  1. Im trying to turn my garage into a sparring ring. Any answers? Not much on google. saw some 12x12, 16x16, 20x20, etc. Nothing stating what regulation was. Any one know?
  2. Dood did you get dropped on your head as a child? No one cares what you know about ninjas. Go back to the mat and train. Stop waisting your time trying to be the ninja professor. No one cares, like not even a little bit. Your making an a$$ of yourself. Good lord, ninja boy.
  3. Firend of mine and his brother got jumped by 6 guys in a parkinglot after a hockey game. He stated "He wished I was there, so I could have helped out." He knew I would have jumped in. But jumping in or not, it got me to thinking if i would have been able to be effective at all. I doubted myself, so I decided to get into Kenpo. (Had a friend in it, and he was a brutal fighter.) been in it almost a year now, and love it!
  4. Awesome thanks for the info!
  5. Not bias. I have never seen either of them fight for real. Both were fast, both trained hard. I just like that clip, and this is the perfect opportunity to share it. Parker is fast as lightning tho. Im sure Lee was same same.
  6. http://medusa.propagation.net/parker.mpg I dunno you tell me This is a version of five swords for those kenpoist out there
  7. Oh no, I dont mean you have to kill and destroy everything that comes along. But if you need it, its there. Same old...! I wondered where you got off to. I agree with your post, but wouldn't go so far as to say you have to do extensive dammage every time you fight. On the other hand, if you have to fight and things get a little carried away..., well, he should have behaved in the first place, huh!? It's funny, but since training in Kenpo I've been in a lot less situations that even could have, let alone did, end in violence. 'Course, that could come with getting older too. Hey, you and opnek, and everyone at the LTKKA have a good Christmas!
  8. Man, I have been in some scraps, one involving a gun. All were b4 learning Kenpo, or any other fighting art. I held my own fairly well, I lost some, I won some. After taking Kenpo, I am afraid to fight. Not because of the fear of fighting, but the fear of what will happen to the other person after Im done with the altercation. Kenpo is brutal, and incredibly effective, IF you find the right instructor. While wearing an orange belt, I was fighting 2 TKD Black Belts point fighters in their own gym, (one on one) just horsing around. I mobbed them both with little effort, with my hands, and grappling. While wearing an orange belt I fought a wing chun friend of mine, and devistated him with my feet. (He was same average belt rank as I was) While wearing an orange belt, I fought a BJJ guy from standing, and from mount, and beat him both times. (He was same average belt rank as I was) While wearing an orange belt, I was horsing around with a boxing friend of mine, who was highly skilled (considering he wasnt a pro boxer), and I beat him all day long with simple stance work, and feet. Now imagine what I can do to an untrained person on the street. Next imagine what I can do to an untrained person on the street after I have put in 5 more years, and have a black belt. (And btw, I know, and pretend to know, exactly nothing about Kenpo, I am an orange belt novice.) Proof is in the pudding. And Kenpos pudding is tasty Kenpos principles, and methods are astoundingly simple, and incredibly effective. I would suggest finding a good EPAK (Ed Parkers American Kenpo) school, and a least try it out. Kenpo encompasses everything you would ever need to become an effective fighter. And when needed, a devistatingly brutal fighter. In the little time I have put into it, Kenpo has changed my life. I walk differently, I talk differently, my confidence has been restored, I am happier, healthier, and have a much better temper. God help the next guy that forces me into a situation I dont want to be in. Anyways, good luck on your journey into the martial arts. I hope you can experience Kenpo as I have. Mebbe our paths will cross. Have a Very Merry Kenpo Holiday! Sup Delta1
  9. American Kenpo.
  10. Nice of you to make broad, * statements about a whole group of people. If this was the smith & wesson .40 cal forum, your points would be valid. This is a martial arts forum, where people of like mind can come and express themselves, and trade info / ask questions. Young, old, 1 style or 1000, you can come here and ask questions, and speak your mind. Who are you to belittle that? If you dont like it, take your no style havin *, and your .40 cal, and leave dood. wtf.
  11. We were in class one day, and a current students brother came in to watch. (We take Kenpo). He started blabbing on and on about how he was "a streefighter from way back", and how this or that wouldnt ever work. My instructor (a 3rd black) got frustrated with it, and called him up on the mats with us. He walked up to the instructor, and the instructor asked him to show him some of his moves. He threw a wide right hooking haymaker at my instructor, and my instructor stepped in to the punch, and executed a left chop to his right forearm on the brachial plexus nerve mass, and a right chop to the nerve mass in the crook of the shoulder (in between the chest and arm, in the socket). The guy immediately dropped to the floor and started rolling around. He is now in class 3 days a week.

Cool clip opnek! Congrats on your first place, too! Thanks a ton!
  14. Hes right, parker started with clutching feathers, and taught the full extensions from the beginning. Yellow belt stuff was for the kids to begin with either way, its still good stuff. Teaching a kid throat chops is too hardcore in my opinion, they could kill some 5th grader over a spot in the lunchline The yellow belt curriculum was originally added for kidds! Maaaaan- if you didn't outrank me, I'd make some rude comment about Coloradans! OK, OK- just foolin' wit' ya! Actually, some schools do a begginers class or curriculum so that people can see if they want to get into martial arts. They usually aren't required to buy any uniforms or equipment until they earn their white belt. Gets some people to sign up that otherwise are hesitant. I think it's a good idea, as long as the test is not expensive (free is best, but business is business... ).

    This is good stuff! thanks!
  16. Always parry with the outside of your arm, never the underside, as there are major arteries in the underside of your arms, that will have you bleeding out if you get cut. If a knife does come out, commit to being cut, its going to happen. If at ALL possible, run. Dont stand and fight that fight, as you will lose most likely. Chances are good tho, if you see the knife, the person weilding it probably doesnt know how to use it. So if you must fight, always move to the outside, always use the tops of your arms to deflect, and get control of his whole hand, not his wrists, as you can still very easily get cut if you dont have control of his hands. Remove the knife, and then remove the blood from his body with it, and run. kenpo has some serious knife fighting in it, with some very good techniques against and with a knife. In fact, Mike Pick created a whole knife fighting art based on American Kenpo, and Ed Parkers system. Its very effective stuff. http://www.ukfkenpo.com/pg/qual_authin.html

Here is my instructor and I doing a black belt demonstration at a local city tourney: http://medusa.propagation.net/kenpo.html Only one I have. Soon we will be doing all the belt techniques from white to black on film, and some demo stuff. When i get it, ill put it up for all to see. PS. We took home first place on this
  18. No, Kenpo means "Fist Law" Ken = Fist Po = Law DT Someones been paying attention in class. Sup double You ready for that test coming up?

  20. Agreed. Kenpo is the way to go for effective real world situations in my opinion. It encompasses everything you would need in a real fight to come out alive, and in better shape than the other guy.
  21. I would say find a good American Kenpo instructor. (Ask them if they teach Ed Parkers system or not.) Can get you out of most situations. You may want to follow it up with some good grappling, and ground fighting arts (Brizilian Jui Jitsu). But American Kenpo is very well rounded, and should have most everything you need, and is very effective immediately.
  22. Thats just too silly to comment on. Lee was just a man. There is always someone better. Always. He was one of the greats for sure, but not undefeatable. Your buying into commercial crap, and not doing your homework. He did study with Parker, and Parkers blackbelts did beat him on a consistent basis. There is documented proof, and I heard it from a man that HAS sparred Lee, and watched him get beaten. Just because it didnt happen in a tournament that the news media was subjected to, doesnt mean it didnt happen.
  23. I just got out of a seminar with Grand Master Larry Tatum this weekend, and during his question.answer portion, the subject of Mr. Parkers relationship with Bruce Lee came up. It turns out that Bruce Lee was actually a house guest of Mr. Parker for 1 year, and during that time, they exchanged principles/ideas frequently. Thus the probable reason Lee's style has Kenpo influences, and visa versa.

  25. How many times do I have to repeat myself? PLEASE OPEN YOUR EYES AND READ THE POSTS I LEFT. Book called "The Journey" has info on it, as well as the many URLs I left in previous posts. My current instructor has tons of material on Parkers encounters with Lee, etc etc etc etc.
