Thanks again for the encouragement and tips everyone! I'm about to hit the mat in about an hour and a half so I will be back tonite to let everyone know how it went. Oh yeah and I'm glad you like the siggy Jules! Time to put on some blood pumping music and get into the zone!

Wow you guys are great! Thanks for the encouragement and information. Its just that I started with a group of 2 other beginners and they were doing things with no problem but I think the girl already did tai chi and yoga and the other guy just seemed more athletic than me. Its all good, you all are right, just stick with it and not overexert myself. As usual Master Jules, I thank you for your advice man! I am back in the game and it feels great. I will certainly look at the health and fitness section. Thanks again folks!

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if its just me not being in that great of shape yet but...when I started doing karate (Goju Ryu), after some of the warm up exericses (wheelbarrows across the mat and then 10 pushups at the end, jumping jacks, punching and kicking), I started to run out of breath and actually feel winded to the point of lightheadedness. This is all while everyone else is perky and are ready to keep going. I felt kinda crappy that I was the only one feeling this way. They told me to sit down for a bit and get some juice to drink because I might have been low on electrolytes or something. Anyway, anyone have suggestions?

Well I started Goju Ryu at the beginning of September of this year, very new to martial arts in general. I enjoy it for its application and physical fitness aspects. I've been away from it for a while due to some...inner complications but I am back at it and have no regrets.

Weakness and lightheadedness after headrush

Yeah this sounds familiar but this happened on my first couple of practices. I think it was just because I was heavily out of shape and not breathing properly. I felt light headed and was actually about to pass out. Slighty nausea too. Maybe it was because i wasnt properly hydrated or not enough electrolytes...it was after some strenuous exercises (strenuous for me at least ,everyone seemed to be fine, heavy breathing but fine) -
HAHAHAHAHAHA too cool! Cant wait til its my turn up at the MJ Dojo *cackles...then thinks about it...* im gonna get my * kicked! lol Sounds like you had fun with your master over MJ. Even more interesting that Nadia had a good time with it, thats one cool babe there. Hope you learned alot while he was there too

I just got my Gi and patch and for some reason I feel more "official" when I'm wearing it. More of a uniform thing I guess in general

hey man, I'm in Maryland but I'm taking classes at the University of Maryland - College Park Goju Ryu club. I think you have to be affiliated with the school in some way - but those Kenpo dojo's sound like a good bet. I was wondering what exactly is Kenpo karate like? This is probably a question for another thread but I was just curious.

Ok my goal is to get to 300 pushups in a day by the end of this week, thats in a day mind you. What does doing all those pushups do for me exactly?

Ive heard it a couple times around here, I think its some kind of herbal medicated pomade or something to put on sore areas to help heal or something...like ICY/HOT as mentioned earlier

Yeah I practice Goju ryu and it took me a lil while to get my stance correct. It is an unnatural way at first, but hopefully it will become second nature soon

Do you guys suggest leather because of the quality of the material and so it wont fray or wear out as fast? Or is there another reason why leather is popular. I was looking at the 3 dollar jumprope with wooden handles - im a college student so obviously the money is gonna make some kind of difference

How are you going to compare milk from a cow and milk from a human? Are you planning on drinking human milk? I dont get it, maybe I missed what point you were trying to make with that one. I just know that milk has alot of good benefits as far as calcium and other health positives.

All that good breakfast gets negated with that cigarette. Just so you know. No matter how hard you are training and how healthy your diet is, you keep on smoking those things and its pretty much clearing all that stuff out, especially in the long run. This is coming from a public health perspective as thats my course of study.

**This is Beginner** Thanks Shorin, I will have those memorized by the end of this week so I can impress everyone on Sunday lol I was pretty upset that I missed Sunday's practice because of family. However, sensei made me realize something tonight. We have practice on tuesday nights but I have a class that ends a half an hour before practice ends. So I walked in there tonight just thinking I would watch. Sensei looks at me a little perturbed and says to me, "we have a WHOLE half an hour left and you are just going to watch?? What you learn in 30 minutes on the mat is worth hours of sitting there and watching!" I was stunned, embarassed but mostly enlightened...cuz its the truth. So from now on, i take my workout gear everywhere lol. Also I will be purchasing a gi...I know you told me to start out light MJ but I'm going to order the heavy weight gi (I tried it on tonight) and I think I will benefit much more from it. Thanks again folks
