  1. Congratulations! The sparring portion of the test was hard! But at least you pass it and is over. Just take care of that "mild concussion" and your tendions in your elbow. Good Job!
  2. I believe double promotion has the pros and cons. For an example if the kid is really good and you see that he can perform better than the othesr I will double grade him. But for another part is bad because some parents will complain and will ask why my son doesn't double grade. I think is up to the sensei.
  3. I call my sensei in TX and he give me the ok. Now I have to talk to the TKD instructor about how are we going to do it. I will keep you posted.
  4. Thank you for all your advice. To b3n: my husband and I are Shodan.

  6. I tricked my husband!! You just don't think about it.
  7. I come from another country, Puerto Rico. I'm been here for about 12 years. I knew english but it was more like the one that they(Teachers) teach you at school. I try to use it but nobody will understand me, so I relearn it again. One time I was arguing to the cashier in a supermarket about a dish liquid. I will call it Polmolive and she will call her dish liquid. I was saying the brand and she wil answer me what was really was, a dish liquid.
  8. Recently my son's TKD instructor ask my husband and I if we can teach Shotokan Karate on the days that the school is close. Tkd classes are held Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. He wants us to teach Shotokan Mondays and Wednesdays. I was not sure about this so I call my sensei in TX and he told me to go ahead and do it. Is that a good idea? What do I need to do? What questions do I have to ask him about finances, etc? Any suggestion will be very helpful!
  9. I know what you mean. There is infinity of bunkai in the katas that you can look and discover by yourself. Look all possibilities in a technique of the kata. Take a movement in a kata a try to discover any technique possible in it. Experiment and explore. Anything can happen. I think that's your next level. Good Luck.
  10. Katas are a great workout, specially when you repeat it them over and over again. Keep your spirit high and do your katas with kime.
  11. Relax, stretch and good luck.

  17. I don't wash my belt but if it smells bad I will washed in a flash.
  18. Thank you for your opinion 24fightingchickens. I agree with you. I was a brown belt about that time and yes he did things the military way. I'm not longer training with him for about two years because we move to another state. I use to argue with him a lot. I guess was his pay back.
  19. Your sensei knows how much you can give and do in class. He will let you know when is the time for you to test. Also your opinion counts too. If you don't feel ready just tell your sensei and talk about it. I saw people not passing his test because making too much mistakes in the techniques or forms. One time in a black belt test a student repeat his form 5 times because he keeps making the same mistake. The senseis met with the student to talk to him at the end of the test. They gave another opportunity to take the test.
  20. I forgot my belt and my sensei didn't let me practice. Same thing if you forget your gi.
  21. You have rules in the dojo and he has to follow those rules. If somebody use a necklace can lose it or brake it in kumite. Earings are dangerous too when kumite. It can get stock in the gi and rip your ear. Rings are also dangerous because can cut somebody. Long fingernails can scratch or bend in kumite. You did the right thing.
  22. Congratulations and keep practicing.
  23. My husband and I used to add velcro to the chest part of the gi so it doesn't open. It work.
  24. In my son school they use plastic color boards already interlace in the middle. But he use wood boards too. Depending on the thickness and size the wood boards will be more easy or hard to break.
