I'm looking for a traditional art that takes a long time to learn and master. The ki elements in the Chinese arts concerns me, and TKD seems short. (I hear about people getting black belts in one year.) Of all the different karate styles, which is the most complex and longest to get good at or master? Also, being a Christian, I haven't realy made up my mind on how I feel about bows. Would it be okay not to? I'm not saying I won't; I'm just saying I don't know. Thanks guys.

any mma match video online?

That sherdog site is pretty cool. I like the Silva highlight real they have I was enjoying browsing the forum too untill the first stupid *view our advertisment while we load the page* page. Of course it didn't even work properly, and I'm not about to allow a site like that to set a cookie. Can't complain over what is free; I suppose. -
I'm curious. Are there any other computer geeks in here? ESR mentiond that programmers tend to be attracted to martial arts, so I wonder if the reverse is true. I personally love to program, play with Linux, and learn about hardware and networking.

I watch them when I'm bored. Funny stuff.

Gone in 60 seconds - screw the reviews; it was badass. Shawshank Redemption, - plain awesome Remember the Titans, - I love football, and this movie rocked. Forrest Gump, - Didn't make me cry! I swear! IT DIDN'T! *sniff* Rocky, - Must've been the sloppiest boxer ever, but you have to love em anyway. Operation Takedown - fiction based on Kevin Mitnick. Had to pirate it since it never got released. >.< Revolution OS - documentary about Linux and Linux pwnz.

Heheh, piracy. Never! I used to use DC back in the day. Use bit torrent most of the time now. Forgot all about that. Thanks. -
If you're curious what brought it up, I got stuck in a situation like that last year. I think the guy was a bit unstable because we got in a verbal argument and the next minute he was red in the face and swinging at me. His wild throws were easy enough to knock away, but all I realy did back was throw jabs, having no desire to fight. The problem is that it ended up lasting a long time because of that. Eventually, even a couple sloppy punches landed, and though it didn't, it could've done some damage. I want to make sure that if I get in a similar situation, I can end it sooner. Walking away is a bit difficult to do when you have an angry guy that's going to follow right after you. =P

You know how in little scuffles people get into, there is always someone who leans forward and starts wildly swinging there arms horizontally in the general direction of their enemy? I was thinking. Would not running strait toward them, putting them in a thai clinch, and sending a few knees to their face not quickly end the fight? Are there any better tactics for it? By better I meen faster. Both in time and number of necesary strikes. The shorter the fight the less time for you to get hurt, eh?

Thanks for all the advice. I won't go for my 1rm anymore. I only wonderd since it made the main part of my workout seem easier, but it's certainly not worth it if it isn't safe. A note about the shoulder. It's nowhere near /pain./ Just a bit sore the next morning. (i.e. I can effortlessly move my arm around to it's full reach without the soreness going up any.) My chest doesn't realy get sore at all, but I stretch it a lot. I do pushups too. Thanks again for all the advice! Exponential

Is there a place where I can download video of some full mma fights? Not just various clips pieced together. I've watched my Pride28 dvd 5 times, and I need some more matches to watch. ^.^ This stuff rocks.

I'm just curious what you guys think of the pros and cons of bjj and wrestling. Where do you think each have their strong points? Where do you think each have their week ones? What situations do you think one would have the advantage over. Please don't turn this into a which is best thing. Those only result in flame wars. I did a quick search and didn't see any other posts with the same topic. If I missed one, I apologise.

I've noticed that the day after doing benchpresses that the front part of my armpit that connects it to my chest seems to be more sore then my chest itself. Does that meen I'm doing it wrong? I've made sure to have my dad check my form. My form is okay. I tried finding how much I could lift for one repetition. I was able to work myself up to 160lbs. Not bad considering I just started, and I'm about 5'8, 170lbs. I then went ahead and started my regular workout. (5 sets of 7 reps, 120lbs.) and found it much easier then normal. Would going through the routine of getting myself up to max wieght (took about 8 reps total) a good thign to do before starting my regular workout? Finnaly, is it okay to do your light and fast sets and then your heavy ones in the same workout if it doesn't take over 40 minutes or so? Thanks

I used to get in quite a few fights in middle school. (In highschool now) The oddest one I was in was against a guy that punched like a little girl, but could push me like 10 feet away. Looking back, I should've just grabbed the guy's hands and headbutted him a few times in the nose. The one I probably did the best on was with a friend, oddly enough. I was in a realy bad mood, he slapped me, so I pulled him across the table and punched him in the jaw. Swelled up pretty badly, and got us both a nice suspension. XD I rarely get in fights anymore. I'm not sure why. I never started any back then, so it's not like I've just chilled out or something. My social skills have probably improved.

Woa, you can work out your necK? Never knew that. Pretty cool. I have a very thick neck though. I doubt it needs much work. XD

bodywieght exercises then stretch or vice versa?
Exponential replied to Exponential's topic in Health and Fitness
Thanks guys. Also, is it okay to stretch after running? I think I heard somewhere it isn't. -
Thanks for the replies. If I'm goofing off or showing off with friend's, I'll usually hit it about full force, tho. (Hey, you have to show off when male friends are around. =P) I guess it's what was said about building up a tolerance, tho I can't realy remember it ever hurting. :/ Later.

Thanks again for the replies. As I said, I've been talking to the main instructor their a bit via email. He's answerd all my questions and been quite helpful. This Thanksgiving break, I finnaly get to go up there and check it out Reading a bit more, I saw some realy neat things. Royce Gracie occasionally goes there. That's pretty tight.

cardio for 30 minutes - how on earth ...
Exponential replied to Exponential's topic in Health and Fitness
Thanks for the replies! It's usually more a matter of general windedness then pain that gets me to stop. (Drinking some water or just clenching them realy hard helps remove the rib pain.) I like the idea about running away from home. Thanks. I suppose when I get too tired to run anymore, I can just walk for a while like suggested, too.
