if it helps ya out with an idea of a workout routine, this is what i do; 8-12reps, 3 sets + 1 warmup set. 1st day back&biceps&shoulders 2nd day chest&triceps 3rd day legs after that 3rd day, i always rest one day and then repeat the cycle. i make sure to do my stomach with every workout and do cardio 5 times a week as well. hope this helps

pretty much what rich said, what worked for me was eating LOTS of protein, your gonna have to learn to love tuna or start buying protien shakes and such. your chest and legs will be contributing most of the added weight do to the fact that those are the larger muscle groups. i can't remember the exact equation for protien intake, but i'm currently 6'0 and 190lbs (lost 10 over past few weeks preparing for a tourny), but i believe i'd have to eat like 6 cans of tuna a day just to make the minimum. i'm not 100% sure on this info, but it did work for me and i highly recommend it if you feel your too thin. PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN hope this helps

I want to train with nunchaku, any recommended videos?
Croy replied to Croy's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
if you highly recommend it, then i'll most likely order it, can ya give me the information where i can get it? just looked for it online, like you said, nothing -
i'd really like to get in alot more cardio, but don't really want to waste my time if it won't be very productive, so if you've tried doing an hour of cardio twice a day for a total of 2hours per day about 5 days a week, let me know, i'm really interested in finding out just how effective it is

i want to start using the nunchaku but there is nobody in my area that is qualified to instruct, so i'm looking for a basic-advanced video set that can help me learn, so anyone who has checked out a video that they would HIGHLY recommend, i'd appreciate the info. tnx in advance

yeah, we are defenitely sparring oriented, at least 20mins a day. I have a friend who won nationals a few years back so i also go to him for advice, he was telling me that the whole sparring environment is different when your fighting for "keeps". my instuctor never announces or advertises any tournaments, so just recently i made contact with another instructor who is now sending me the flyers. i know 1st degree isn't exactly the best time to start tournys, but ya gotta start somewhere. and i believe nationals are in march in philadelphia this year aren't they? i'll be there for sure, i just want some tourny experience before hand

i'll be attending my first TKD tourny on November 6, i been training my butt off the past several weeks and am looking for a few good workouts/excersises and/or tips that might help me out. from what i understand, matches will consist of 1 two minute round, single elimination, 2pts for kick to the head, 1pt for kick to the body and 1 pt for punch to head/body. tnx for any info

Speed/Quickness drills, while having limited mobility.......
Croy replied to Croy's topic in Health and Fitness
tnx for the info rotten, i don't have a chair, i have a truck to work around, lol, but i defenitely do like the idea of adding some more weight and going with some basics -
i've got a speed bag, but never use it, so sorry i can't answer that part, but as far as jumping rope, defenitely use it, excellent for cardio(if you can manage more than 20mins on it), great for rhythm, and you'll notice an improvement on the height of your jumps, therefore making the jump kicks alot easier

kinda curious as to what some of yall listen to to "keep you motivated" while working out. how many of yall listen to some of the older tracks such as "eye of a tiger" or "your the best"

Speed/Quickness drills, while having limited mobility.......
Croy replied to Croy's topic in Health and Fitness
wow, 2 posts and no response to my question, you can call me a security guard if you want, i am a federal agent with the border patrol. untill a sensor goes off or i recieve a call, i really have nothing better to do other than read a book or preferably work on something i love, i.e. martial arts. so any answer to my original question would be greatly appreciated. -
Speed/Quickness drills, while having limited mobility.......
Croy replied to Croy's topic in Health and Fitness
without going into detail about my job description, i have ALOT of time to train and get some excersise -
i have my first tournament coming up within the next month and a half and would like to work on some speed and quickness drills for my legs. The thing is, i'd like to get a good workout while i'm at work because most of my cardio and strength training is done right after, and i barely have time to eat between work, gym, and class. when i say i have limited mobility, i'm talking about my work uniform, i'm with law enforcement and if you've ever seen the pants, then you know they suck for almost anything martial arts related, i may be able to get a kick as high as the belt, but higher than that, i'm gonna end up showing a little more than i'd like to . So my question: having limited range of motion only to the waist, and about 10lbs of gear around the waste, what good speed drills can be done that would help gain speed and quickness for kicks that will be thrown to the head in class? thanks in advance

Holding a high kick......(active flexiblity)......
Croy replied to Croy's topic in Health and Fitness
tnx for the info, sadly enough, i never really considered doing slow motion kicks for any reason other than to work on proper form. thank you -
hello, this is my first post, i currently hold first degree blackbelts in TKD and Aikido and just started Hapkido as well. Anyways, anyone know of good routines/excersises to increase this ability? i have very good flexibility and can kick well above my head, but if i could throw multiple high kicks i believe this would add a good deal to my arsenal. so anyone who has worked on this and is able to give me some good information, i'd appreciate it greatly. tnx
