History of the Sai The three pronged, metal truncheon is a unique weapon believed to have been introduced to Okinawa by the Chinese in and around the late 1400's. The sai was employed by the local law enforcement the same way the modern day police use their night stick. There has been some controversy and even some speculation as to the origin of the sai. Some believe it to be a weapon that was created as opposed to a farming or fishing tool, similar to a tool used in China to create holes in the ground for seeds. Some even believe that the sai were at one time a bladed weapon. I was sent this as an e-mail from a MA supplier that I have ordered from, Thought I'd share it with you all.

Are you happy at your current dojo/style.
Taku-Shimazu replied to jedimc's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have no Dojo. I'm currently being taught by my uncle in Ninjitsu, but he is not a qualified teacher and has limited knowledge of the subject and has little teachings left for me, What i'm getting at is what would you suggest I do now, Where do I go from here? Anything cheap to start would help, (Kendo is interesting but costs like £300 for full kit.) -
Did I do the right thing?
Taku-Shimazu replied to GojuRyu Shawn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You did well, this guy was obviously just a thug and he will learn alot from this, or maybe he will just bother someone else? Anyway always hit people that hit you first. -
Rokuman, I get what you mean, I don't even attept backflips because if you slow down a bit and land on your head, you could die! But thanks about the frontflip advise, I also think trmpolines are a bad idea because they mess up your timing and after being on one you think you can get more height than you actually can.

Forest is pointless? you obviously have never trained there, the Chi/Ki in nature is far stronger than the Chi/Ki in the dead wood and bricks that make your Dojo. Tai Chi can draw Chi/Ki from nature into yourself, the practitioner. And as for fantasy, what are you talking about? I think you got that off of a T.V. show, perhaps you need to read some Tai Chi books, maybe that would help.

Does anyone else like to 'train' with Kusari-gama?
Taku-Shimazu replied to Taku-Shimazu's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
No i'm fine with it, I can use it well and have discovered many techniques. but I was just wondering if you knew any moves that you could tell me? As far as injuries go I've only hit myself a couple of times whilst 'learning' a couple of new moves. -
What weapon do you actually carry?
Taku-Shimazu replied to pressureguy's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I carry a number of weapons and when I'm out at night I hope not to be attacked as I would be quite dangerous! I carry: Tonfa A homemade Tetsubishi Sachet of powder 4 slim knives A Ninja hood And a number of weird homemade weapons. I advise you to carry a Tetsubishi with you because they are so much fun to use. I remember last autumn this guy was looking at me like I was a complete idiot as he was walking his dog in the woods where I train, Anyway I was striking this tree, sticking it into the bark shouting Kie as I was doing it. (Probably thought I had anger management issues) -

Taku-Shimazu replied to Taku-Shimazu's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Interesting replies, but do you have any move that you could E-teach me? I also like to use a homemade Tetsubishi, you know the things used to skewer people like on mortal kombat, and also to entangle weapons. Anyone have any other homemade weapons they like to use, maybe have any of you invented any weapons? -
I consider myself as acrobatic as well but I can't do anything, my acrobatic skills involve jumping high and far between objects but, How do you perform a frontflip fast enough to return your body to its original position? I can flip and land on my back with my feet landing first but that about it please inform me.

House Of Flying Daggers
Taku-Shimazu replied to Emei89's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I ordered it from Hong Kong and watched it months ago, its still not out in my cinema. I love that film! The epic end scene is quite... Stunning, in the snow. I like the way that Zhang Ziyi (Spelling?) plays a blind character, her eyes are very convincing as they are always still. I heard from a magazine that she lived with a blind girl for a few weeks to train for the film. -
I agree intirely Ronin Samurai, Kick it, kick it in the face. (I am a cat person, They are the basis of cat style kung fu)

Do you guys have any advise? any moves? -
Hi, I can't seem to get a picture for my profile, which is an imbarisment because I did an AVCE in ICT.

What I do is tie a wooden pole (I use a broom handle) with an attachd Nunchaku type flail, to a tree on a length of rope and punch it, it may sound strange but when you hit it, it will start to swing and then it spins and starts flailing at you like three fists at once. Trust me it works because you don't want to be hit in the face by that twice.

ovine king, Alot of your questions can easily be answered but you would probably find some way to ask more, of course I know Japan is covered in hills? you patronising me doesn't make your argument true. I have a source yes, I have many sources so here take this one: https://www.entertheninja.com I know it may seem like some guys idea of a joke but I have researched it and its all truth, except for one thing, it is: Rin Pyo Toh Sha Kai Chin Retsu Zai Zen, but the site states: Rin Hei Toh Sha Kai Shin Retsu Zai Zen. I hope this will calm you. -
Controlling adrenaline shakes....
Taku-Shimazu replied to zerohour's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In my experience adrenaline is good but when it runs out your fudged. I was in this situation quite a while back where there was a group of thugs who were going round looking for trouble and I happened to meet them on the street and they started to do what thugs do and so I say "I don't want any trouble, just leave me alone" and they started pushing me and so I turned round and tripped the nearest guy over and ran, I massively out ran them but then I lost my rush (Luckily I had got away) and my whole body went kind of numb and I could run or even walk properly,(This was my first Adrenaline rush). Could anyone tell me why this happened and is it just your first time or is that what it is always like? -
I havn't seen the film but I will see it soon, Could you describe the weapon? I've seen a clip with that guy with the samurai sword, looks like a good film.
-
Unarmed maybe not but did you know Tadakatsu Honda (The ansestor of the car companies owner) Was famous for killing a tiger alone. (Although he did have a samurai sword and armour. To the guy who started the post, Why do you have a problem with dogs? they must be the worst armed threat to humans, at least cats use claws and their mouth. When ever a dog comes near me (With no owner) and tries biting at me I just kick it in the face. May sound mean but it has happened before.

There is no winner, I just wanted to know where you guys trained. What you mean is the dojo is more popular.

The way of the Ninja.
Taku-Shimazu replied to Taku-Shimazu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm not saying that all Ninja, by code of conduct had to hate samurai, i'm saying there were alot of Ninja who worked for samurai lords to kill powerful generals who were feared on the battlefield and to steal strategies. (You claim so much but you refer to the valued work of the Ninja as mischief!) But when I said they hated samurai i'm was refering to the clans who didn't work for the Daimyos and often tryed to lure other warlords onto their enemies to keep them away from them, the solitary schools who used to have few Ninja who often lived in forest areas of mountain ranges in poor conditions, who would like to meet samurai so that they could replace their brittle, hand crafted, sword with a fine samurai blade. And... from the samurai point of view I meant the samurai who strictly followed their code of honour who thought that people entering someones house without bowing and taking off your shoes was rude and maybe worth killing for, especially not killing them while they were asleep like Ninja did,(Taking away their honourable death on the battlefield, dying by their lord.) And also, (as I noted earlier) The Samurai would live by the sword and they believed that "A mans soul is his sword" and so the idea that someone would steal your soul would not be good to say the very least, (This is where the 'Oni Ninja' or 'Demon Ninja' come from who wore masks depicting various 'scary faces' to scare the enemy). And as the Ninja we famous for mastering every weapon they came across the samurai feared them for this. So does that clear up any misunderstanding?
