the current UFC heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is a Kempo Master! TMA or MMA, the key here is EDUCATION. its not what u use its how well u use it.

Royce Gracie is impresive...proof that size doesnt matter. -

If im not mistaken, Kahn or in this case kan means king or ruler. so, Shotokan would translate roughly into "the king among the waving pines". if you were to stumble upon such a creature such as a tiger in a forest while meditating on karate, you would so inspired, i know i would, as to adopt its image as your mascot. The King among the Waving Pines and picture a tiger walking among the pine trees under a moonlit sky...the tiger doesnt seem like such a bad idea now does it?

i can relate. although i have graduated from college now, my busy school schedule has manifested itself now in my work load for my career. one thing i do if i must sacrifice all or part of my training is stretch. stretch, stretch, stretch...dont let yourself stiffen up and lose range of motion. technique can be revisited and remembered in a matter of days but loosing flexibility can be a long and painful rebuilding effort. great stuff, great post!

Hapkido/Taekwondo testing
lapulid2 replied to lapulid2's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
agreed. its not like i dont want to pay any certain amount, its just as if they dont talk about fees and stuff just like a salesman wouldnt so as not to put you off a purchase. you know, kindda like wait for him to really want it and then, BANG heres the price! if this is a business, all this should be clear and upfront. -
I think the point here is that the guy was deceitful, dishonorable. You should definitely confront this issue before he does it in a tournament and shames your school. Good Luck!

thats exactly what i thought! -
i believe that in martial arts, prejudice is more so encountered through differences in disciplines i.e. Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Hap Ki Do, Jiu Jutsu etc. I've encountered heavy judgment based on what i practice but seldom because of my race.

Putting McDojos out of Business
lapulid2 replied to Infrazael's topic in Instructors and School Owners
if you study hard and are tested by an accredited council, then no matter what dojang you train in, you will be successful in your art. by the same token, if you train in an ultra exclusive dojang and slack off, then you the student, and not the dojang, have created a Mcdojang environment. if training with children is a turn off then i understand it could be restricting and may perhaps influence your progress. most schools, however, seperated sessions into age groups. from a buddhist temple in China to national martial arts chains... a slacker will always be a slaker and a good student will always find a way to succeed. -
welcome! dont forget defending too.

i practice Hapkido, but the same should apply for any of the grappling arts. is there any training aid out there with limbs and fingers to practice counters and joint manipulation? the only thing i keep seeing is this bob character with no arms, he does me no good. thanks!

Best Karate movie
lapulid2 replied to Pogo's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
if u see only one modern martial arts movie let it be "unleashed" with jet li! the beginning fighting sequence truly represents how a well trained martial artist dances on the line between responsibility and psychosis! -
welcome! great site!
