  1. Hope everythng works out for you and L.
  2. MMA usually means mixed martial arts. An instructor will take what he or she thinks are the best parts of several different MAs, put them all together, and teach it as one system. If you get the right mix, MMAs can be a very effective system for self defense. You can start just about any MA without prior experience. HTH
  3. Funny.
  4. What the ****? There was a thread like this one not too long ago and I wrote about being attacked with a glow worm (a kid's toy).
  5. Welcome to the family. And remember to duck.

I'm going to open a new school with the follwoing belt system: No Belt Egg Shell White Snow White Pink Yellow Orange Light Green Dark Green Barny the Dino Purple Deep Purple Sky Blue Light Blue Royal Blue Midnight Blue Candy Apple Red Dark Red Tan Light Brown Medium Brown Dark Brown Desert Camouflage Woodland Camouflage Black Then I might add stripes and lines and checkers. I can charge $50.00 a test and make the students buy their new belts and gis from me as well.

  8. I have found that Aikido is usually higher priced than other MAs. My school is only $60.00 month.

    Hard choice

This choice is yours to make. The only advice I can give you is to look deep inside the two MAs you are studying. See what their true nature, direction and intentions are. Then look deep inside yourself and see what your true nature, direction and intentions are. The MA that is closer to your "self" should stand out, and the choice will be easier to make. Good luck.
  11. I think that most of the "popular" or "main stream" MAs in the US are McDojos. I know there are some dojos within those systems that are not, but on average I'd say they are. It has been my experience that there is a big difference in the level of intensity and focus in the training from overseas and in the US.
  12. Sorry to hear about your loss.
  13. I wear an eye patch. ARRRRRR.
  14. Never limit your options. Train hard and often and you will have more confidence in all of your techniques. I teach to use low kicks as much as possible on the street (especially for lower belts), but you never know when the oppertunity will present itself to take that kick to the head. A friend of mine has kicks that are so fast that he can hit you in the head with a front, side or round house kick before your brain even registers that his foot is moving.
  15. If someone pulls a gun on you, from any distance, the best thing that you can do is what ever he/she tells you to do. The only time you should even consider doing anything else is when you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that he/she is going to kill you. My life is worth more than whats in my wallet.
  16. Do not carry a knife for protection. Trust me on this.
  17. Its not the size of the man in the fight, but the size of the fight in the man.
  18. OKayyyyyyyy. What comics are you reading?
