I find that I get angry at my partners these days without trying to and it has benefited my fighting. I think focused energy is good but if you're raging all over the place it will give your opponent an adventage.

evening the odds for females
darkness replied to darkness's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
ooh! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm getting a better idea of what I need to working on and/or doing differently. -
I love lucid dreaming. It's great. I've done it as long as I can remember every once in a while. I wish I could do it all the time. By the way, I found that for me, doing martial arts is dream helped it in real life. Virtual training partners are great, plus things can be figured out in the dreamworld that I would not have thought of normally.

As a girl, I would have to say that at my school the fact that I am female (and also much younger) is probably never forgotten. I don't think I get treated differently, or if I do it is only for practical reasons. I get respected, probably in part because I can keep up with the rest of the group.

Hello So there's this problem for female martial artists. We aren't as naturally strong as men. (tired of hearing about it, but it unfortunately is true) How does one train to help match up? What do you think is best worked on? Flexibility? Speed? Pure skill? I'm not content being seocnd class sparrer forever. What does one do? Darkness

Crosscountry skiing and running seem to be really great as a compliment to karate. Especially crosscountry skiing, probably because it's such hard work for the abs.

Ouch! blocking roundhouses with hand does not work so well. I done that too.

Yes. ...But a guy with a gun at a distance can take down most anyone if he is even half decent shooter It really depends on situation

"Toque" pronounced "T-oo-k" with a long o sound It's a Canadian word meaning a winter hat. I love using it around my Californain cousins because it they have no idea what I'm talking about

I pay $40 flat rate for a month of karate 3 times per week for 2 hours each session. That's in Candian. I think it's pretty cheap, but then, we don't have out own building and stuff. We train at a school gym.

Something I just thought about-I find sleeping when I'm worried over something very beneficial. When I wake up everything that happened before seems not as prevalent and I can deal with it better.... Not that that is much help in most situations though

white, yellow, orange, green, brown, black but the orange really looks alot more like red than orange, dunno what's with that

Well, personally I find the best thing for me is to warm my body up well and do stretches before. I find it really increases my performance and helps to relax my mind and body. Best wishes

You know, the number of people that have access to a dojo, any kind of dojo, is a very, very small amount. How many dojos do you think china has? Africa, the whole continent? South America? It's easy to forget, but how we live, any of you out there with a computer, do not live the way the majority of the people on this earth live.

I think that it is probably the humity level rather than the actual weather, but I dunno

I left my belt at home for karate. Man did I feel(and probably look) stupid too! Any one else leave something important at home ever? I'm not the only one who has done this.....right?

I'd have to disagree. There is much to fear. Fear is as natural as any other "feeling. It is a bit like a alert system; it lets you know when to take extra caution. Of course, unreasonable fears are different. Those should be worked on so you may eventually overcome them, since they will only get in your way.

Where do you look when you fight? I look in their eyes, which at least doesn't betray where I'm gonna hit them, but it's still not great because I can't keep track of what their doing with legs and sometimes get kicked because I don't get out of the way in time.

Mine is a ten minute bike ride there and a twenty minute bike ride back since it is at the bootom of a good sized hill

Fourteen is technically the maximum age, but there doesn't seem to be any kids older than about twelve. I don't know why, unfortunately this seems to be a quite common event eith regards to sports at that age though
-
At my dojo the kids class is from 7-14.

As a girl, it doesn't matter to me, male or female. However, one thing I like about sparring females is that they are less likely to hit me hard high up on the chest than men which is nice, because that hurts.

I am sixteen.
