  1. The creator of the Kata run out of ideas and was several feet from where he ought to finish and added some hops to fill in the gaps!!
  2. I have been using a makiwara for over 30 years. Hasnt effected me negatively thank God.
  3. Depends on the application, could just be a choice that anyone can make
  4. Try plyometric exercises to develop explosive power in your legs
  5. Far too big for that
  6. I only have WinMx & Morpheus. If you either of these, preferably Morpheus, you can d/l direct when they are ready
  7. Do you have a peer to peer file sharing software like WinMx or Morpheus?
  8. Turning a martial art into a sport and adding rules deminishes the art in my view. Contest with rules where there are limitations is never a true test of skill. "Hey I won the national championship" .... But your oponent wasnt allowed to use a groin kick which he could have easily delivered, he saw the opening and had to refrain because of the rules.
  9. Imagine a marathon runner who decided to forget the basics...
  10. Of course you can. You dont have to have any spiritual connotation just like boxing (which is a martial art)
  11. Train in such a way that your grading is just a formality.
  12. Sprint training is far more important to a fighter than steady state running. If you want great detail on this type of training; get the manuals from the eminent boxing coach Ross Emanait at https://www.rossboxing.com Depending on your level of fitness, try this: Warm up Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start As your fitness improves lengthen the distance to 200, then 400, then 600 then ultimately 800 metres. You can also replace the walk with all kinds of exercises like burpees, pushups, V ups, star jumps etc. You can also do Pyramid sequences: Sprint 800 metres Walk back to start Sprint 600 metres Walk back to start Sprint 400 metres Walk back to start Sprint 200 metres Walk back to start Sprint 100 metres Walk back to start Later, you can perform these sequences in up hill sprints. 13. You can never avoid pain completely if you are training hard. Get used to it
  14. Compare that to Ross Emanaits recommendations and how Ross trains... hmmm We have progressed
  15. I have several of Egami's books. Interesting material. I like the true martial art philosophy without contest he promoted
  16. When I do formal Karate technique at home I wear my gi. When I do either weight training, plyometrics, or running, in other words anything apart from Karate technique I usually wear shorts and a T-Shirt and of course running shoes.
  17. It would take me some time to put something together for you. I dont mind helping you at all, however I will warn you that they way I train is very hard. But the results speak for themselves. If I go to the effort of putting something together, will you follow it?
  18. Yes I run daily either in an aerobic or anaerobic fashion. Running is an important part of my training. On one day I will do aerobic running and finish with some light sprints and the next day I will do interval training.. that is, hard out sprints with rest inbetween. I follow a similar training schedule to professional boxers. Of course modified to meet he needs of Karate. I feel these schedules have a lot to offer any fighter.
  19. You dont have to be a black belt to break things. I was into breaking as early as 4th kyu. It just takes conditioning and mental determination
  20. 1. Set up a self training schedule 2. Work on anaerobic fitness 3. Practise all Karate techniques 4. Set Goals 5. Focus on your goals daily. The Warrior Code: I will train with the utmost intensity, dedication and desire I will turn obstacles into opportunities to demonstrate my power and strength No feat is beyond my reach, I will write my own destiny To hell with genetics, I will determine my physical prowess and strength I am an action taker not an action faker I am a leader not a follower There are no magic pills. My strength and power originate from my intensity and devotion There are no shortcuts to the top. The Warrior’s journey is never ending. I will surge forward, improving myself each day. I will rise to the top, overcome all obstacles, and destroy my internal and external enemies. Excuses are weak, Warriors are strong. I am a Warrior!!
  21. What school are you in? What type of training audio file do you want? Karate basics? Kata? Endurance exercises? A mix of them?
  22. Ok I see. Well yesterday I ran 4 miles at 6am in 27 minutes. Followied by 4 200 metre sprints with 50 burpees inbetween. The evening training consisted of 15 minutes warm ups, 45 minutes of basics and one hour of Kata.
  23. I record my own training sessions to follow. They have these components: Warm ups Basics Kata Exercises Cool Downs They vary extensively depending on what day it is. My ones are always two hours long and they would not be much use to people in other schools because the commands are all in Japanese and our school uses some different terminology to other schools, so you would hear a command to do something and not know what you were supposed to be doing. For example If you were asked to perfom: Kihon Keiki Mai San Happo Geri Kara Zuki Itch, Ni, or San Kihon Yon Dosa Would you know what it was?
  24. McDojo's are experts in promoting themselves to "Grand Master". What is a master, and how do you define exactly what are the requirements to be called a master? Aragaki was considerd and called a master at the age of 28. Bruce Lee was considered a Master at age 33. Who is qualified to be one and what are the rules of being one? Many of the old time masters were considered to have that status after training solidly for 15 years. Miyagi is one example. The whole grading system is a crock in my view. I get incensed that grades are given to people based on years between grades. I totally believe it should be based solely on performance alone. For example in our school it takes 4 years from 3rd Dan to 4th Dan. However one may have the 4th Dan skills when they sat for their 3rd dan, but because they havent done the time, they can not sit the grade. Thats rediculous. Totally and utterly rediculous.
  25. I have incorporated alot of his stuff in my rehab and have seen great results . Much quicker results than what you would normally see when it comes to back surgery. This mornings workout 10 MIN walk - warm up 20 knee hugs 20 chinnies 20 V-Ups 20 russian twists 20 divebomber push ups 50 squats Repeat to a total of three times 15 MIN yoga for back - cool down Depnding on how the back holds up will probably do Tai Chi and/or yoga tonight . I know , nothing like what you do but I am working on it . What was your routine like ? Which routine do you mean friend, what I did today?
