Oh, I definitely admit it was my favorite Batman movie of any of them. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Batman fan....for my fourth or fifth birthday, all I wanted in the world was a Batman toy and I got one hehe. Not that I've read the comics, I just always loved the cartoons on Fox Saturday mornings, and the old TV show. Somehow when doing my critique of Batman Begins, I kind of forgot about all the other bad Batman movies there have been (I mean, George Clooney? c'mon). Christian Bale made a great Bruce Wayne AND a great Batman, which we haven't really seen in a while. Katie Holmes was great, the cinematography was great. It made me pay a lot more attention than most movies do. So in that sense, Batman Begins was great because it was so much better than the old Batman movies. I also loved the way they set it up for sequels. I still like Spiderman, though....I think it's a Tobey Maguire thing...

Okay...yesterday I went crawdad "fishing" in my friend's stream, and that was fun! I'll admit there were a few times when the crawdad jumped at me in the water and I abandoned my too-hardcore-to-be-afraid-of-these-things persona. But hey, I didn't want to get pinched. I caught a little tiny one with a net, the a pretty big one with my bare hands. I think I caught another one with a net after that, and for the rest of the time just uncovered them for my friend, who is the better catcher. The most frustrating part was definitely eating them later...so much work for so little meat!

What would you do with the pen and paper, if I may ask?

Sometimes that can be part of the personal growth and maturity you will gain. Maybe your instructor doesn't like to "baby/spoil" students with lots of praise, and perhaps goes the other route by being a little tougher...demanding perfection and rarely acknowledging it. Although this can be frustrating, if you are patient and keep trying, eventually you can become sort of independent...you don't need someone to tell you you're doing a good job; you self-motivate and are stronger because of it. Failure may not faze you as easily. It also makes the instructor sure you are really dedicated. Although I was brought up more in the "praise-correct-praise" school, the "tougher" method is also perfectly legitimate. If done correctly, either will produce many similar results: dedicated, self-motivated, skilled martial artists.

Let's see....for a living I mooch off of my parents because I'm 18 and headed to college in the fall. Four years from now, hopefully I'll be doing something with my Economics-Spanish double major that will allow my parents to mooch off of me in their golden years.

If "don't kill me" isn't a valid request, I'd probably want to say goodbye to all of my loved ones... family, friends, forum members...

I had a friend/isntructor who is a second degree (maybe higher now, it's been 2 years), she was a security guard at a Target and at a women's shelter. I was thinking about working security at the local mall or something. Not sure if they'd hire a 5'2" 105 pound girl though, even if I have training.

You might want to try going to a hardware store and getting some nice heavy-duty chains and stuff. I've definitely never heard of that problem, but it sounds dangerous. So take care!

I don't go to the movies much, and when I do, I go to matinees....$4.50 is much more appealing than $7.50 (or $8 at the bigger cinema half an hour away). Usually I go to see something like Batman or Star Wars (which I haven't seen yet ), or as something to do with friends. My family and I went to this really run-down theater a few years ago, because they had cheap tickets, new movies, and everybody got a free drink and popcorn with their ticket. We went to see the first Harry Potter, I think. Anyway, our feet were practically glued to the floor after we sat down (ew), and my mom and I stopped by the bathroom, but couldn't use it because all of the toilets were clogged (double ew). That was a bad experience.

I caught a little wimpy fish one time at some picnic thing. I don't remember what it was, but it was like 5 inches long. I'm too restless to sit in a boat for hours to catch a fish or two.

I don't think I liked it as much as my brother did, but I thought it was pretty good. It was all so serious...I think I prefer the Spiderman and X-Men movies in that sense. Plus I was really frustrated that you could never really see the fight scenes...everything was dark and he did it really stealthily. You could just see struggling and anguish. I know that fits in with his ninja training, but I like to see the fighting. My favorite part was probably the car chase, but I'm just kind of picking that. I agree with battousai...nothing really sticks out all that much.

I wore ballet/jazz shoes for a few outdoor demonstrations we did, because our instructor told us to wear shoes, and they were really light. Otherwise, I like to be barefoot...feels more "hands on", if that makes any sense...

Is there anybody else who can't swallow pills?
monkeygirl replied to KarateChick06's topic in General Chat
I couldn't swallow pills for the longest time, and it was purely psychological. Eventually I got embarrassed that I was the only person my age I knew who couldn't swallow pills, and got tired of crying every time someone told me I was being ridiculous. Here's what I did: Put the pill on my tongue, and worked it to the back...didn't tilt the head any irregular way. My goal the entire time was to pretend the pill wasn't even there, that I was just taking a drink of water. I think I may have taken a few "practice" swigs with just water, then downed the pill. Whatever you do, don't tense up...try to stay calm and relaxed, which will help keep your throat a little more open. Let us know if you have any luck! -
Most of the honorary belts I've heard of were posthumous, and usually additional degrees of black. Personally, I would feel weird having an honorary belt in another system...any system for that matter. To me, belts always signified new knowledge and requirements. If I didn't actually know what I was doing, I'd feel really strange.

Read, read read!! Being well-read is such an important life skill. Go to your local library and pick up some classics. "Howard's End" by E.M. Forster is a good one...I'm sure other people (including the librarians) can make good suggestions. Reading quality literature will help keep you thinking over the summer, as well as expand your vocabulary, help your writing skills, give you a great set of books to write essays on (and yes, you will actually want this later)...meanwhile it's fun! Well, if you read the right books anyway. Tons of books like Around the World in 80 Days, the Time Machine, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein...would be fun and adventurous to read, if you're in to that sort of thing.

I'm going to move this to the Strategies and Tactics forum.
