Go there and talk with one of the instructors, ask any questions you feel need answered...don't be shy.A good instructor sees this in a positive way and helps.Chances are at your age and your training level this school will be great for you.I think you'll not only find a great deal of expertise there, but also a cool feeling of comradery.Looks like a good school, have fun and train hard.Seriously bro,it looks like you found a gem,go check it out. MMA is the way to go if you to want a learn a well rounded game.Don't worry about traditional....it's for some....but,not for you....imo Oh yeah...check out Pride Fighting Championships.Better fighters than the UFC.

Well Sami is doing well, they removed the bullet from his shoulder and put what he calls a "butter knife" in his arm.The bullet shattered his humerus bone,it originally went in his arm. They were shot with a 22 cal. and those bullets tend to bounce around. The bullet that hit him in the back went in on the left side of his spine then did a u turn and got lodged on the right side of his spine,it's there for good. The other bullet didn't hit bone and made a clean exit through his right forearm, and he got 37 staples in his head from the downward strikes of the butt of the pistol grip.He seems to be handling it well so far.We haven't had a chance to talk with him about Derek due to the fact that he's been heavily drugged up,but they were VERY close and he watched the whole thing go down. The doctors have told us not to bring it up yet,and if he does to not go into much detail.Redirecting the topic to an "atleast your okay"type of thing. The guy who did this had only been outta prison for 7 monthes. He had just served a ten year sentence for a previous murder. He's only 5'3 and weighs a 130lbs.You'd think that at that size his previous stay in prison would've been horrible and that he would NEVER want to go back. The guy wasn't even close to getting off parole. He was 15 when he commited the first murder and 27 when he did this.I don't get it!!!!Why would you not want to change your life when a second chance was givin'?I just don't get it.They had his(the killers)mom on the news today. She was crying and plending with the camera to not hurt her baby. She said it couldn't possibly have been her son who did this?????Maybe if this worthless trash mom would have raised her son better my friend would still be alive, and Sami wouldn't be in hospital.

I live in a city called Lexington,it's in Central Kentucky. If you drive for forty-five minutes in any direction and you'll end up in some crazy hickvilles. There's tons of weird phrases out there, one I heard the other day was "ain't never heard the beat of that".It means I don't know what your talking about.I had never heard of that one before.

Lately I've been trying to put on lean muscle mass.I do all the regular stuff, lift weights, cardio, eating right, training, and taking supplements(whey protein and paradecca).I went out and bought some new ankle weights, and a weighted vest.I wear these while I work.My question is,how long is too long?I've been wearing the vest for about six hours, and the ankle weights for the entire shift(8 hrs).Is this too much?I've heard of people have having knee problems because of this, but I haven't experienced any. thanks in advance

Thanks for the support guys,I'm about to go down to UK hospital and see Sami before he goes into surgery. They're gonna try to remove one of the bullets from the back of his shoulder. The doctor said that one of the bullets will be in his back for the rest of his life. It's lodged in the lower lumbar region. Man,reporters are some scumbags! We went down to the music shop to drop some flowers off at the door step this morning. These reporters were like "are you friends or family" I said "yes friends" they asked if any of us would do an interview. We politely told them we didn't want to,they asked if they could film,I said please don't.When we got to the door step we saw a bloody hand print smeared down the white door(Sami stumbled outside before the cops and paramedics got there). This hit us hard, the girls started sobbing heavily.I looked over and the reporters were filming us,one of the girls who was very tore up started to walk away. They followed her with the camera. We told them to stop filming and they tried to interview us again????Well I gotta go...thanks again for your support and advice.

A good friend of mine has been murdered at the hands of a thug..His name was Derek,he was a peaceful caring person. He was working at a music shop when a thug walked in,demanding cash.Derek turned to the owner not knowing what to do.He was shot in the back of the head twice.Sami(the owner)was shot three times and pistol whipped on his head repeatedly,he's gonna make it tho.I'm really broke up about this right now...I'm not sure what to do.Derek was such a good person...I can't believe he's gone,he was only 22.They caught the punk who murdered him already,he just got outta prison for....murder.He was under 18 when he committed the first act, killing a cab driver over 15 bucks. In this ordeal he got less than $80,that's two life's for 95 dollars!

There's a good ninjutsu school in my city. Two of my friend's train there.I go watch their classes every once in a while. It looks like MMA with weapons(they have been practicing with the three foot chain alot lately). Both of them can handle themselves very well.I've never seem either one of them get into a real fight, but I'd feel sorry for the guy if there was anything three foot long and bendable around. I have great respect for the real ninjutsu dojo's,I would like to train with them someday.

I drive a 2003 SRT-4,and a Suzuki RF900F.The SRT has a Mopar stage two turbo upgarde, and other little mods.It was dynoed at 270.My bike has an aftermarket exhaust,I'm not sure what kinda hp but it's freakin' scary!I've got up to 160 mph on the interstate and it still had more power to give.I just got this bike and I'm not sure if I should've went this big.A 600,or 750cc probably would have been just fine.My friend who got me into bikes, has did 0-60-0 mph in six seconds on this bike. That's when he owned it,I bought it off him.

Backyard Boxing a Martial Art?
cvkid replied to Kicks's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
No Backyard boxing is NOT a Martial Art,and that was some pretty poor backyard boxing. They weren't even trained, just some people with gloves, head gear, and camera. -
That 210 pound guy was Keith Hackney,he beat the hell outta that fat dude. He's also the same guy who punched Joe Son in the nuts....but it was more like eight times.

I found it odd that so many people recommended the earlier events.I think the new stuff is so much more entertaining. The fighters are matched up better and each opponent is very well rounded.

Cro Cop has got the best powerful/accurate high kicks that I've ever seen,he sets it up so beautifully.I hope he keeps working on his ground game so he can achieve his full potential in Pride. He could be the champ someday. As you can see I'm a big fan of Cro Cop,he's a very entertaining fighter and will retire a great record someday.

Old school traditional fighters vs today's MMA top guns

Randy Couture is a bad mofo! But I'd take the new Cro Cop against him.Cro Cop's takedown defense has always been surperb, but now's he's working on the ground.Of course CC wouldn't want it to go to the ground. But,there's no fighter in the UFC with CC's kicking power. If it lands...it's over.It would be a great fight. Talkative karate friends vs learning karate!
cvkid replied to angelica d's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
As her friend you are the closest person in the dojo to this person,I think it's kinda your responsibility as a friend to address this.Just be yielding in the beginning,it could be taken the wrong way.If this doesn't work, then I'd talk with a higher rank, but not the instructor. It should be taken care of at this point. -
If you have the time do both, those two styles would blend together nicely. If it becomes a problem...drop one,but I think you'll like both and value each as it's own. BJJ is very fun to train in,always rolling.

Yeah, and reading old notes can be so nostalgic.

If I wasn't happy with the instructor I don't think I'd stay around for long.I begin my search, pay up any dues and be gone.

Old school traditional fighters vs today's MMA top guns

I'll put Fedor Emelianenko up against Masutatsu Oyama, and Rogerio "Minotaur" Nogueira against Ken Shamrock. Anybody got a match up for Morihei Ueshiba, that man did real Aikido.Real aikido is powerful, you really have to have a hard style before you can go internal,it doesn't have to be practiced so soft. His dojo was once called "the dojo of hell".Morihei Ueshiba is referred to by the practitioners of Aikido as O Sensei, "The Great Teacher". -
