  1. when i meditate i usually sit indian style and hang my hands over my knees and keep my back straight, breath by pushing out your stomach and not expanding your chest. keep your eyes barely open and try to relax, then count to three while inhaling then hold and count to three, then exhale and count to three. and just do that repeatidly. this will help with breathing alot. i am not sure hwo other arts use meditation but this is how we do it in tae kwon do -scad
  2. i was just wondering if anyone here has been to a loopkicks camp. i am really interested in going and just wanted to see what it is like. so any feedback really is appreciated.i am hoping ot attend 2006 if there is one so if you think you might do the same, let me know. -scad
  3. yeah thunder round house, its Tae Kwon Do, so you kick to the midrift then set, turn the front heel facing target then throw yourself into a spin with your back leg, then another roundhouse to face level in the rotation.
  4. kicking pads is great for accuracy, but you need to be sure that you have enough control to follow through on the hit but not hyperextend your knee on the snap. so pads and weighted bags are great for trainging. though free kicking helps greatly with form and technique, a solid target is extremely benificial
  5. if you are going to use martial arts to vent anger, do it the right way, don't seek revenge on a person, but every time you yell in class or every time you kick a pad, think about your anger and let it out. learning to control your anger is very important though. what you learn in martial arts can't be used against someone that calls you names or makes fun of you. the best thing you can do is avoid a situation and take it out on a pad.
  6. seriously. you have stumbled apon a gold mine. free Tae Kwon DO lessons is insane. if being tought be a korean trained master and free, you and whoever attend that class are the luckiest people on earth. its also funny becuase i take Tae Kwon Do and my masters father is a christian minister. but really, you have found something great. so build a base from that and then seek other training, weither it be Tae Kwon Do or karate. don't just stop there. if you really enjoy it, find a way to continue traing.
  7. first off, take into concideration that you need to do what will make you happy and what you will enjoy, you can goto school everyday and take you classes, but if there is no desire to learn, then there is no point, so if you stick with gumdo then your heart has to aswell. but if you think that going to this place that will teach the art you want to learn most, then do it, wether your master teaches gumdo or tai chi, he will have respect for another art one martial artist to another. so go where you feel you will get the most out of. besides, learning two arts can only help you to improve.
  8. techno is great for traing, especialy drills. if you keep beat and concintrate on keeping it the cardiovascular side of the workout if awesome, aswell as endurance. so techno and anything with a fast beat. then again for intensity, some people have different taste, so anything that makes you want to move is good. so find a band or random bunch of songs and playthem.
  9. if you have a fileshare program you can download alot of videos, i have some korean tigers videos and various clips of tkd sparring but nothing speacial or very long. but check kazaa, thats where i found mine.
  10. Ah, sorry, I hadn't seen this question despite the thread bump. No, the way it works in the ATA is when you get to 6th degree, you are ELIGIBLE for the title of Master the next year. There is basically a year long prep after you pass your 6th degree testing before you can test for Mastership. So, it's 5 years between 5th and 6th (Minimum plus other considerations), and if you pass, then it's another year before you can test for Master, but you are still a sixth degree. It's I believe a minimum of 6 years between 6th and 7th, plus other considerations. Aodhan my school is backed by WMF (world martial arts foundation) and my master is 5th dan and he is officially a master and certified by kuki wan(the WMF headquarters in korea.

  14. actually taking two is a great idea, it will broaden your spectrum for style and i agree with scottnshelly as well, you can only improve. i'm at TKD any where from 3 to 6 days a week and beleive me if taken seriously like most martial arts. TKD is great, especially if your instructor like to teach traditional. nomatter what it be..will power and heart produces great things
  15. i take TKD in florida.and though our school is traditional as far as poomse and style goes..the advanced classes, blackbelt club and masters club..we do alot of olympic style drills..and in a full contact situation i find TKD very effective.
