Son Goku the monkeyking replied to GoshinKaikuRyu's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
i think hughes will win becasuse gracia has not faought in a long time and he will have naturally got rusty, and Hughes has faught more people, more recently so he will also have more recent exprience to gracia, plus his millitech fighting system is more mixture than gracias, families Brazillian Ju-Jutsu. i am rootin 4 hughes all the waY own this one. Martial Arts On Other Planets
Son Goku the monkeyking replied to ArmorOfGod's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
..... ..... ....... ................................ .......... huh... dis is y people dont think MA works PEACE -
Sure he can- the irony is that even though Royce carries the name "Gracie" hes far from being one of the top grapplers in his weight class. Hughes is a much better fighter than is Royce, theres no way to deny that. His standup is better than Royce's, his takedowns are absolutely phenomenal compared to Royce's, and hes also a stronger, faster, more seasoned athlete. However, the old adage in Mixed martial arts is that styles make fights, and in this instance about the only thing that Royce can hold over Hughes' head is his submission abilities. Matt primarily fights a ground and pound game which falls directly into Royce's game. If this is how Hughes fights, than this will be a very good matchup. On the other hand Hughes can take advantage of Royce's one dimensional game and keep it on the feet where his striking will prove to be much better. This wouldnt be a difficult gameplan to employ- the day that Royce Gracie can takedown Matt Hughes is the day hell freezes over. I think this fight is really going to come down to how Hughes decides to fight it, and I think hes going to try to ground and pound Royce, which will give all of us the show that we're all anticipating. but forgot the fact that Royce, may have been out of the game for a while but has given him more time to practice and hone his skills so that he can beet Matt, and he probably has watched enough UFC battles since his days to MAtts time to no what moves Matt does and likes to use, and how to beet matt by studying his techniques, and knowing what moves he likes to throw, and what are his weakness and things he aint good at, and how to exploit them. but like u said this should be a good match.PEACE
-
do u think that Matt hughes is goin to be able to beet gracia who's family Made one of the Jujutsu styles his( hughes) style has incorporated into it, own may 27( i think thats the date) i am a big Matt hughes fan aswell as a Chuck liddle ( Iceman), forest griphan, Luke cumo( even though he lost and did not make it)) and sorta of a Tito Ortiz, and ken shamrock ( except he is evil to his fans) but i dont think hughes can beat the man whos family made Brazzilian jujutsu.

hmm this is somthin i have been wondering, i love watching a good wushu demonstration: especially the the unarmed combat forms. but there is somethin i been wondering, i love the flexibillity, the acrobatics, and the martial art ( though some people rather call it just street performing) but i was wondering could some1 who studies wushu ever defend themselves with it, (meen the flashy kungfu stuff u see like in jackie Chan movies, or jet lee- crouching tiger etc. or like the stuff the wushu team dose) i beleve that the flashy stuff could help someone be able to defend themsevles if that person can use it right i strong point of it i beleive is that in a self-defence situation the person, who u may be up against would not no what do do against someone who studies Wushu giving the wushu person the advantage. i though about one day studying wushu, after i am done with my own training 2.) do u have to also be a sertain body frame to study wushu because i am kinda big: 5'7, 196lbs. PEACE

do any of u think there is a way to revitalize martial arts from all the flasshy but not affective stuff u see on T.V. so it can get respect 2.) what reputation dose martial arts have from whwat u have heard, from other people 3.) i personally belive that UFC and others like have been giving Martial arts kinda of a pick-me up since they do talk about MA though it is mixed MA and not much of a tradiotional look to it, still its better than nothing. i feel that the hole boxing techniques vs. MA techniques could go own forever as it has in previous topics over this forum, ( karate vs. boxing, kung-fu vs. boxing, etc) and it maybe a topic that may always be kinda hot, but needless to say that boxers are good fighter, i still belive that with the right amount of training any body with any style of fighting weather it be traditional styled MA or not can be able to defend themselves well, and if any style of fighting of style of fighting dose not train well enough than they wont be able to defend themselves well. but to each his own and u should train in what style u like or works best for u, and there is is never a sure fire way to no just by ur self-defence style which person would ever come out on top it depends intirely own the people. ( hm... i am groing up) PEACE

Okay, let's examine some things: traditional styles: history, kata, weapons, numerous punches, numerous kicks, bunkai, iron palm / makiwara training, sparring, calesthenics, etc. boxing: six predominant punches, roadwork, calesthenics, shadowboxing, mitts/bags, lots of sparring traditional training has more segments than boxing. even given that the boxer trained 2-3 days a week, he'd still get proficient faster than the traditional guy because his training is more focused and more repetitious. Also, many traditional styles spend more time on forms than they do on application. boxers through their drills are able to do both at the sime time - efficiency. -- true thats why most schools, teach there students forms peace by peace so that they can also show them what the moves are suppose to do aswell, atleast thats what mines does. we also have to no what a moves does/suppose to do, and show how it works when we test for a different rank in order to pass. UseoForce Posted: 13th April 2006 Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This question is addressed in Mastering Jujitsuy by Renzo Gracie. Knowing all the deadly techniques in the world doesn't mean dirt if you can't apply them against a resisting partner or opponent. Boxing techniques might not seem as "deadly" as many Eastern martial art techniques, but they CAN be applied against a resisting person. OMG, read Mastering Jujitsu people! 1.) i never said a boxer was not deadly ( just look at mike tyson ) 2.) but.. um.. i dont study jujitsu it seems like some of u are taking sides over which styles of fighting better. i have heard many people say all the things martial arts dose not do, or things that martial arts dose not do or teach aswell to there students as boxing gyms do. but yet almost all of u ( good 70-80%) are studying a traditional style martial arts youreselfs, or atleast thats what it says by most of ur profiles. but are acting like boxing is better than all of are styles or something. it seems like atleast one person whould want to stick up for there style or something, or say the positive things that there style teaches that u may not be able to learn in any McDojo, local YMCA and/or a random boxing gym. anybody..... Son Goku the monkeyking replied to Mink's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion

PEACE -
Your correct, martial arts can teach all those things, but how many people who train martial arts 1 or 2 times a week can actually do all of this? probably no-one, certainly not anyone who is attending high school(which is what your talking about). On the other hand, a person who trains in boxing for even a short time learns how to hit hard, and stop other people from hitting them. (which is a near essential skill in a self defence situation). Self defence is not like a boxing match. Boxers can end fights with 1 or 2 techniques quiet easily, it just depends on the skill of the person your facing. You also mention fatigue... For a boxer, who generally trains to keep fighting round after round, fatigue would not really be an issue. I guess we can talk about it all we want, and people will have good arguments for both sides. But to answer your original question about why boxing gets so much respect... The best way to find out is to go to a boxing gym and give it a try(which is what i did, and now i train exculsively in boxing), it might be an eye opener. You'll see what real conditioning is all about, and what works and doesnt when it comes down to it. Okay about the part were u said that it would be very hard for someone to learn to use weapons, and break bones etc. because the average MA person only trains few times a week. that may be true to some, but the same can be true to a boxer if that person dose not train much in there gym it would probly have the same affect as to someone who only trains in a MA a dojo only a little. the techniques u know ( including, the weapons and breaking and pressure point etc.) depend own how much u train and practice in the Dojo/ boxing gym, and at home if a person only practice there techniques when they are at the dojo than of course there not going to be very good. the same can be said if a boxer only practices his moves at the gym 1-2 times a week. he probly wont be very good. many things factor in to a persons fighting abillites. it also depends how well the teachers are nomatter how much u train poor teaching will still equal poor self-defence abillites. u cant just make an ussomption ( a-sump-tion-- man, i cant spell 2 save my life) like that without looking at the whole picture first. PEACE
