  1. I use my fore-arm or elbow to block chest strikes. My arm is to the side of the striking arm to redirect it to the side of me. You should try it. Oh, my elbow is pointed down when i do this and my palm is facing slightly toward me. I am using the blade of my forearm to strike the other arm away, while at the same time pivoting my hips so that I can blast back a good counter punch.
  2. That's true.. a gun is pointed at me and I give up and hope that I won't get killed. If it's apparent that the person wants to shoot me, then I'll try some disarm. My point is that I"m training in the use of firearms and marksmanship. It's fun, but I don't really want to carry a fire-arm around.
  3. Oh, I know this. But there is a certain precision and care taken into submitting a person versus just breaking. Submission give you a choice of breaking or not, and sometimes take more effort to get. Many Silat moves have to break a person if it's done in a proper fashion. Of course there are submissions and holds in Silat, it's just not as emphasized as much as wounding and killing opponents.
  4. You'd have to find the board they are posting on, if any. Really........ what's it matter? Anyway, there is another forum that many fighters post on.
  5. Cool. I feel the same way about firearms, Sub. I am learning all I can about them, but probably won't ever really want to carry a concealed weapon. Especially since I travel alot and airports don't like em.
  6. Ok.. I would have to say Silat then. They deal with all aspects of fighting, ground, kicking, punching, locks, chokes, neck breaks and more. Many of the tech's in Silat aren't nice to the opponents, as they would rather break and kill an opponent than deal with submission or holds. And that's just wthout weapons, there is alot more that they do with weapons. Kali is another great system and is very similar to Sila.
  7. It's probably easy to guess what my favorite kick it, eh? Anyway, the most impressive kick i've seen used was by Alex Gong in a Muay Thai bout. He threw his Thai style round kick under his opponents shield (shin block) and crashed it into the supporting leg. The opponent didn't fall, but his leg moved back about a foot. The fight was a TKO because the opponent did not want to continue after that shot.
  8. Yea.. the issue of self-defense is subjective to every culture. It's too bad.. My philosophy is that if a person is commiting a crime upon another person (mugging, assault, rape), then that person is forfeiting their rights and life. If a person tries to hurt me in any way, or take my property illegally, I should be allowed to kill them. But, alas, many people don't agree with this. Too many bleeding heart liberals in the USA. Oh well, it's not something I can change.
  9. Just like I said.. it's about having fun, in other words entertainment. I myself think it's funny to watch forms competitions, but that's just my opinion. Why do they have to yell so loud? I guess volume of "KIAHH" is one of the judgement criteria.
  10. Well, no. I think if a person is picking a fight with me (cuz I never would start one), then they don't need to know what weapons I have. If I have a knife or gun, I might show him so that he may run. If I tell him I know martial arts and I'm a black belt... then he'll probably attack right away. The meaning of black belt means almost nothing in the USA, so telling a person you are a black belt will do little to intimidate them. Of course, there are exceptions. But all in all, I'd just give them a warning that I don't want to fight because someone will get hurt. If they attack me anyway, then I'm sending them to the hospital. Oh.. In AZ there is not law governing "black belt" status. A person is only considered a deadly weapon if they use deadly force.. For instance, pummeling a guy even after you've KO'd him.
  11. I used to take supplements all the time, spent lots of money on them. Then I got a bodybuilding coach and he got me off of them. The only "supplement" i used was protein powder for the times that I couldn't cook. I'd eat 6 times a day and I would eat real food as much as possible. I'd average about 8 oz of protein in each meal, pretty decent amount of carbs early in the day and none towards the end. It really worked. I don't recommend any supplement except maybe a protien powder and creatine if you are vegitarian.
  12. Hehhe.. just don't take a "black belt" if you don't want to register. I wonder what the law is concerning martial arts that don't use a belt system?
  13. - all kind of bodybuilding - all sort of american-gym-karate - harshness of formal japanese karate Bodybuilding is great. I love it! I can't understand why you don't like it, but I can guess that you are the type of person that can't get big.. or you are a powerlifter and have a big gut. You don't like american gyms.. I don't like 80% of the martial arts training in the world. I can somewhat agree with that, but there are many American martial arts programs that kick butt, particularly in MMA/UFC type of events. Another reason I can guess that you don't like American gyms is because you are French.. I have been to France and know how many French people feel about America and Americans. It's truly sad the the USA saved France from Germany, the French imitate USA fashion and lifestyle and yet the French think that they are better than us. Oh well.. let the French think what they want. I have to agree with you on the last opinion. I feel most Japanese and Korean arts are too choppy and lack fluidity of motion. It is probably the military type of attitude that keeps it this way. KIAHH!!
  14. Many kickboxers also train in grappling and compete in shootfighting or other MMA type of events. You never know what a person is trained in just by watching comptetive events.
  15. Yes.. send those (nude) pictures!! I want to see.. Oh did I type nude? Oopps... silly me.
  16. Several black belts in several systems. Can you give a more detailed description of these. Also, let us know who your instructors are/were. You might find something in common with others in here.
  17. You can use Kama pretty much just like swords or sticks. If you really want to get crazy, use Kama that is on a chain, I think it's called Manriki-Kama, now that is getting crazy with it, but I saw it done at a japanese wedding. There are lots of "moves" that you can do, and make up with weapons, but you should get proper instruction. As for a high class weapon.. hmm.. That's a very subjective question. It wasn't developed as a weapon, but as a farmer's tool, so many would consider it a peasants weapon. What's it matter if it's high class or not, what matters is if you can use it effectively.
  18. While shootfighting is awesome to know, it is not just one martial art. Shootfighting is constantly cross-training in several martial arts and evolving. Shootfighters are tough dudes. One thing about shootfighting is the lack of weapon training. But, that doesn't mean a shootfighter doesn't have training in weapons. Eric Paulsen is a big JKD, shootfighting champion of Japan for 5 years undefeated. He is also an expert in the use of weapons from his Kali and Silat training. Eric is also very proficient at several other martial arts besides those that I know of. Anyway, this goes to show that it is a person's "own personal style" that is the best for that person.
  19. You are correct. The person who can successfully take the knowledge of his "art" or "arts" and modify it to his own "style" will find that he is much better than a person that merely mimics another person. So the best "Style" is one that you have to create yourself.. This is the philosophy of Bruce Lee and JKD. It takes a very good amount of reasoning, skepticism and creativity to accomplish this. Mature and critical persons can accomplish such things in martial arts.
  20. Some places in the USA allow the use of the elbows in Muay Thai. It's very rare though, as we are restricted by state laws and such. Why can't they just leave us alone and let us beat the crap outta each other? Oh well, I guess people will always abhor "violent" sports and seek to restrict the rules.
  21. I think I've heard of the Ultimate Fighting System.. I'm not sure though. Anyway. do answer the question.. The deadliest martial art is...... Hmm. I'm hungry. I think I'm gonna go get something to eat. Later guys.
  22. Oh.. lol. I didn't see that pseudo-threat of his. Oh well. There is a fine line between having fun and being funny.. let's try to just have fun and not attack each other on the forum.
  23. Well, where are you at, Pang? Maybe someone here can help you out.
  24. Yep, they are a small sickle.. It is commonly used as a gardening tool in Japan. My mom is very proficient with the use of Kama. She can weed out her garden like no-body's business.
  25. I don't like running for distance. It's very boring and if I could fall asleep while doing it, i would. Oh.. Kickchick.. if you double up on exercises that your students complain about..... I hate kissing you Oh please.. please make me double up on that exercize. I really do hate it.
