  1. if you want to seriously beef up then buy a body building mag. ignoor the bits with pills but go to the work out pages, its a little intimidating at first but once you read it its full of good tips.
  2. i think the baest thing to do is to be into the acting scene to start with. maby go to a stunt school where they teach you how to stage fight. (its very different to MA fighting) then take it from there. (may also be usefull to get an agent)
  3. the idea of martial arts is to concentrate the mind on one subject. it is seen as unifying the body and mind, a form of meditation. learning the weapons, weather traditional or modern should be seen as meerly more of your training. it all deppends on why you started and continue to learn martial arts 1: to learn to fight 2: to have a better understanding of your body and its limitations if you participate for reason 1 then the learning of traditional weapons is pointless but if you participate for reason 2 then the 'mastering' of a weapon will further the knowledge that you have and will still gain **** i do understand that it is impossible to master a weapon, i was meerly using it as an example****
  4. i did the same with the lights, getting glass out of carpet is so annoying! what were your chuck made of?
  5. but as Shorinryu Sensei said, not made for throwing. sorry forgot that bit
  6. throwing a knife you want it to turn, it gives it better range and accuracy. i would have thougt the same is true for a sai. the only reason to not to get it to turn it to look good. its actually easyer to spin them than to have them flying straight. dont worry about sticking them in the right way round. if you practice a little whithin a few days you will be getting it every time
  7. kk, thanks! just wanted to clarify that
  8. taking into account that MA was first designed to focus and clear the mind, making it able to make better informed descisions i cant see why doing MA would be a problem. the only counter to that would be that if someone took up MA with a violent intent.
  9. thank god for england! the brittish aproach is use 'sufficiant force' basicly, if the bloke is gonna try and kill you you can do almost anything to deffend yourself as long as its justified. but if he was going to flick you in the ear then you cant jus turn round and floor him. another great thing is that if you feel threatened for any good reason then that is seen as justification for self defence! the only problem is proving it!
  10. thank god you didnt say "because i wanted a black belt" or something like that. cheers!
  11. Northren Ogre, one final question: If a kid about the same size as you came up to you and said "your mum" what would you do?
  12. im the only one to say finger and thumb locks. i dunno y i just like them
  13. ive done the same thing as you are planning to do. if you go for basic traditional ju jitsu then you are looking at a good parralel to judo jujitsu is the art that judo, aikido, karate and many other of the mainstream arts (exept things related to kung fu) formed out of. you can expect kicking punching, grapling, throws, kicks all sorts of locks, strangles and chokes. some sensei may stray into the self defence and weapons. to get a better idea do some reasearch yourself and look for grading sylabus' and have a look at what they expect.
  14. ravenzoom, can i just ask, why did u start MA?
  15. but what deems it necesarry? also there is a big difference between being a coward (tucking your tail between your legs) and ignooring sum muppet that comes up to u and says "ill bang u"!!! yes this is a combative thread but why cant people give replys for and against? its people like you Northren Ogre who give MA a bad name! the whole idea and origin of martial arts is self restraint and disipline. im realy surprised that your sensei has tought you that! Muaythaiboxer, thanks for saying that. i cant believe peeps just go into MA just to show people how many different ways they can hurt them.
  16. i would do that but im self teaching so i think my mum would get kinda annoyed at the bits of skin and bone lying round the place after a practicing session
  17. We're all lying down on the hard, wooden floor preparing to do crunches. Then our Sensei calls out to one of our green belts "How many should we do?" and he replies "Eight hundred." please god tell me you slapped him!
  18. im just starting out with a pair of foam ones, fair enough to the school of hard nocks but ultimatly i dont want a hole in the back of my head.
  19. going back to a previous post about budo. budo is the way of the warior, and if im not too much mistaken wariors fight. nitefly u shud be ashamed, not only did u rise to them but u also "gave him a good kicking" i cant believe i heard that from sum 1 hu practices MA0
  20. i think that we gotta remembe that jacki chan is an actor, yes his abilities r real but ultimatly he is an actor, and so r the people he is fighting. in a 1:20 fight you only truly fight 1 or 2 people at a time. the whole idea in a multiple attacker fight is to target on person then another but only attacking them one at a time. also manipulate your surroundings, if ther is a wooded ares, direct your attack into it. this will give your attackers more than just you to think about. the uneven ground will be another distraction, buying you more time to place, target and strike your attackers.
  21. you have to remember that the only problem in the street is that the people you throw wont have the training that normal uki's have. when you go to throw them they will just cling on for dear life. After that the only thing you can do to get them off is jump and land on them. believe me, i learnt by experience!
