  1. YOU let them win?? Kensai, Pleazeeee!!!! LOL Oh Chokes rules, i've been able to use them when i spar/roll in the class. In fact, most of the time i have made my classmates tap with Chokes. But i have been choked back, and guess what? isn't pleasent. lol Once we were doing chokes and i had this guy trying to do them on me, always got wrong. Then intructor comes gives him a hint, Boom, there I was tapping for my life. lol I also felt my head falling from the rest of my body. lol Chokes are a great weapon. P.S. I want those books too "Judo Masterclass" i'd sell my soul to the Devil for those books. lol
  2. Oh that's a very good advice. I should have read it before.
  3. Hey! I also didn't understood what they tried to say..lol Aikidoese isn't an universal language.. talk in good ol' basic english. lol!
  4. This is the web page of the founder of Combat Hapkido https://www.ichf.com there you'll find all the info about the style and the Master. Its a official Kwan endorsed by the KIDO that's the body who reconize all Korean or Korean Based Styles. Its a legit Style.
  5. Oh My, Don't sign Contracts people.. don't do it!!!
  6. Well, if it works and you can use it, then its just fine...
  7. Congratulations for your Both promotions on two diferent styles, your purple Belt in Shotokan Karate Style and your yellow belt in Karate forums Style. lol
  8. Krav Maga..... you are saying you have a bad knee so a hardcore, competitive style like Muay Thai won't be a good choice. Just my opinion.
  9. Hapkido do both, self defense and has a lot of kicks.
  10. Shadow Boxing is fighting an imaginary oponent. Using diferent types of combos and footwork. In Kata, you have to memorize patterns and do them in order. They are pre-set. In Shadowboxing the moves are done in a free way.
  11. Shotokan Karate, that was my first style. lol I remember the days i started in the martial arts. Oh how hard and painfull it was, my instructors of that time were "old School" so the training was long and hard, but also fun. About the rank, as i said, Old School, i trained there for 3 years without skipping a class and i reached the level of 4th Kyu Purple Belt. Now, the color ranks of our school were better than some Black belts of other schools. lol I STILL have the little Worm in my heart that tells me i should go back and train Karate. Just for personal pleasure. lol
  12. To me, is more the way you train than the style. If you train hard, long, and you know the weak/strong points of your style, and you do full contact spar and/or Progessive resistance training, you can be effective. AND Crosstrain. Believe that Only ONE style is the answer for ALL the needs of good self defense is wrong, But, hey, thats just MY opinon.
  13. Maybe Wing Chun Kung can also help you...
  14. Any Style can be effective if you train it the right way. Chances to make your Karate more effective on street grows when you do full contact sparring and Progressive resistance training. When i was in Shotokan karate, my instructor once sucessfully defend himself When 4 guys tried to jump him. Now, Besides the knowledge of karate, he is a true tough guy. Also he was from the Old School Karate training when the art wasn't for everybody, you needed to be fit and you needed to be tough to stay on those classes.
  15. Is someone getting his butt choked around here?? LOL!
  16. Jigoro Kano, Gen. Choi Hong Hi. Helio Gracie Masatoshi Nakayama. Mas Oyama Ueshiba Gichin Funakoshi there are so many..
  17. Thanks for the link, i'll check it out right away.
  18. I was reading that Tang Soo Do IS korean Karate, Tang Soo is the korean word for Chinese Hand, that same word that is in Japanese Karate, Now in Japanese the word Karate has two meanings, China hand and empty hand. Funakoshi started to use the word empty hand for his art. I also read it that in Tang Soo Do you have korean versions of chinese Forms like Tai chi and Long Fist in the advanced Black Belt levels. Even some School teachs Okinawan weapons like Bo, sai, Tonfa, etc.. ,
  19. A mix of striking, Grappling, weapons, etc... I think that depends on the person and his personal preferences.
  20. Panama city, Panama. For those who doesn't know where it is.. its a country ln Central America. Aikido Judo Boxing Taekwondo Tang soo do Hapkido Karate Shotokan Karate Goju ryu Karate kyokushin Karate Kempo Combat Sambo Kung Fu (praying manits) I've heard there will be a New BJJ school open next month, but i can't say if its legal or not. Have to wait until its open.
  21. To me, Bruce Lee popularized the idea of "crosstraining" using his celebrity status... also, he put martial arts on the map with his movies. The fact he died when he was at his peak make him a Legend and an Icon in the martial arts world. Thanks to that, Martial Arts grow, using Bruce Lee as there Idol, and if it wasn't for that, maybe many of us wouldn't be training martial arts on the first place. I don't blame you for question his skills as a fighter, because he was mainly an Actor. He was a great martial artist, but not a tournament champion, that wasn't his goal. To be honest, there are many great martial artist that aren't tournament champions. And yes, i have my doubts he could have beat fighters like Norris or Wallace or Urquidez. Overrated or Not, He deserve a place in the martial arts world.
  22. In no particular order: Brazilian Jiu jitsu Boxing Karate Taekwondo/Tang soo do Aikido/jiu jitsu Judo Wrestling Muay Thai Combat Sambo Hapkido
  23. Why don't you join to a jiu jitsu school then? or look for a Judo school? learn the basics first with an instructor before you even try to learn grappling from videos. Even if you video-train you still must be in a School so you can roll (spar), Ground grappling needs a lot of sparring to be learned well. With videos you may learn the moves, by rolling you'll learn how to use them. ALSO, you can get in touch with the Brazilian jiu-jitsu school and ask them when they'll have seminars, then you travel to the school and learn the basics with an instructor. If you want to learn Catch wrestling techniques from videos, then i suggest you look as a base Grappling style Wrestling (freestyle/grecoroman) because that's basically what Catchwrestling is, Submission Wrestling. hope this helps
