http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=2233 Here is the text for the article: ================ The Ultimate Fighter Premieres January 17 on Spike TV Tuesday, December 07, 2004 LAS VEGAS – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® and Spike TV® have assembled 16 athletes from across North America to determine who has what it takes to earn a UFC contract in The Ultimate Fighter™, a new and exciting reality-based television series. The original series, hosted by top recording artist and model Willa Ford, premieres on Monday, Jan. 17 at 11 p.m. (check local listings) following WWE Monday Night Raw and runs for 15 exciting episodes, including a LIVE event. Craig Piligian (co-executive producer of Survivor I, II and III) serves as co-executive producer. New episodes premiere Mondays with encore presentations on Fridays (midnight-1 a.m. EST/PST), on Saturdays (7 p.m. EST/PST) and on Sundays (5 p.m. EST/PST). Competitors in The Ultimate Fighter are not voted off the island, fired by a CEO, or eliminated in a rosy ceremony. Instead, the ones sent home are those who lose in the Octagon® or are sent packing by their coach. “Sixty-year-old Sylvester Stallone may be looking for a contender, but the UFC is looking for a champion,” boasts Dana White, UFC President. “The Ultimate Fighter goes behind the scenes to see what it takes when 16 hard-core guys from around the country live, train, and fight together – all with one ultimate goal.” Viewers will be able to follow the 16 fighters as they train, workout and live together. At the end of each week, one fighter from each of the two teams must fight in the Octagon® until only two remain in each of the two weight divisions. In the end, The Ultimate Fighter will be decided by a competition match -- a head-to-head fight inside the Octagon – LIVE on Spike TV. The competitors are all accomplished athletes, disciplined in the sport of mixed martial arts which combines boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu. For seven weeks during taping, the competitors were under the strict supervision of two of the most successful and well-known UFC fighters and trainers: UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and UFC Light Heavyweight #1 Contender Chuck Liddell. In each episode, the competitors also will compete in team “Challenges” designed to push the fighters to the edge of their physical and mental capabilities. The challenges revolve around old-school training techniques, physical stamina and mental strategy. The team that wins the challenge controls which combatants must fight and face elimination. The Ultimate Fighter was taped in Las Vegas at the UFC Training Center™ under the supervision of Piligian, the show’s creator and co-executive producer. Piligian, from Pilgrim Films and Television, also is known for his work on American Chopper, American Hot Rod and American Casino. Robert Riesenberg (executive producer of NBC's The Restaurant) of Full Circle Entertainment also serves as co-executive producer. Riesenberg is president and CEO of Full Circle Entertainment, a New York Company. Full Circle Entertainment is an independent production company specializing in developing and producing programming that services the marketing needs of advertisers. Full Circle Entertainment is a wholly owned unit Omnicom Media Group, which is part of the Omnicom Group.

http://www.backyardmartialarts.org The org is for martial artists who train or teach mainly in non-commercial sites such as parks, backyards, and garages. For now, the site just consists of the Yahoo! message board with its related features such as photo album, chat, message lists, and member lists, but I am working on its home site now, which will be up relatively soon. The only thing anyone needs to join is a free Yahoo! ID. pressureguy

I was thinking about the differences between ma schools today and the ones 10, 20, and 30 years ago and one large difference is that most schools have websites. Obviously not all schools have them, but even if they don't, the teacher still has his email address printed on his business card. How important is it today to have a site for your school? How much more business does it generate and is it worth having? Also, does having a site in the cyber world break away from tradition enough to be a factor in deciding if your school is "traditional" or not. Would the old masters of the arts look down on the internet or would they be okay with it? pressureguy

Needed: 100% cotton red heavy weight gi jacket

That is an odd way to spell gi (ghi). Is that how your school/style spells it? PS - I am not being sarcastic. I am really asking. pressureguy -

http://www.martialartsmart.net/kenpouniforms.html They have the 100% cotton heavyweight red tops for about $26. Also https://www.kwonusa.com has them, but they are about $50 for the whole set. pressureguy -
Someone posted a topic on yellow and other colored sparring gear. What does everyone here think of bright colored uniforms? Kwon sells a yellow gi. I found one at eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7114613533 Years back, they sold a green gi, but it was ultra-heavyweight (I like medium weight). I have also seen orange and purple ones for sale in magazines. Would anyone here wear these? pressureguy

https://www.kwon.com or https://www.kwonusa.com They sell a sharp pair of yellow gear. I have a set of the matching red ones and they look really good. pressureguy

I wanted to put this in the instructor's forum, but I guess I should try to keep things in their true category. Does anyone know of a good internet site to buy custom embroidered patches? I found one that is almost perfect (I am trying to be cheap). They have dozens of stock design patches for .88 cent per patch. You have to buy 25-50 at a time and for an additional $25 , they will change or add wording to the patch. That is perfect for me, but they don't have a good design for me. They have three ugly martial art patches and several animal patches, but don't have the animal that I want. I used google.com to find hundreds of patch sites, and bookmarked about a dozen that are pretty good, but I want one similar to the one I just described. Any suggestions? pressureguy

There was a thread about marketing ideas, which I can't find, so I will just post this idea and see what everyone here thinks about it. On Halloween night, throw "free month of class" coupons in the trick or treaters' bags, with some candy of course--don't be cheap Also, you could get parents of students to give out coupons as well. You could get them to put their initials on the coupons to see which parent handed out the most (that got redeemed). To that parent, you could give their kid a free month of classes, or a gift certificate to a local resturant. The gift certificate idea would actually cost less than the free month to their child and be appreciated more. pg

Several months ago, a company that sells diamond gusset kicking jeans (like the old Chuck Norris) jeans had a very small ad in the back of Black Belt magazine. I threw out about two years worth of Black Belt magazines and now I can't remember the name of the company and its website. Does anyone have it? pressureguy

Wanted Bruce Lee gloves/Bong Sau/grappling gloves.
pressureguy replied to Jbone1's topic in Equipment and Gear
Give him a little bit of time to respond. If you emailed him around noon, he may be at work, so he won't get to respond for several hours. Or, he may not email you back for a day or so. 2 hours isn't enough time to respond to you. pressureguy -

The first place that I would look is http://www.martialartssupermarket.com/index.cfm?action=showProd&subid=823 They are the cheapest you can find. Other than that, you could hit ebay.com but you never know what that will turn up. I looked at eBay just now and some guy has a pair of "Bruce Lee" gloves for $24. pressureguy -

any advice on opening a TKD school?
pressureguy replied to Englon's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Hello Englon. Have you considered sharing a building with a dance or gymnastics studio? You may be able to share the rent and utilities with someone like that for use of the building for 2-3 days per week. The problem with that may be if they use the building every day of the week, you would have to stagger the times so that you are walking in as the dancers or gymnasts are walking out. Also, try any yoga studios or community centers in you area. The problem you may have with commnity centers is that you would have to almost become an employee or representative of that community center. Then they could dictate what you teach, or even who or how many you teach. Another suggestion is if you do this and don't end up with enough available days to meet in that building, have your students meet you at a local park one day a week (such as Saturday morning). That would be a good day to avoid forms and really work on self-defense, as you may not want to wear full uniform in a public park. pressureguy -
Where to buy wholesale uniforms?
pressureguy replied to Englon's topic in Instructors and School Owners
One very cheap place to get uniforms, gear, and more is http://www.martialartssupermarket.com/ They have standard ProForce (V-neck) uniforms for $15 (adult size), which is far better than the $40 straight from ProForce, Kwon, or Century. I have been using them for about 8 years now. Speaking of KWON and Century, if you have a business license of some kind (I had a business license for a clothing store my wife and I owned), you can get wholesale accounts with the big companies. KWON knocks their uniform prices from $40 to about $13 and their sparring gear down to about $12 (for gloves or boots). The problem with Century is they want a $200 primary order. KWON (https://www.kwonusa.com) does not require that. Still, if you can't get a business license, http://www.martialartssupermarket.com/ is still your best bet. pressureguy
