cars and lift them. Demonstrations of energy strength are exercised by building ki, not by trying to actualy lift a car or super heavy weight everyday. Only once one becomes a master of Ki and shows and demonstrates thier ability to do superhuman things do they take up demos proving superpowerful weightlifting. Also before you comment on Japanese ideas of ki know that I study very heavily in the Japanese applications of Ki which were also done in a chinese like manner. Although Japanese methods in Martial Arts did include lifting men, pushups, chinups and stones on bars it was intended to increase lift strength for throwing and crushing in the hands, not for Ki energy. What most people don't like to admit or agree with is that weight lifting is very very bad for energy training even in India who demonstrate the most remarkable superhuman feats in my opinon they never power lift weights. What you have done is confuse cartoons with a real energy force. and you have confussed Physical apperance with energy reception Stop watching DBZ ....its a great cartoon but it's not a biography or history report for martial arts or energy training what so ever. I am sorry to those that gave thier hours of training up to power lifting weights. You are relying on physical attributes to do that - not spiritual energy. Training to smile and laugh 1 time per day will give you 100 fold the Ki power then training to lift 5 times your weight nonstop everyhour. Think about it.
  15. Well does this powermeter of yours aim towards how strong a persons energy reserve is, thier strength in lifting, thier power in hitting, or thier speed in anything? I am just wondering because even though I scored really really high I am reminded of the very very slim frames of the women in our dojo who break more bricks then the biggest white belt guys some over 290 weight. If it is refering to stanima our dojo loves to show the average joe of how winded they can become in just a 10 min fight, mostly the skinner a person is the higher thier stanima. If it is refering to speed- that is unlimited and only matters on skill I have seen both 350 pound men and 80 pound boys do combo hits at remarkable speeds. I am not trying to make fun of your powerlevel idea, its cute and all but I was just wondering where you got it from, and what rules or guidlines it follows..... btw I am 270 pounds 15% fat on a military standard of measuring. Age 27 Height 5.11 Max Bench 230 .
  16. Nope lol.....MA is all the sports I have time for. I am completely obsesed with it and every year I seem to become more intune with my love for it. On days that I miss I literaly become sick, on days when I am sick and look like I am dying I go and become better. yeah I know I am crazy, but atleast I am dedicated =p If my bestfriends funeral was the day of my Dojos training I would have to just take a few minutes to remember him/her and then say. Jesus said "let the dead bury the dead" yeah its that bad...... Join the dark side, it's much easier on you I promise...
  17. Im going to get alot of hate directed towards me but I interput dreams and instead of discribing why they are very important I will just jump in and help describe what your dream means. #1 your dream signifies the displacement or loss of something. In the dream its your Belt Rank but in reality it could be a few things. But I will post them below and possiable answers. #2 Disagreeing with any judgement in a dream and then for some reason accepting it physicaly or not being able to stop it and still being upset over the action usualy means one thing = SUPRISE! I will add this all up below in a minute. #3 Your master and dojo has meaning too, I don't know you personaly but I would say you look at them as being signs of power, skill, and leadership. In almost everycase of dreams of power and skill the reality points to a Father or Grandfather figure in your life. Ok so add that all up and you have about 2 possiable meanings, or they could mean both. Below is the first interputation and I have been doing this for countless years so take in the advice and I hope it helps. #1 Interpetation You are having a dream telling or warning of a loss/ or death of a Father figure, Grandfather figure or Man you look up to highly in your life. In the dream it will come out as a suprise and you will be in denile over it. - Yes I know it sounds out there but this is interpetation after all I didn't have the dream. #2 Interpetitation ... Ok this one runs down the emotial side, it means that you are missing out on a Father or Grandfather figure in your life and even though you think of them but don't physicaly know them they are about to become even more lost to you or a death will result. This is also a future dream. I would say that if you don't know your father or never met him or maybe you just don't speak to him much or a Grandfather then one of them are about to be taken away, so Make up now please. #3 Interpetation-- Ok this is not a dream of the future and hits home on the emotional needs....Basicaly You need a Father figure or Grandfather figure, or you miss one of them and are in some form of denile about them...if I knew you better I would go further on it....good luck I hope it helps. (((Please noone else respond untill Karatekid replies thank you and yes I know you all think Im a nut no need to rant n rave about it just yet.))
  18. Hey ShotokanKid!! Man I am sorry about this. The stuff you described is what we call in our Dojo a "Redeye" I am not sure where the idea came from but it basicaly means someone who learns or uses Martial Arts to inflict pain, fear, and revenge on others. I have dealt with 3 people like this in my life, in each one I approached a differnt beggining but everyman is differnt. I will tell you that trying to stay calm, peacefull, and wise is not always seen by these "Bullies" as a way of helping them or teaching them. Mostly they beleive you fear them in most cases. The other thing is one of the guys I actualy challenged because he was picking on people I knew and it angered me deeply and I had to seriously keep my head on straight from not really hurting him. The last guy I wont give you the info on that because I went in neutral and didn't take action when I should have, so that's all I think you need to know. But the big thing is that in everyone of these "Bullies" I latter learned they were seriously depressed and angry all the time! Perhaps you should seek to find out what troubles this mans soul and find out how he views the world, and those he is hurting. The biggest thing that will keep you from making peace and a impresison on the 30 year old is your age unfortunatly. I would like to say that a 30 year old would listen to you, but sometimes age doesn't equal wisdom and vis-versa. Good luck with him, and if he doesn't stop you should seek to learn a few counters to jointlocks. If he does the wristlocks only when you shake hands then you know it's coming, and he probably is not good enough to get them during a fight. But good luck friend.
  19. Wow....the only time I have heard that is from a student whos dojo didn't believe in having the Instructor interact with its students like in even the lightest forms of sparring or teaching. I later learned that student claimed to beat his Instructor 50% of the time when he sparred with him a few times. I told the student if your master can not impress you at all, and if he can not 100% destory you in sparring or real life combat then what makes you believe he is worthy of teaching you. I am not trying to be mean, just blunt....but are you having issues with how or what your Instructor is teaching you? Just wondering and do you think he/she could beat you in a sparring game...after all we are all here to learn how to defend ourself, and achieve peace. But I would like to see a Master who can teach both instead of one.
  20. Hi, yeah I said that I would train in my Grandmasters dojo everyday, if he would allow it. The thing is I meant what I said. I do train super heavy on off days and hours depending alot to do with how my week was. Normaly outside of class I am helping other classmates to learn how to do moves or something involving the Dojo. If I am not doing that I am exercisersing for my body which could be considered training for MA and I do Iron Body on the side of that. The above question asked how many hours do you spend in your Dojo, so I answered just that. But Training solo and even with a friend or other student is no where near compared in my opinon to training in the Dojo with my Grandmaster. It would be like comparing training for a 10mile Bikerun to doing the Tour de France. But I couldn't total the hours I workout considering Martial Arts....I have had alot of deaths in family and friends related issues, and I am a Landlord on the side. This week its been about 2 hours atleast a day offclass training but on weeks and months that i have time I would literaly be all night till 3am studying and working. I once said in another post that I was far beyond Dedicated, I am literaly obsessed. And I was not kidding....if I were single and with no kids or real responsiablities I would probably work atleast 19 hours every day lol.
  21. That is a sterotype- I was a bouncer for years and heard that I have seen 2% go to the ground and that is usualy only after one is too tired and beaten to stand. Why would you learn to take a guy down on purpose if your in a club, in a line , at the subway, at the air port, at a bank.....Thank about it and you will realize it's useless unless the other guy has studied and grapples you.
  22. Sometimes when we are in the middle of a Drama serious or situation that makes us feel unhappy or sad we begin to turn inside and rethink our paths. I would offer this advice. Martial Arts is about Dedication, Commitment, Loyalty, Honour, Teamwork, Skill, Disapline, and Integrity. Being a Teacher you are suppose to impart these virtues and traits to the students, One can only hope to teach, it is up for the student to listen. From what you said You showed those qualities and your master is probably proud, who knows. Maybe he knew there would be issues and he was just testing your leadership qualities. On a second note- How many of those Virtues and Traits do you beleive your Friend possess....Don't be hard on you. Being a Leader is rough, but keep the main guidelines in mind along with your students goals, When your students goals disrupt the main guidelines you need to take action. I would have made him do Push ups and Jumping Jacks behind me during class. But im rough when it comes to disrespectfull students because in the past we were way to easy on them and they cause more trouble then thier weight often times.
  23. Well we Live where we get full seasons Summer, Fall, Spring, Winter. In our situation of class attendance its like this. In the Summer we get alot more Kids In the Winter we get alot of Adults Spring and Fall differ and you can't see a change at all. But your in Alaska so im not sure this would mean much. But In summer we have more kids because they have time off from school and have time to actualy do stuff other then study and homework. In Winter the Adults come because thier kids are starting School and they feel more energized and it has alot to do with New Years Resoulutions for most hehe.
  24. No our Grandmaster never taught that , the Master under our Grandmaster who I named Mark did. It's confussing. Our Grandmasters school is in Ohio where I attend, Master Marks is in North Carolina. And yes once our Grandmaster learned of all this he freaked out but Master Mark sucked up and forgave him, but now Mark has it coming because he won't stop acting like a self centered child.
  25. You did your Math, and I think you scared him more then I did A Nurse Anistis (Not sure how to spell it ) is light years beyond a Certified Registered Nurse. And yes it is a 6 figure income its a doctors and nurses title. a strange job My wife is going to be difficult and make everyone call her "Doctor Nurse McComas" Yeah its funny hehe our last name is McComas but anyways its a 6-7 year college course and she is through 1 1/2 years arleady she has roughly 5 more to go almost.
