This is only true in one sense. Strickly middle of battle fighting. Yes, blieve it or not, intimidation. This can play a huge factor, if your opponant sees that you have mastered even purly visual aspects of your weapon it may cause some fear in thier abilities. Secondly as a distraction, moving in with one hand, want them to look at the other? give it a spin.. let the light reflect off and catch there eye, just long enough to land the other hand. I agree, these shouldnt be tought to "newbies" however, they could be semi-useful overall.

i blieve the originial use was in sparing, to be force prediction in your partners moves... of corse i could be wrong

i was actuily there for a while... seemed to much of belt factory to me... i was (not just gloating) exceptional compaired to my peers, and i progressed and was treated exactly the same, i bored of it after a year.

I guess no real MA guys want to come here thinking its a farm land, but we do have some pretty large citys... anyways, i live in rather large town called "Lancaster", and well the MA is slim pickings. I, and a few of my friends, REALLY wanted a bushido dojo, which we dont hav e and a Mui thai (sorry if i miss spelled) dojo. Which again we dont have. What should we do? any suggestions? PS feel free to come open a MA dojo here i know several who would join it.

Any other girls like this- or just me?
TeaL replied to elila's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
ya im 16, and i see this everywere... Im gym for example we played soccer, one or two girls were really into it and kicked some boy *, the rest stood in a circle and giggled. just the way they were raised, id say tought it out till somone else joins, or find a new dojo. Its a waste of time to fight giggling teenagers haha maybe you have an agressive female friend that you could get to join? -
Every dojo is diffrent, and it just depends what you want out of it. most places "break tiles" and things during belt tests, at lest mine did.

Its common mistake to think strength is endurance, it sounds to me like a cardio issue... Try just jogging a few miles, nothing hard, only like a step above a walk. Get your heart rate up and keep it up.
-
nothing unusual, just work through it. Your body probibly isnt used to having your heart rate up so high for a long period. I started wrestling this week, and i was DEAD after the first practice, i literaly couldnt pickup a soda.. now only a few days later i find after the whole practice im still ready to go, and not breathing heavy... just give it time, high heart rates are tough on your body, maybe so some jogging it shold help

What is that supposed to mean? Im not familiar with it, but heres my reasoning: Buddah has been dead for a long time. If you see buddah, its a fake, posing to be him. ? just a shot in the dark

Choking someone out
TeaL replied to PhilM1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Blood chokes cause no harm, if not held for longer then say a minute. 2 minutes of no oxygen is the average time for a kill, anthything past say 45-60 seconds can cause brain damage. a quick 6 second showing, is completly ineffective to damage any part of the brain, even when repeated. Your brain gets less oxygen when you hold your breath for a minute then a choke hold for 6 seconds. -
By skinny, i ment not fat.

10 pound set? (5 on eatch) i lbiev eyou mean, because they almsot dont make 20 pound set ankles, i ware them too try back wieght too, i maintain about 25 for the last few years, i wanna increase it to 65 or so.

hahahah, we all take the 12oz can curl occasionaly of corse its optional, just wondering if anyone is up to my level of fitness freak hahaha

Ive been studying up, and practicing some choke holds.. From what ive learned, air chokes seem foolish, and dangerous. A well placed blood choke can take somone out in 4-6 seconds without any negative effects. However, i cant seem to successfuly pull off a blood choke, dizzyness seems to come, but even after holding for 30+ seconds there is no blackouts maybe im doing this wrong, could somone explain to me how this shold be done? I mainly ask because a blood choke can be VERY dangerous if improperly executed. Im a posting fiend today....

That explination is way over used. Age, yes slows down your matabolisum, but that is a small obsticle. As for genetics, thats almost total *, its true some genes make you more likly to be large, and maybe adapt fat cells easyer, but the only thing keeping you fat, is your intake being larger then your output. EVERYONE can be skinny with enough training. Sorry im kinda steamed, just tierd of kids in my HS, complaining there fat, but have tryed everything next to workingout and eatting right :/

Not talking about technique, but what do you do out of the ordinary to train your muscles? its odd but i ware on average 35 pounds of extra wieght around... i have noticed a HUGE impact of my leg muscles, being only 5'6, i can successfuly vert jump up to a regulation sized basketball net. And my sprinting/kicks are very strong. Anyone else do anything kinda wierd for the sake of strength?

For PSI ... pounds per square inch ... you need to know the number of pounds. Pounds is a measure of FORCE. Speed itself does not tell us about force. Newton's Second Law of Motion tells us Force is equal to mass times acceleration. Acceleration is a _Change_ in speed. Something can quite happily continue at a steady speed with no acceleration, and therefore no force, occurring. what i was saying is a simple example, i wasnt calculating obeject deseitys, or gravity or any resistance for that matter, but i think your a bit confused, by your definition, an object that accelorated to 100 MPH will hit harder then an ojbect traveling 100 MPH..ALSO psi = pressure per square inch... I was also trying to use a real example, for his sake, he asked how hard he would hit, i figured he wanted to know like how much force was being applyed, to a cerint area to cause damage... thats why i added in SA

Drunken Boxing, any advice?
TeaL replied to ddpc's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
drinking would make it less effective... the reason its called drunken boxing is because of the whimsical movements, that resemble that of a drunk, not because they are intoxicated. Silly jackie chan movies. -
I say join a mauy thai gym, get your * kicked a bit, then relise there is no glory in fighting.

Differences in Basic Fighting Stance
TeaL replied to Mischievousjoe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i like a mix... between a TKD, and boxing... angled so our about parallel with your opponiant, maybe 20-30 degrees off, right arm tucked down more, with my left arm about perpindicular with the ground, (again, this is just a desciption, its much more fluid when i do it). I liek it because it allows for kick defense easly, without giving an open head/torso. I like to use my above average reaction times to my advantage, using at times far blocks. I dont bleive this stance is best, or even good for other people.. its just my adaptation... with my arms up im free to block "haymakers" and top foot kicks.. im not sure how this would effect in a spar, but its very nice for a street fight/messing around -
ahh the good old IWIHAPOCCRNMOWFFAS , its a good one.
