  1. Well i got my first gi as a surprise at christmas and although i was planning on buying a good heavyweight gi from the dojo i feel it's only right to wear the one i was bought for now, it's just a basic light gi. Anyway, i tried it on and the cuffs at the arms and ankles are right at the end, not too long, but not very short either. It's also got the fold marks on the legs and arms blatantly sticking out and it looks quite daft! Should i wash it first and shrink it slightly or should i just leave the length and iron out the creases? Thanks

  3. As i know nothing about other styles please don't think i'm saying they're no good, just looking for more info. And please correct me if i'm wrong! Sensei was telling me all about the impact pads we use in shukokai and how no other styles use these. Years ago he practiced shotokan and showed me all the wide stances and how they would 'march' up and down the dojo punching the air as hard as they could and never actually hit a target like a bag or impact pad. He says he thought his punches were really good but when he was introduced to the impact pads in shukokai and started hitting them he was very surprised how his punches weren't as good as he thought. Like i say i've never practiced anything else and don't have much MA knowledge so i'm not trying to lecture you on how or what you should practice, just looking for opinions of punching thin air and do you really think it is beneficial? Thanks

  5. Cheers for the link KH it definetly helps. I'm still a bit confused what arm you use for the block. I thought you always used the guard hand but your clip shows it the other way but i suppose you can do it both ways.
  6. I've looked at all those videos, but you do it opposite hands from what i've been trying and i was hitting pause/play pause/play pause/play during it to try and get a slow motion look. Thanks for the clip and i'll keep trying!

  10. About this double hip twist. Sensei has showed us it and i do believe it gives more power. But i was reading some posts and came across a site called karatetips.com and i read a bit about the hip twist being ineffective and wondered if you could take a wee look at this link and see what you think! - http://www.karatetips.com/ebooks/killerkata.asp

  12. Neither. I do Shukokai. It's meant to be very similar to Shito-Ryu
  13. Do you mean Shukokai? That's what i do and have been told it is very similar to Shito Ryu but i don't know more than that but i'm sure someone will have more info than me! If you didn't mean Shukokai then please ignore me
  14. Hello all, What a forum, I think this is the biggest one i've seen yet! Anyway, i've just started Shukokai and it's the best thing i've ever done. I've always been fascinated with people who could do MA and i thought i'd give it a go. I wasn't sure how long it'd last but i'm hooked! That's me for life Have a nice day
  15. I've just started doing shukokai and it doesn't seem as popular as other styles of karate. Does anyone else practice shukokai?
