  1. I don't practice "xma" as in the program class or whatever. But I do "trick" which is a generic terf for the acrobatics, flips, and tricks. Extreme Karate(The Rundown) -bad for real life situations. -good for competetions, tv shows, and movies -excellent for getting young people interested in martial arts -has fighting applications in the infamous point sparring ring -not completely useless(nor is it essential)
  2. In sparring, if you want to fight and allow groin kicks you just say so. But, for females the chest area and groin are mysteries to males. WOmen have told me that those areas are sensitive and hurt. My question is, what do you think of hitting to the chest? Just anything you want to say
  3. I read it whenever I'm in an airport or something. Most of the techniques they show, I try them at the dojo...Needless to say, they don't work. SHOCKING(sarcasm)
  4. oh that was good. remember that scene in me, myself in irene, where they try to put down the cow. lol
  5. you forget to set your clock back. as you walk into the multi use gym, , that your karate class is held in, wearing your gee, you give a loud "OSS". and bow. As you look up you are met by the bewildered stares and giggles of the daily jazzercise class.
  6. You must hit yourself with a bamboo stick all day as hard as you can. Or what the other guys said. Which reminds me. You know those "conditioning sticks" that are sold in MA Supply catalogs. DO they work?
  7. I get this odd feeling that if I do this in front of a class I will fail horribly. Worked on my sister though.
  8. If you want to win in a tournament do these things. 1. Watch the people who win that division 2. Imitate as much of their garbage as you can 3. Remember judgin is subjective so it doesn't have to be a good kata to win. Just what the jusges like to see
  9. If you download UFC Greatest Knockouts from morpheus/kazaa/imesh/whatever one of them is of these two guys on the ground grappling and wrestling for an advantage. One guy is so wrapped up in grappling he gets elbowed in the temple and is knocked out. In my school when we grapple we don't strike because it's too dangerous to hit with no pads. How can one remeber to just smack someone while the try to lock you up?
  10. In my dojo and a lot of other dojos one trains on a padded floor. The soft foam/ rubber/ whatever pads are to help cushion falls. But, the just wouldn't be able to stand up to so many people walking over them.
  11. Karate is recognized by the Olympics as a sport. Also, "Open" tournaments allow any style to come and compete.
  12. I went to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. I only saw the track and Field though
  13. Never heard of him. But, I think aoutographs arn't worth much while the guy is still living. Sure an autographed rookie card from Babe Ruth is worth a lot. But, karate hasn't reached the level where collectors will pay a lot IMO
  14. Presenting UFC Pride Fighting Ortiz vs. Gracie The pillowfight of the century. No holds barred feathers will fly (pay-per-view $59.99 usd. May contain content not suitable for children.)
  15. if he's gettin attacked by more than one person, open a can of whoop...
  16. What's the goofiest thing you've tried to get away with in the dojo? I once forgot my gee pants and tried to pass my black jeans off as heavy weight uniform pants. Didn't work.
  17. Definitely wanna avoid stepping on that sticky resdue left behind after a few sets of situps. *cringes* Avoid being in the way when farting accours during stretches.
  18. after days a training, any time the surface I walk on changes my abs start to pull my body foward to bow. Happened whil corssing street once, very dangerous.
  19. I'm envisioning doing some of these things to my instructors. And now I envision myself lying in a growing pool of blood
  20. Judging is a problem in a lot of circuits. There was a really good article on the problems thaat plague sport karate. It included a section on the problems with judging. It pretty much comes down to money. If you want good judges pay them like other sports. But, unlike other sports you need 3-5 judges for ONE ring ALL DAY. And each ring only can play two players at one time. Where in other sports such as baseball(3 umpires for 18 players, soccer(4 officials for 22 players),; these sports need less judges, and people will pay tos ee them, and can see them in stadiums. Both not very likely at this time on a large scale for sport martial arts.
  21. In point sparring they go for light, not to hot, durable, and shock absorbant pads. I really like Macho's Rival line. Just be sure you don't stuff them in your bag or whatever and that they arn't getting crushed cuz they'll crack. Top Ten has nice pads. SOme tell em they are little hot though. But absorbant and comfortable. Machos old gear is my favorite. yeah that's it. If you do it right. Whatever pads you wear, will be what the pros wear(get it, because you would be the pro. ahaha)
  22. Just wear a mouth piece and a cup. Because everything else can be fixed. Just my 2 cents. ok my one cent
  23. If a 10 year old can take our blackbelt test. With th ebeatings, and exhastion and other extremes, give them the gosh darn belt.
  24. get over your fear an djump. You might fall so what. You might get hit by a truck crossing the street.
