  1. Have someone small (a child maybe?) sit on your back while you are doing regular pushups. KG
  2. Your belt color changes with the number of your post. The more post you have, the higher your belt. KG
  3. Welcome to KF. You will find a wealth of info here. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. KG
  4. Well, looks like I'm a bit of a scrooge, LOL, I only got 7. Thanks great thread. KG
  5. But, I guess I can live with it. LOL KG
  6. Thanks for the replies. I was hoping yall wouldnt say running, LOL. Ever since the military, I've hated to run, but I was pretty fast. Thanks again. KG
  7. If it was me, I'd attack the knees for two reasons. If its an untrained assailant, then they are probably gonna be watching your upper body more closely than your lower body, so its possible that you could sneak in a devastating and nonlethal shot to the side of the knee. The second reason is that if you take out the knee, it wont be easy for them to follow you when you run, and a shot to the knee hurts ( speaking from experience). Just my 2 cents. KG
  8. What is better for cardio: running or jumprope or both? KG
  9. Great site Str33t Guy, thanks for the info. KG
  10. I think you should continue to walk away, unless they try to jump you. If he jumps you, then react only till you can run away. If you take on one, you might beat him, but whatcha gonna do the next time he sees you and he has 5 of his "boys" with him? What's worse: to be known to run away, or to be dead? Just my 2 cents. KG
  11. Our KB workouts are not that strict, but you have to pay attention. He does drills like punch the bag as fast as you can until he claps then you stop immediatly. If you dont stop, you have to do 10 pushups for every punch after the clap. I really learn alot from the class, without it being like boot camp all over again. But that is the kind of person my instructor is. Hes a great teacher. Good luck with your classes. Let us know how your other classes go. KG
  12. Well, I'm still new to the grappling side of MA, I was in the striking side years ago. I have to say that I enjoy the grappling (both watching and participating) more. But, both the striking and grappling arts have their place. I think you need a balanced menu of both to be all around. My instructor teaches JJ on two days a week, and TKD, MT on the third class of the week. I think that is a well rounded school IMHO. KG
  13. I just try to stay relaxed at all times while rolling. I dont know exactly how I do that, I just do. Hope that helped maybe a little bit. KG
  14. Hello everyone. I am still pretty new to jiu jitsu, and I'm having a hard time trying to remember all the Japanese names for the techniques. Do ya'll know of any websites that has specifically jiu jitsu terminology? Thanks for all the help. KG
  15. Welcome to KF. What is Eugue Ryu? I haven't heard of that one yet. Is is kinda like Shorin Ryu? KG
  16. Welcome to KF.....I did about the same thing....only there was a 15 years break between my training. I was a little rusty LOL. KG
  17. Welcome to KF....pull up a chair. KG

  19. Oh, and by armed, I mean I do carry a firearm (Ruger P-97DC .45cal).
  20. I know this is an old thread, but I jusy wanted to say something. I am a security guard at a local college. We have a people that work with us that thinks they are the Chief of Police for the town. Me, I'm just using this job as a stepping stone till I finish my college. While there are some bad security guards, there are also some really good security guards also. I am armed, I carry pepper spray, handcuffs and an asp, but I dont let all that go to my head when Im working. But it sounds to me like that security guard was talking out of his head, and trying to impress you. Take it with a grain of salt. Just my two cents. KG

  23. Good points SevenStar.
  24. I think Im more into the self defense jiu jitsu. Thanks yall for the replies.
  25. What yall are saying is partly true. The muscle soreness comes from lactic acid buildup in your muscles. Its called DOMS (delayed onset muscular soreness). It comes from your body and muscles reacting to a new stimulus. Lactic acid comes from a chemical breakdown within your muscles. So in effect you want that soreness. As your body becomes more used to your workouts, youll notice you dont get as sore ( of course everybody is diffrent) Some people always get sore, but, I never get sore. Your muscles arent getting bigger as you workout, they get bigger when you rest. It will not hurt to do pushups everyday ( we did them everyday in marine boot camp, and nearly everyday after boot camp). My advice is to keep on doing them (but dont overdo it). Your body will eventually become accustomed to your workouts. just my 2 cents KG
