I saw a kick on Buffy where two guys were holing her arms from behind. Suddenly Buffy kicks up like she's doing a v-stretch and kicks both of the guys in the face. I've seen this move in other movies before where on person is holding someone from behind and the person brings their legs up like in a toe-touch and kicks the person in the face. Does anyone know what type of kicks these are?

I've tried to swing wider but because I want to do it for asthetic reasons it doesn't look right and it feels akward because then your whole shoulder is moving.

When using chain weapons and doing figure 8's with them, can anyone tell me how to avoid hitting myself? It seems like as you do figure 8's, the end comes in and backwards so it always hits me? Any help?

Does anyone know a good website that shows the various ways to hold a sai?
-
Because I know that there is a way to throw knives so that they don't spin. Unlike everyone said was impossible. But, yes, I'm very stubborn. As for the throwing, I think that non-spinning throws are more reliable as it takes years to become proficient in knife throwing.

I'm going to have a pair of custom sai made. The problem is that when I throw them I want them to go point first without turning over. I know that there are certian ways to throw knives to do this, but I think that they wouldn't work on sai. How would I have to have the sai weighted so that they don't go end over end when they are thrown?

One movie that has it is the Mummy Returns where the two girls are sai fighting. -
I see this kick in movies all the time. What happens is someone grabs this person from behind the person being grabbed kicks upward in what is practically a split but satnding up and hits the person behind them in the face. My question is- Is this a real type of kick? If so, what is it called and what MA style teaches it. And, lastly, what can I do to train and get the flexibility to do it?
-
What kind of stretches would be best?
-
How do I get that?
-
The jump is what I need to work on really. I don't get it though, I'm pretty flexible otherwise, I mean I have a front kick of 6'2".
-
I'm not very flexible when it comes to spinning kicks. However I need to learn to do a Spinning Roundhouse Kick pretty quickly. The problem with my Spinning Roundhouse Kick is height. I'm 5'7" and I'm having a hard time getting ANY height to it. As I said before I'm not very flexibleso I need to get height. Any advise?

I read somewhere that it was an improvised kusari fundo
-
So there's no way at all to make it go like that? I would love to experiment but I can't work up the nerve. I'm too afraid I'll break my sai.
-
Can anyone here throw a sai so that it just goes stright through the air with no spinning or anything? If so, is there a specific method to doing it?

experienced vs. inexperienced
Assassin_with_sais replied to Assassin_with_sais's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Well, that's another thing. An inexperienced person will use moves that they don't realize how dangerous they are to themselves and people around them and probaly don't care. -
Which do you think is better when it comes to weapons and why? I think that an inexperienced person is more dangerous with a weapon because they can improvise and surprise experienced people to catch them off guard. An experienced person however is predictable in their moves and you know what to expect.

Harley, If you don't know about "kool or flashey things" then you don't really know much about modern sai. Do you honestly think that they they make chrome plated, octagon sai that reflects more light because it makes you fight better? So, is there really a lot of difference between octagon sai and what I want to do?
-
I meant about sharpening sais to be like Elektra's.....but yes, I have heard VERY good things about those sai!
-
Well, the reason that I want to go with the Shuriedo sai was for two things: 1. Shuriedo makes a stainless steal sai that could always be polished again to be shiny, unlike chrome plated ones. 2. I was reading somewhere where these people were talking about the thousands of dollars they they spent to have their swords made Anymore ideas of what I should do if people don't want me to "ruin" a Shuriedo???

Does anyone know of any reliable custom sword makers that they can personally vouch for?
