what to do against a opponet wildly swinging?
Taku-Shimazu replied to Rock-fght's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Because of the length of Tonfa and the protection they offer I think it is entirely possible but i'm not that skilled or fast, but a master, Yes. Definately. -

In the hands of a master even the innanimate of objects can be a deadly weapon. I don't mean to sound overconfident but a baseball bat is no opponent for a pair of Tonfa when i'm using them. -
Tonfa, and Kusari - Gama are my favorites. This is an unusual choice as they are both so different, The Tonfa has a rigid weapon and the Kusari - gama is a free flowing weapon.

But obviously this situation is entirely theorhetical, so don't worry about it. Because if it were to happen i'd be carrying my Tonfa and they wouldn't look twice. -
Where do you guys train? I find training in a forest more efficient. What about you?

What about if you have to win? Like in Once upon a time in China 3 when they are attcked by a rival Martial arts school and they have to win to retain students? or if you are attcked by a local gang and you must strike fear into them or they will come back? -
Tonfa are, in my opinion, the best weapon. Tonfa can, like most weapons, can eliminate someone in one strike but they are also legal, not dangerous to the user and are quite cheap (£10-£100)

Anoather thing that í would like help on is group assilants/Multiple enemies. And i'm not talking about weapons, completly unarmed. Seriously how would you handle that because in Bruce Lee films etc, they all wait their turn but in reality they all come from all sides at once and i can't block eight fists at once. any tips? -

Depends. If you have a weapon (I carry a pair of Tonfa when out training. (which is pretty much all of the time)) One smack of a Tonfa and he'd leave you alone. But if you are unarmed then your best option is to Side kick as his arms would be 'out of the way' and they can't block it. Or Kick his knees head on and hope he falls. Does that help? -
Are you talking about organised or attack fights? organised, I would wait then try to counter their first move to put them off balance (Mind and body) and then try a rapid combo to be quick and efficient. Attacked, I would still wait and then see what they are capable of, any weapons? because you don't wanna Tonfa someone unless they are 'armed' too. I also wait to see if they have a style because most people that attack you (i would guess) would have no style and just swing at you like a thug.

-Shinryu Sensei- When you said "Low risk, in what way" (refering to when i said "Low risk with maximum effect") What i meant was using them as karate enhancers, like for blocking and punching with. I do use them as they are intended with tonfa techniques as with every weapon but they were originally designed for use with karate without adapting karate techniques. But anoather perception of what i meant was, They have low risk to self low legal interest if unused and yet at anytime you could just, with one rotation knock someone dead, if needed (Which would almost never be neccessary) but there if you need it.
-
Ok, about the "Low risk to your opponent" part, what i meant was during sparring like the small knocks you get sometimes. if you were using blades of any kind you could easily gash into your sparring partner. but i do understand why you all thought i didn't know what i was on about.

If you are opening a new Dojo then PLEASE make it a traditional, paper screened dojo. there are not enough of them around. I used to go to one but my Sensei was getting 'old' and had to close the dojo, having no sons/daughters that was the end of the Ikari teachings true story.

I train nearly everyday in the forest and i also find it most effective when training in a waist deep stream in the forest near my house. It helps speed and also mental strength.

Help me choose.

If you like weapons you should try Kendo. Kendo is the traditional Samurai art. -
Are nunchaku Japanese ninja weapons?
Taku-Shimazu replied to Zauriel's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Ninja tryed to master every weapon they came across so that they don't loose a battle, which would mean death. so yes they were Ninja weapons -
