  1. for all of you that take Aikido, what kind of practice do you usually do outside of the dojo?
  2. I know there is a forum on standard training music, but what about music while you train in a softer style like Aikido? Now, I know I dont know excatly what that training is, but something like 'eye of the tiger' just seems kind of out of place for that style
  3. you have a point... I guess im just a samurai nerd
  4. both...im interested in learning weapons, of course, but the actual techniques of Aikido is what attracted me in the first place would it be described kind of like judo, but without chokes? I dont know...
  5. yea I guess the only real way would be to call and see probably better not go walking down the street with a katana strapped to your belt though might get some strange looks
  6. its probably already illegal to carry live blades in most states in america, but how about training swords like bokken or shinai?
  7. I dont know when, but I will be headin to the dojo soon to check it out, ya know class times/costs ect. watching is a good idea...I wonder how old are most of the people that take it I only wonder because way back when I took TKD there were like 8 year olds and 50 year olds so ya know I have no idea
  8. im very close to deciding to take Aikido, in fact I may be travelling to the dojo to talk to the instructor soon... one question I have is about the weapons utilized in Aikido, like in general what weapons are used and how far do you take them? I know it will vary depending on where you go, but im just asking in a general sense

  12. whoa! do you have the other half of this amulet? thats EXACTLY what happened to me there are no Iaido/kendo ect. schools around here so I bought a couple bokken (one was white oak) so when they come in the mail(probably in a couple days) im just gonna hafta wing it
  13. LOL yes! I spent 5 years in front of a tv studying the ancient masters (Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Steven Segal) and now I will travel the world with my newfound skills and defeat the people who have 20 years of legitimate training! it'll work, trust me
  14. nice stories, swdw I think its natural to get angry when you see injustice like that, but what separates people with discipline and without discipline is how they react to those situations i.e. running in and beating the crap out of the attacker, or verbally subduing the attacker without being violent but thats just my 2 cents
  15. I see... guess I should stick to wearing them only when I excercise probably be safer that way
  16. hey thanks for the replies that book looks good, but unfortunately there isnt a Barnes & Noble in the city I live in, but I suppose I could look for it in other bookstores I think private instruction might be a good idea A friend of mine takes alot of MA around here and he tells me that I might be able to get some sword lessons from the instructors I suppose the next step would be talking to an instructor to ask about private instruction what to do...
  17. I did that...and I still dont have him I even looked in the players guide but I STILL cant find him maybe im just stupid
  18. I LOVE this game seeing all the MA styles they use is awesome my favorite game mode is chess kombat
  19. any opinions using wearable weights in training? I think they are useful because you can run or throw punches without having to hold weights in your hands personally I have two 2.5 lbs weights for my wrists and two 5 lbs weights for my ankles
  20. Aikido: practical or pointless? (Keeping in mind I, myself have never studied it) Is this style useful for self defense? I hear it takes a long time to learn much when studying this, and when you DO learn it it isnt very useful. I understand there are other arts you can take with Aikido to add to it-would they help any?
  21. What are your opinions on Bushido (Way of the Samurai/Warrior) Does anybody try to follow these values in their everyday life? These are, roughly: Gi - Rectitude Yu - Courage Jin - Benevolence Rei - Respect Makoto - Honesty Meiyo - Honor Chugi - Loyalty
  22. Thanks for all the replies I'm not sure if there was some confusion, but I never meant that I was trying to master an art from a book. I was just wondering if it would be a good way to get some basic information about the style
