  1. tell me more about mui thai (sp?) sounds interesting cause someone else suggested it. also, about street fights. i get my info from my dad who used to street fight all the time an he said that is the worst thing you could do and i would trust him over any martial arts teacher atleast around here
  2. i'm getting ready to get into MA and i was wanting to know what would be a good type for me. i already know how to street fight a little. the main thing i'm looking for is a MA that does more of a realistic fighting type thing. like grappling isn't that good in street fights cause where i'm at, if you go on the ground then your dead cause like 3 more guys will jump on you. stupid cheap fighters. also, i'm wanting more of a fighting MA then a Self Defence MA mainly cause i want to fight, not just stop an attack. thanks for any help you can give me.
  3. i got my info from a guy that put his kid into kenpo karate....then again i don't think they picked a good one. they did no research whatso ever. they just thought "hey, i heard from movies that martial arts make for good diciplin.........ok, were signing you up kids". but anyways, is Tae Kwon DO good for street fighting? for a while i was skeptical cause i saw a video and all it was was 2 people fighting but one would kick over the person head, the other would duck. then he would kick, the other would duck and so on. but then i reliezed that i think it was just a training exercise (honestly, in a real fight your not going to be throwing alot of kicks to the face. they just leave you to open unless you like bruce lee good. but, is that good for street fight? what are some others?
  4. does water also help you loose weight somehow?
  5. i know what your talking about......sounds like me nd you are the same person lol, i'm 15, 5'8" and also 170 lbs. anywyas, when i first started benching the same thing happend and i was like WTF? so i've been reading books and stuff but what really helped was my dad cause he was huge when he was in high school. all it is is thats where your working out most. you have your grip about shoulder length right? thats what happens. you need to do them and then do the same amount with a close grip on the bar. with only like 5 inches bewteen your hands. thats what works the center of your chest. but, you have to do an equal amount or you'll look of scale. and, if you want to see what i mean by working that part out, stick out your arms right to your side and grab onto something and make about a 90 degree bend in your arm., now, push down with that arm,, kinda like you were trying to raise yourself (but don't) now, take your other arm and and feel where your chest attaches to your arm. you should feel a muscle there. i never relized it before until i started benching, now my muscle there is pretty big. hope this helps, and your dads right, your form is most likely right.
  6. i agree with the dude that said to act and not think. one way to help with this is to play DDR.....befroe you flame, hear me out. i'm not like a goth or anything thats pro but i do play it and i'm semi-decent. but sometimes i notice that if i'm paying attention and thinknig about it, i will do good but not the best. then, if i start playing and i just start to think of other things and not really about DDR, all of a sudden the song will be over and i'll have like a AA scaore or something. kinda funny but it does work.
  7. i'm planing on getting into martial arts soon but i'm still looking for the type i want. i'm wanting something that is actually good with street fighting. for example, kenpo karate isn't that good for street fighting because it teaches jujistu and that isn't good for street fighting. i say this because all the moves are grappling moves and you will never use that in a fight. main reason is casue you have to go on the ground and i don't know about where your at but here, alot of guys will jump in if your on the ground. so, what do you think is the best for actual fighting?
  8. basically, i think that if you start the fight, then your in the wrong. if you just fight back after someone starts it, then you ok. no use in feeling bad about beating someone if they started the fight.....what, would you rather of lost?
  9. 5'8" 170 a day- upper body/ running/ bike riding/ the bag b day- lower body/running/bike riding/the bag one day of rest a week
  10. well, luckily i haven't had the need for a real fight. no one messes with me. not saying that like i'm huge or nothing but i guess most people can tell i'm willing to fight. i don't know, but whatever it is, i havn't found the need to yet. with that over, i don't thinkyou did anything wrong....unless you started the fight. as my favorite saying goes "you started the fight, i'm gonna finish it". when i do have to get into a fight (expecting that one pretty soon...lol) i ain't going to stop until he's knocked out or the school cops drag me off. no scence in looking over my shoulder. my dad used to fight all the time. in one of them a guy was on the ground after my dad beat him adn was like "please, no more" so my dad was like "fine, i'm letting you off of this one" and turned around. the dude threw him a nut shot. stunned my dad and had him for a sec.....by the end of it the dudes are was broken and my dad kept wiggiling it around : ) but, after that he didn't show mercy. so, i wouldn't neither. finish it right then and there. or the dude might be like "lucky shot" and start again......he won't do that if you leave him unconsius. and, as a side note, you want a good move that real effective and will give that good look you were talking about doing infront of the girls? if the guy isn't real built but not to fat, once you got him like bent over or something to where you got a spare secound, reach for his stomache. on the side there are ribd that, like i said if he isn't extreamly fat or built, you can grab on to. grab them and pull. blood will come out of there mouths and they won't me able to do a frekin thing. one face shot more and there done. haven't tried it but i know someone that didn't it a few times...works like a charm.
  11. now for my 2 cents : ) i know what you mean with wanting to toughen your knuckles. what you said by "looking cool" i know it can give you some respect. at lunch i was the new guy at the table last year (came in middle of the year and sat with my friend but he was the only one i knew) and they would do sneek shots at each other with quaters (like bloody knuckles) i played and they couldn't make me flinch.....then i brought in the spiked quarter i made, 7 shots and they were done and were like "dude...your frekin awsome" and nobody messed with me he he he. but, if you want something to strengthen the skin, do what i did (although i was told i was crazy) when it snowed, then it sleeted and the pool had like a layer of ice i could punch through....punch through it. the ice cuts your knuckles. hurts like crap after a few swings cause then your hand is also freezing but my knuckles cut all cut and when they healed, hard as rock. plus stuff won't hurt as easy cause your like "wow....punching ice was alot worse" and, if you want to toughen the bone, take a 2x4 and cut it down a little and then hit your knuckles.....don't smash them, just repeatedly hit them with it. do it everyday. while your watching tv, any time. works great. also just punching on the bag will get the tough as long as your don't just stop if you see a blood blister or see them bruised. word to the wise, make sure not to over due it and break your knuckles. doctors say its the hardest bone to heal. 6 months it takes.
  12. hey, i was wondering any exersizes people do to get great balance. like if you just walk along a pipe or something. i would really like to increase my balance cause its not so great. more of just a "i want to thing" then a necesisity but i always thought i would be kinda funny to be able to walk and talk with someone and then just be able to jump up on a fence and keep walking.......just to see their faces : ) but, i'm also planning on doing martial arts and i figured that would help alot
  13. hey, i've been trying to work out and i'm trying to find some good routines for me. the problem is that most people know how to bulk up well but not get solid to good. i'm real interested in taking martial arts so i believe i have enough muscle on me, but i need to get solid. i think that its better than getting big for martial arts cause you get more speed and flexibilty.....i don't think Arnold would be that good for martial art right? so, if anyone has a link, a video or just a routine that basically gets you fit, and solid (best example i can think of is Brad Pitt from Snatch. the Irish gypsy bareknuckle boxing champion). thanks for any help

  15. all right, rock on. thanks. umm, my school does have a weight lifting program but its a class you can take and the years already started. i could go to the schools gym to workout after school but i have mot of the equipment i need hear and plus you have to do their routine their. you can't mix it up to fit your style you have to workout on what they tell you...really sucks so i don't do it
  16. hey, i know that alot of people ask this but i'll go ahead and ask... what martial arts would you suggest for me. I'm 15 (prolly won't start till 16) and i'm right now 5'8". my weight right now is 175 and i'm in ok shape but i'm not starting karate intill i'm in peak condition so i guess that doesn't really matter about my weight now. anyways, i'm looking for a martial arts that fights, not grapples. i don't think tea kwon do would be that could for me cause their mainly feet. i don't mind using feet but i'm mainly a puncher. also, if possible, i would like a Japanese based martial arts but thats only if its posibble. thats the main things i'm looking for. thanks alot
  17. thanks for the help. i think i'll stick with machines though. no offence, i just like them better. o yea, just to let the other guy know, i increased the weight. i now bench 85 50 times.
  18. k, thanks. i'll probably add more weight. i was mainly trying to get cut but i'll see if doing more weight helps
  19. hey, I've been doing my workout for a week now and i was wanting to know about how long do you think it will take till i see some good results? i know it only being a week into it i won't really see anything so i'm not disguraged but i would still like to know about how much longer and if this is a good work out. this is my stats 15 year old male 170 lb. my routine is -100 bench press ( i have the bar set to weight of 55. i do 15 wide grip and then with not stopping 15 close grip. min break. 20 wide grip. min break. 20 close grip. min break. 15 wide. break. 15 close. - 30 mins on the bike -3 sets of 10 reps with each arm for curling ( about 25 pounds. 10 right arm, 10 left arm 10 right 10 left....get it?) -2 sets of 10 reps doing hammer (new exersize i learned. put a hand towle through the holes in you weights and grab it and life up and down like a hammer. the weight is 20 lbs. great forarm workout) -50 bench press (same as above but with 15 wide, 15 close, 10 wide, 10 close) -abs (yesterday i started doing 8 min abs. before that i was just doing regular crunches and the lift crunches for your lower stomache) then to give my chest and arms a rest, the next day i do -30 min on bike -lifts on the bench (lay on bench and use the leg attachment. weight is 40 i believe. 20 front, flip over, 20 back. go until legs tired) -calf rises. 50 - squats. 50 with 40 lbs i think thats it i do this everday a week, switching back and forth. i'm starting t see results on my arms already but not any in my stomache. thanks for any info and for any critiquing (wow...i'm a bad speller...) sorry for so much typing.
  20. nothing against women, i just have a real strong belief against hitting them. and i don't think i'll be able to fight as hard as i can if i'm, fighting a female....its just my personal belief.

    Meditation

hey, what is the proper form for meditating. i heard after working out, on sunday (if thats your break day) you should rest and meditate for 30 mins. i think i know the basics but they said to count from 10-0 then 9-0 then 8-0 ect... is this right? after doing it for *instert number of days* will i be able to do it without counting. also, am i supposed to imagine anything or something. thanks alot, i really would like to get good at this. i know mastering will take along time. i also heard that when yu mediate, if your real good, it hightens your scences. like you'll pick up things you wouldn't normally pick up (guess thats why they never worried about getting attacked back then when they meditated lol) again, thank for all the help
  22. hey, i live in baltimore maryland and i was wanting to know if anyone knew any good karate dojos around here. if possible one that is all guys (or at least gives you the choice of not fighting females) and if possible (but i highly doubt) lets you spar/fight with little to no protective equipment (like a mouth guard and cup). thanks for any help.
