yes, but is that true respect?
-
sorry, playing devils advocate here.. so if you got an award for saving someones life, when infact you didnt, pleople would respect you for the award, even though you didnt deserve it. is that true respect?
-
but is it true respect if it is based on a falce belief, or is that meerly someone judging you for something you are not? saying that, as long as you have got respect, do you care what it is for?
-
fear doesnt equal respect

First Judo Tourny
honour is life replied to JoeBSU's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
a litle late here but oh well, this os for any one else who is going into a judo tornament. 1: dont think of a throw to win with, if you do, i can garuntee that you wont win with it, if you win at all. 2: stay calm, its always easier to fight relaxed 3:do your best, remember its only your first, dont worry! yer, i think thats all i can think of, just be happy. -
only two things to say here "the hunter with only one bullet waits for a perfect shot" basically if you have someone come up to you with a gun, don’t try and do anything until the time is right (or as right it can be with a mussel in your chest) some people were saying "I would give them everything they wanted but if they seemed intent on killing me then...." why would a person ask for your money then try and kill you for no reason? Wouldn’t it be much simpler to kill you there and then then take what they want.

The Street Fighter Excuse
honour is life replied to WapCaplet's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
very good way of putting it! i like; i like! it deppends on what you want out of martial arts. if you want to be a great street fighter then it is pointless going to a class that teaches only forms. but if you want to progress and be the best you can be in that art then it is equally pointless going to a class that diverses from the art and goes into street fighting. its personal preference. so to the question "are our prioerities wrong" it deppends on what you want to gain. think! -
Do the elements feature in Japanese belief? plan for garden.
honour is life replied to TheDarxide's topic in General Chat
it may cost a little more but how about having a slab of stone engraved with the japanese/chinese symbols for the 4 elements. (can be seen in many places: book of 5 rings) and placed; facing inwards to the center on the pillars? -
Could you beat a street fighter?
honour is life replied to STR33T GUY's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
its been said before, but i'm going to say it again... NEVER UNDERESTIMAT ANYONE! even yourself! a street fighter does have training! he has trained on the streets, if he has been in fights, he will know the general reaction. do your best and hope to wot ever there is out there that it is good enough! me beat a street fighter... depends -
in england as long as you only use the force that the person who is attacking you is useing then you are ok. as for the lethal weapon bit.... *! the fact that a person does MA i think will be taken into account but not held against them. abviously it will be assumed that if a person has studied MA then they will have greater control over themselves and their actions. (not fair really)

my mate is always going on "awww, gus... bruce lee slap that guy" funny for the first time, but after the 29th its just annoying! especially when they pick fights then expect you to end them! (almost happened but mannaged to talk my way out) then gave them one hell of a bo*****ing!

Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?
honour is life replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
no, i understand the need to apply the submission quickly, but to snap on with no intention to allow the person to tap is irresponsible -
i no very little about the subject concerned but arnt the slow movements in tai chi about improving the flow of chi in your body? also arnt the forms in tai chi meerly slowed down vertions of traditional forms? if so, why not just speed them up but include the improved movements and breathing to increase the power of the form? i know that training in forms cant make you a good fighter but i would have thought that it would enable you to defend yourself more effectivley than have nothing at all? also, what is everyones obsessions about being a good street fighter? surely the physical, mental and social benefits are good enough to disregard the fighting aspect completly.

i use kicks to firstly wear down my opponent, secondly to draw him to my next move and thirdly to distract him from the fist that is coming towards him he he

Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?
honour is life replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
personally i think that if people who train for ufc make a statememnt like that then they should be thrown out of the sport. i do believe that if the person having their arm cranked doesnt tap then its ok to break the arm, but to not give the person a chance to tap is just careless and a complete disregard for the ideas of the sport. -
The Street Fighter Excuse
honour is life replied to WapCaplet's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
first of all, brilliant posts! this is by far the best string i have read so far! At this point I think we have to use the immortal ‘sitting on the fence’ argument… people train in martial arts for many different reasons; be it physical, spiritual or social. The reason I started judo (my main sport) was when I was 8 me and my dad went to a car boot sale. There was a display on that we both watched. Previously my dad was a judoka up to green belt. I, being 8 was fascinated and immediately thought, I want to do that! The reasons? It looked good and my dad did it. I think the real thing many people (not all) are overlooking here is the reason that people continue to do their martial art. If a person starts judo because they want to be able to beat someone up they are going to be bitterly disappointed! At this point one of two things could happen: 1: they could leave the club, having learnt nothing, gained nothing and wasted an evening 2: they could continue the art, learn and grow in all aspects of their life. My point being. I do judo now to broaden my understanding of myself (physical and spiritual), learn an art that has been passed down for many years with the hope of continuing to pass it down myself. These are just a few reasons among many. A lucky effect of that is I know how to look after myself in a fight due to the fact that I understand the way my, and others bodies work (and cease to work if certain things are done) That was my experience. Now with other arts which I have not experienced I am sure, from what I have read, that the output will be similar, surely the fact that the cause and effect are reversed is insignificant. A couple of little points Martial arts, despite popular belief did not originate in Japan, rather Africa, where tradesmen needed a form of defending themselves. Then, during trade the Africans went to Japan, where the systems where adopted and adapted. If martial arts foremost reason is fighting, then why katas? Why judo? Why meditation? Why the self restraint taught to every person who studies martial arts??? interesting to see other peoples Opinions on this! -

Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?
honour is life replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i dont think the original idea is to break the bone! if the move (arm lock/arm bar) is carried out fully and propperly then yes, it wil break the arm, but the intention is to get the person to tap out not break the arm! -

really if you are intent on doing this then no one can stop you, but take alot of time to consider the affect this could have on you and others around you, both now and in the future. all that could be said has already been said in the topic. think! -
Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?
honour is life replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i'm really surprised about what people are saying about the fact that a TMA would be floored by a MMA. The way of TMA is more to do with the mind of yourself and the opponent than the fight. the true MA...... well its the one that suits the person. if a person with no arms started boxing, i dont think it would work. would it? (i no boxing isnt a MA, meerly an analogy) so dont start something because it works ofr others, but because you can make it work for you!
