  1. Hmmn, you butchered the interpretation as not meaning understand. You stated once that opinions are either right or wrong. With that, peace be unto you DM.
  2. Furthermore. I agree with you. I am just stating how many things are interpreted, or for that matter mis-interpreted. Shaolin Do. I cannot state for sure that it is a good or a bad art based upon there interpretation/undersatnding on the eords combined to create their name/identity.
  3. You are not interpreting/understanding me. Again, please read this: Perhaps the people of Shaolin Do are not concerned with "school of thoughts". Perhaps they want to focus on the translation and combination of the words as they want to interpret. They are not concerned with the Chinese interpretation perhaps because they are not Chinese or in China. Perhaps they wanted a new indentity. And I am talking about interpretation and mis-interpretation. Which has been my subject from the get go.
  4. So you are saying that Shaolin Do is only their understanding and/or not their interpretation of it? Or is it their interpretation and/or not their understanding of it? Or from your point: Shaolin Do is only their mis-understanding and/or not their mis-interpretation of it? Or is it their mis-interpretation and/or not their mis-understanding of it? So in a nutshell they can do one and not the either.
  5. And yes, per a specific context, their can be a catholic jew.
  6. Interpret and understand, per a specific context, can mean the same thing.
  7. And careful, a lot of people tend to think as Shaolin not as a school of thought, but as a place of martial arts. How can Shaolin, a school of thought, become a school of martial arts and accept martial arts/fighting? And some people tend to think do as simply meaning "way" and not those towards Taoism. Back to my general comment. Things are interpreted and/or misinterpreted by many "do"(s)
  8. Perhaps the people of Shaolin Do are not concerned with "school of thoughts". Perhaps they want to focus on the translation and combination of the words as they want to interpret. 9. Hmmn. Misunderstanding and mis-interpretation. Look in the English dictionary, the words have close to the same meaning.
  10. Careful, some English words cannot be romanticized. Just like there can not really exist a complete/totally rightful or complete/totallywrongful opinion. In all it not matters how you or I see it. The people of that art see it in a different interpretation. It is their freedom or opinion, to use it out of context. Now the question is, since they use it in that manner, does that mean they have less skills or people of quality?
  11. So you saying a misunderstanding is not the same a mis-interpretation?
  12. You want my interpretation or what I have heard or learned about someone else"s
  13. Say for instance, The people of their art Shaolin Do, interpret these words to mean "Shaolin Way". That their ways or methods are like Shaolin's. However, from your interpretation, resulting fron their interpretation, you believe that they have a mis-interpretation. Perhaps their usage of the words could be that of a oxymoron statement, like large shrimp, etc. But, since it is in their mindset, they don't believe it is a misinterpretation. So that created a new name, out of their interpretation of two words. Something like a butterfly that doesn't realize its a butterfly.
  14. You mean, after all of this, you don't see anything wong with that name? What is your interpretation of that name? And does your interpretation, per the way you read it or pronounce it, going to help those using it per their interpretation or mis-interpretation. Which in turn, are going to have their following or contacts do the same.
  15. Dont get narky. I understand (interpret) what you are saying about the whole thing. All I am doing is making a general statement and give a general example, on how things are intepreted or mis-interpreted. Take Shaolin Do. I understand (interpret) that from the moment I saw someone teaching this locally, had a mis-interpretation of those two terms coming together. However, I understand (interpret) why they had interpreted that way. Which, in accordance to them, and others, think that its ok. Do you understand now what I am interpretng?
  16. OK, it short, things are interpreted or misinterpreted in accordance to how they are read or applied. Other words of interpreted or mis-interpreted-used or mis-used, understood or mis-understood.
  17. So in essence, it depends on the level of intolerence per the instructor?
  18. Just a intepretation or mis-intepretation of spelling. I guess the point, because of romanisations, spelling, intepretation and/or mis-intepretation can create some confusion. Thus all have to be concerned pending on its context or discussion.
  19. I guess it will be hard to do a effective elbow from someone 5'-1 on someone 6'-4? Yes, depending the skill or abilities of the 6'-4...........
  20. My thoughts: 1.) Some what on the first two, not so on Karate (then again pending the style/system). Confusing-perhaps pending on your learning curve. The purpose of training and/or cross trtaining is to practice movement/method that become "your own". Thus, having a arsenal and versitility, make you a versitile martial artist 2.) Generally, it is not a good idea to take mutiple sessions from different schools having different methods. However, it depends on the individual. Some instructors don't want to teach in this manner (in some cases) if they know that a student is learning at another source. 3.)Wait longer. Or it depends on how long you have been studying. What is your comprehension level, and what are your goals, or desired benefits to accomplish. 4.) Re-read 1-3.
  21. Ah yes, the set up and pending the situation or opponent. Yes, we must forget or pretend that the opponent does not have any skills or abilities.
  22. I agree to this to a "degree". But what if the instructor has not a lot of expereince or not much more to offer? How can one, needing more instruction, look into things deeper that they have already. What if one had put in much time and "patience" to discover that they gone, with that particular instructor or school, as far as they can go?
  23. Understood that already. Hence Shaolin si (si-in this case meaning temple) So much about the other translations of si? and what of Sil Lum? Sil= Lum= In all, there are many interpretations, or shall we say pending the person's romanisation, can cause mis-interpretations of certain things.
  24. It is all in the matter of situation and the skill of each in the conrontation. I guess in is all in theory
