Hello.
-
A friend of mine is an instructor in a MA different from mine. Eventhough I did not "join" his dojo, I would attend some of his classes just to work out with them. I wore my BB but I would always line up in the last position on the last row.

Exactly! It is the person's own ability within their art that matters, not the name of the art.

Pretty Stupid. -
The color of the belt should reflect the level of ability and understanding one has of the art they study, not the number of years they have studied. I know some systems require a certain amount of "practice hours", or a certain amount of time each student has to stay in each rank before they are eligible for promotion. I do not agree with this. MAs is an individual thing. Some students will "get it" faster than others, and they should be promoted accordingly. If someone has the ability and understanding to move to the next level, why hold them back? In Japan, it is common for students to be promoted just *before* they are ready for the next belt. The instructor knows that the student will try harder in their training to get to the level they have been promoted to. I know this would never work here in the U.S., but it shows the difference in the belt systems of East and West. As I've said on other threads, I don't care about the color of the belt, its the knowledge that is important.

What makes this style so good and why do you need "pretty good legs"? -
lol at Shorin Ryuu's first post. Mr. Gilbert. You stated that you are a 14 year old kid. I came to this conclusion on my own after reading some of your other posts, but could you please tell me how many years you have dedicated to the research and development of Ki? I would guess about 10 minutes, unless you're a slow reader and then I'd say maybe 20 minutes. A serious question here: What do you think qualifies you as an expert on Ki, and what knowledge could you provide someone that emails you? One of my arts strongly focuses on the development and use of Ki, so therefore I believe that it does exsist. I have repetedly seen very high ranking practisioners demonstrate it in various techniques. Those artists that study systems that do not devote time and energy to the development of Ki will more than likely not believe in it because they have not seen it, or experienced it. Don't get so wacked out of shape when others do not agree with you or ask questions. Thats what this forum is all about, a free and open exchange of ideas. Relax and open your heart and mind to learning new things. Oh yeah, you said that Bruce Lee was the best fighter you have ever seen. Why do you believe this and have you ever seen him fight?

The question is'nt "should you learn ninjutsu", it's "do you want to learn ninjutsu". Ninjutsu is a very well rounded art that is focused totally on self preservation. As I have stated in many other threads on this subject, there are more fake "ninjutsu" schools than there are real ones. Be very careful and research the school and instructor before you do anything.

fights and experiences..(streetfights etc...)whats yours?
gcav replied to Gilbert's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The "best fight" is the one that never happens. -
Alot of MA training is conducted under very unrealistic conditions. This has been a problem for a long time. The distances used between students during one step and free sparring is not what you'll find on the street. The speed of a street fight is different from that of sparring as well. There are other areas but I'll keep this post short. I require outside training and training in street clothes and shoes as well. Also, I will bring in large boxes and have them scattered around the mat to simulate furniture, by-standers, bar stools, etc. Realism is a must in training.

Is teaching essential for higher ranks?
gcav replied to Bart the Lover's topic in Instructors and School Owners
There are some very good posts in this thread. Teaching helps you re-enforce the basics in your own mind. I have been teaching for 20 something years and still love doing it. -
There are too many variables to answer. But if someone attacks me, I attack back.

If it happens when you're just standing around thinking about this guy, do something physical: push ups, punches, etc., and that will expel the energy. -
