Enviroman replied to dippedappe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Whats not effective about swiftly and stealthly taking down an opponent and also i know in bujinkan is ment for street fighting there are alot of cops and army ppl in this style also all that flipping stuff is from the movies and most of the time you are being fooled cause they r showing you a nnja doing Karate if by Katana you mean gun then you r right also ninja didnt use sai thats a karate weapon also tha video was just guys doing tkd Fnally Ninjas were mainly spies which means that once in a while they did assinations the Shogun has his on group of samurai who were assasins alot of that came from the ninja boom in the 80's by fruads so ppl now have a mininterpatation of Ninjutsu Modern ninjitsu/taijutsu practioners train in firearms? Is that what you meant? If so, that's news to me. Hmm, interesting. -

Well, why study espionage if one is not training to be a spy, you know? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...ahem. -
aikido a grappling art?
Enviroman replied to Goju_boi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Umm, you guys? I suppose i'm a tad frustrated with your habit of posing straw men. I, for one, was not mentioning anything about the study of groundfighting techniques without 'resistance.' In truth, i saw nobody else state such either. I gather you're trying to win an argument, rather than have a discussion. That being the case, i bow out. I, too, concede as I don't have the patience to "fight" a losing "war." -

Hi there.

It's a school grade in the American schooling system. Generally, we have elementary school from kindergarten through 6th grade. (Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, etc.) After that, it depends on the area. Some places pick up middle school as being 6th through 8th grade. Other places have junior high which is 7th through 9th. Once you get to high school, (10th through 12th, someplaces are 9th through 12th), they have different names. 9th is generally termed a freshman. 10th is a sophomor, 11th is a junior, 12th is a senior. Once you get to college/university, it's the same thing. first year (technically 13th grade, I suppose) is a freshman, 2nd year sophomore, etc. Aodhan O ok thanks that explained alot Yeah, I think you Canadians call it grade 10.

Kickboxing @ the YMCA

I once fought Mike "Bad Boy" Barnes in the All Valley Tournament. Since I was the reigning champ I only had to fight the final fight. It was great. -
Your moves are based on Chi Sau right? That was what I meant. You try to "stick" to the opponent as a defensive way to control him, sort of. I have heard this. A beginner Wing Chun student (1 month's training), would beat a beginner Shaolin student. But a longtime Wing Chun student (1 years training) would loose to the longtime Shaolin student. This is hardcore generalizing with no consideration of the two individuals I know, but technically, will this be true? Is Shaolin better in a style vs style in the long run? I know a few shaolin students that have studied for about a year. I'd say most karate exponents that have studied for a year are better equipped in a SD situation. Most shaolin styles (from what I've seen) take many years to fully become competent.

united studios of self defense (USSD)

Most people consider USSD to be a black belt factory system...a McDojo of the highest order. -
Tricks for quickly disabling an opponent.
Enviroman replied to WhiteDragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A punch to the stomach is a great fight ender. I dislike the spinning backfist...in fact, I dislike any move where I completely turn my back on my opponent, even if it's only for a second or less... -

I'll never understand why some people get so worked up over a six-pack. Anyway, a combination of crunches, a smaller caloric intake, and increased cardio will help you show your six-pack... -
A strong strike to a person's midsection won't knock them out but it'll incapacitate them long enough for you to either leave or finish the fight...

hapkido.. would you say it is "brutal"??
Enviroman replied to Nick_sam's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
It's supposed to be a combination of Aikido and Tae Kwon Do...so I'm not sure if I'd call it brutal, but it's definitely much more aggressive then Aikido. -
Probably about 5-7 hours due to my internship plus personal time.

I don't really observe any religious holiday, but if I had to pick a time of the year that I feel most people act the kindest toward each other it'd be Christmas.

Are modern Ninjas active?
Enviroman replied to dippedappe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ninjas aren't meant for fighting in the most effective way. They are meant to kill in the most swiftest and stealthiest way, I would think that acrobatics are very useful if not essential for that purpose. I think everyone was referring to ninja in their classical sense: acting as spies and assassins for the Japanese government. And samurai as military warriors. -
Important decision(taekwondo/hapkido or wing chun)
Enviroman replied to viskous's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, if you're doing 4 hours a week you'll need to train on your own. Practice your forms and techniques another 2-4 hours a week in addition to class time. If you can get someone in the class to practice with you, that's even better. It's certainly doable, especially if you like the school. -

Problem with another martial artist (Updated)
Enviroman replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Chat
I agree in part, but you've said that's really not possible. If he's doing it to you there's a good chance he'll do it to someone else. At the very least you should tell your parents or maybe your pastor/priest... -

Actually, I just reread your post and it made me even more mad...I know going to the police might seem rash but what else should a teenager go against a larger, much older man picking on him (and actually hurting him)? -

I don't know where you are located, but i gather it is in the U.S. If so, then let me say this very clearly. It is illegal for anyone to 'prevent' you from opening up your own school in the same town. Monopolies are illegal, per the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890. If anyone were to take any actions against you, they could very well serve time in prison, as well as pay a hefty penalty. No, unfortunetly the material he teaches may be under copyright protection. He may be able to teach the basics, even open a new school with the same style of MA. But the forms may not be taught in another forum without written permission. He may not even be able to use the Orgs name........it sucks but If I were to open an ATA school and teach ATA forms and ATA self defence and claim to be an ATA school in advertisements........I'd loose my shirt. That's a great point. I never thought about forms being copyrighted... -

1) How old are you? Edit: You're 14! If he does it again, definitely report him. A 30ish man has absolutely no right harming a 14-year-old kid. He sounds like a real winner... 2) Just don't shake his hand. If he attempts to hit you or something else report him to the police. People can't just go putting random joint locks on other people. Or you could just say "it's not very Christian of you to be hurting someone smaller and younger than yourself for no reason" since he's helping with Sunday school.
