When a bit of the skin is hanging off are you supposed to rip it all off and put a plaster on or put a plaster over the skin? I'm new to these evil blisters and was told this would happen at some point

I see your a purple belt now, you're getting good at this Well it wasn't so bad last night, i started looking at everyone elses gi to see if it was just me but there were a few other guys whose jackets were hanging out too. I don't think it's anything wrong with my gi cos i have noticed it's worse when we have a more demanding session with people grabbing it etc so i'm gonna wait and see if it still happens in an easier class (if there is such a thing!) I also noticed other people had their belts lower than mine which sits above my waist so i tied it a bit lower and it helped a bit. Anyway, i've just realised how trivial this whole thread has been so i think i'll just stop worrying about it and get on with it Thanks to all who replied

Well i'm going tonight and apart from sticking velcro bits on i don't really know what else to try. I tried last time tying the belt tight and the jacket still comes loose so i'll try it a bit looser tonight but make sure the ties on the jacket are proper TIGHT!

That's what we were saying too although the speech was slightly slurred

White belt in Shukokai since Dec 04, should be grading in March though

Well i've just learned my first kata and my sparring basically consists of me flapping my arms and legs about tryin not to get hit and waiting for sensei to shout 'yamae' Kata for me. The good thing is when i forget the moves i just search about the net and find them

I don't know about that kickko Another thought......do you tie your belt above or below the straps on the jacket?
-
When i tie my gi i tie those little straps on the inside to keep the jacket shut and tie my belt tight. But...when i start warm up and stretching etc, the front starts opening up and looks very untidy and i'm constantly fidgeting with it and tightening my belt. Does this happen to anyone else?? It might be because i only have a lightweight suit and it's nothing flashy just a basic gi. Any ideas?

Like most of you i'm not afraid of being dead, it's how it happens and what i'd leave behind. I just wonder how easy it would be to go on when/if i'm an old man and my body doesn't do what my head tells it to anymore, my bits stop working the way they should and i'm on about 20 different tablets a day just to keep going. I am only 23 so i'd be most upset to die young for 1 reason - the effect on my family. If i die, so what? I can handle it. But it's not just about me, is it? Maybe if it was it'd make the whole thing easier, who knows? A good friend of mine recently told me when i couldn't do karate because of work that 'Money is recoverable, time isn't'. Since then, karate has become more important to me than my work. Don't let work take over your life. I'm very philosophical tonight

Not starting sooner as i've always been so impressed with people who could do MA but never thought it possible myself. I'm quite lucky though, my 1st and only dojo is amazing. The instructor has done this for so long and does it for the love of karate, not for the money, and most of the dan grades have been there for years

Does your religion effect your martial arts?
Highler replied to Muaythaiboxer's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't understand what religion has got to do with MA. I'm a practicing catholic and find my religion has absolutely nothing to do with my MA. Can someone explain why it would? I mean, would it affect you if you practiced football, tennis, running, boxing or any other sport or pastime? Excuse my igonorance on this subject -
When you refer to 'Hai' as your kiai does it sound like 'Hi' as in short for hello?

I'm surprised there's anything left for you to learn MJ

I've been looking for the same sort of stuff as you but i also find it very difficult to locate any of the books listed especially the ones by Tommy Morris. I'll keep looking and let you know if i find anything of interest.

Why are MAs done with bare feet??
Highler replied to Highler's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks for info -
I've always wondered why we practice MA with nothing on our feet I could understand no shoes but why bare feet?

This has definitely helped with my perception of karate. As a whitebelt i am always desparate to learn new moves and techniques and can get a bit impatient and frustrated at times. This has made me realise to just take it as it comes and instead of trying to cram as many things into my head as i can, and probably getting them all wrong, i will concentrate on perfecting the basics first. Thanks
