Boxing, I want to figure out how I will prepare for the silver mittens. I want as much input as possible, I'm looking to make a rigorous training routine with everything, running, lifting, sparring, you name it. I know that its not for a long time, but I want to be prepared, I want to win. I figured that if I could see some of your training routines I could mix and match to make it fit me. Just looking for ideas. Thank you all.

How long did it take for your black belt
Oopgrub replied to Topic's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I've been going to my karate school for about 10 months and I'm only a purple belt.... my instructor makes it so we're sick of our techiniques before we can test to move on. -
We used to box a lot in my street and I'd always love fighting the fat guys. They were sooooo slow, I'd hit them ten or so times and they wouldn't have hit me once.

I pay 80 bucks a month for kenpo classes and bjj classes at my school, 4 times a week but when i get to blue belt ill go 5 times a week. Then I pay 30 bucks a month for capoeira with 4 classes a month, soon to be 8

I practice capoeira, my uniform says Grupo Muzenza on it, its regional i believe

Boxing stance, or capoeira ginga dance... either way, lots and lots of movement... bruce lee stressed the importance of constant movement... i listened

i understand waht you are saying. I am in high school too, but i have little man's disease... i now look at it differently, its better to fight and lose than let someone pick on you

My instructor says peace over aggression

it was right before class and i went over to a hanging punching bag, and did a roundhouse kick my head hight. I guess I did it too hard, I fell on my butt right in front of everyone in my class. boy, i was thinking of just laying there and not getting up.

I would have grabbed one of the crow bars my family keeps in our cars and see how he liked it.

what to do against a opponet wildly swinging?
Oopgrub replied to Rock-fght's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We had two pairs of gloves at the place everyone used to hang out in my town. The majority of the times I went down there, someone would challenge me to a boxing match. So we'd toss on these gloves, tap them, and go at it. The match would last until anyone said it was over. I was an orange belt in Kenpo and and orange belt in Jujitsu aswell at this time. From all the training I did at my dojo, I always did well in these fights. In retrospect, I don't think I actualy ever lost. Most the people I fought were not trained at all, so they would start slow, and after I would dodge/strike they would start wildly swinging. I figured out fast enough, that once you get hit while they are swinging liek that, you tend to get hit a lot more after, and the only defense against being pounded is to pound back. Mostly I would just steb backwards a few times until they would slow down, then I would dodge/strike again. People stopped asking me to box them when I broke someone's nose. -
A kid punched me in the eye, so i justclosed my eyes and swung as hard as I could, I hit him right in the nose, he flew backwards and hit his head on a telephone pole, didnt have much fight left in him. then one on the bus a kid jumped on me choking me, i pushed him up and off, punched him and he just got into the fetal position and i had a field day with him

Controlling adrenaline shakes....
Oopgrub replied to zerohour's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i used to get the shakes, there's only one way they can be beat: confidence. today two seniors came up to me and tried to make fun of me. I just came right back at them with insults of my own, I was impressed with myself. All I needed to do was remember my training, there's nothing to be afraid of in a fight, you will live, win or lose, all you will feel is pain. You just need to remember that, you need to know that you are in control of yourself, and whoever is trying to give you trouble is weak, because they must be to be giving crap to you. Just know you're better, and tell them they are wasting your time. Confident, keep confident! -
Karate v Boxing
Oopgrub replied to shukokai2000's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
It all depends on the skill. I have taken out a boxer before, I have also taken out a karateka before. You can't just parry boxer's punches, you need to dodge them, you need especialy to keep your balance. roundhouse kicks will get you destroyed, front kicks and side kicks would work best. A Tae Kwon Do black belt who could kick hard and fast would have the best chance, if you just practice basic karate, you're screwed. Boxer would win, in my opinion. Their punches HURT. -
what would you do?

If they are sitting on top of your stomach area they have a great advantage and its not looking good for you. And if you are in this position while they are pummuling you your best bet is to try to grab for their collar or their neck and pull them into you. If they are in between your legs try to wrap your legs around their stomach/lower back, to keep them in your guard and stop them from moving. those are ways to protect yourself, but your best bet is to either get them off of you, or try to choke them out.
