  1. Now training in eclectic TKD Ho shin sul Kwan. crosstrained in Kickboxing, Karate. I'll add Brazilian Jiu jitsu in a near future.
  2. well, actually you can do both, take a style you like and also that fits with your body type. Since you are tall and skinny, maybe Korean Styles can suit better. Kickboxing can be a choice too. But if you don't like it, its like nothing. Look for all styles, see the ones you like the most.
  3. I did Shotokan karate in my first 3 years in Martial arts and reached the 4 kyu.
  4. I have that Aikido Book!!!!... i haven't read it carefully i bought it because of all the excellent reviews. I'll check it out.
  5. Both Styles can be effective if they are used properly. But, if your shotokan school do ONLY sport karate, then its more likely it won't work on the streets the way it should. With Shotokan you'll Use more Strong Punches and Kicks, with Hapkido is more Locking and throwing, Plus punch and kicks. It also depend on your own skills as a fighter.. one style will suit better than the other for you and your natural skills/talents.
  6. Yep, its seems TKD have that problem more than anyother martial art, i mean, the Mcdojo problem
  7. "8 Million Taekwondo Schools in my area".... Excuse me, again, where do you live? in Taekwondoland??? lol!
  8. I'm agree!!!
  9. Just a little tiny correction in your post Kensai.. the Old Korean Style wasn't called Tang Soo Do... it was called Soo Bahk that's one of the older Korean martial arts. Tang Soo Do name started to be used after 1945 when the Japanese left Korea.. and the Korean were starting to look for there martial Arts identity.
  10. To Me Date people on the School isn't a big deal... the problem is people who go to the School To get a Date and meet girls/boys and care less about Martial Arts. If you go to the martial Arts school to train Martial Arts and then you happend to meet a hot chick there, they good Luck.lol
  11. Hmmm the problem with Shotokan is that you may end up taking SPORT Karate with little to none self defense, Specially after you just mention they have won a lot of tournaments. So that may be a Sport Karate school. i'd say Take Hapkido instead. they teach how to strike with hands and feet, they teach join lock and throws, mediatition, weapons, etc... its well rounded. And of course when you have the chance to do it, Take BJJ, Muay Thai or any of the styles recomemded by MuayThai..
  12. Skipping rope is killing... I used to train in the Old School karate in the first years and wow, THAT was hard. We did diferent kinds of conditioning exercises and drills (fist push up, chin up, kick Squats, running, all the abs exercises you can think about, Low zenkutsu dashi walking, Stay in Kiba Dashi until the sensei wants) for about an hour and after that, One hour of hardcore Karate. and If you did something wrong, you have to do push up until you get tired and then 50 more!!!! We were not allowed to drink water, no breaks, No compasion. lol We did Kata a lot, like 5 to 10 times each one. There was a point in which your feet start to get blisters. And THEN Kumite, no protective gear or anything, if you get caught with a reverse punch, too bad. lol Those time were the days my training was hard.
  13. In our School White Belts were allowed to spar when they had all the techniques needed for sparring. Now in our school you could be a white belt for around 4 to 5 months, not like the usual 2 to 3 months most of the school used to test. It was a light sparring only to look for proper distance timing and skill.
  14. Oh Yes monkey, if you want a girl to talk a lot, make her talk about Boys and gossips. lol! Next time we'll have tea and cookies.
  15. My instructor have a Black Belt In TKD. He used to teach it in a diferent way the other TKD school did. He taught all the basics, forms, Kicks, etc... But he added soooo many other things that TKD don't use to teach... He Teach Boxing punches, Takedowns and takedown defenses, Join locks and throws, GRound Fighting.. there wasn't too much clinch work though but we did trained our Knees and Elbows. Our TKD class was more for combat and self defense than Sport... We used to have 3 rounds of sparring, WTF TKD sparring, Boxing and Combat grappling (strikes and grappling). Our School was trully well rounded and our TKD was Effective.
  16. Goodevening, My Name is Submission Fighter and im a Martial Arts addicted, Please don't try to help me, Don't send me to rehab, I don't want to recover from my addition. lol!
  17. Now.. Since he's new on School, maybe it just a little crush.. take your time and see what happends. Oh, none can resist the sweet/bitter taste of the forbidden Love. lol
  18. well, find a way to see him away from School lol Life is only ONE and you have to enjoy it... Just Keep it secret. lol I won't say "Don't do it, don't date people from School" because you'll do it anyway. lol So all im going to say is.. if you're going to do it, do it Right. lol
  19. It has been ALWAYS a Show... Just that the very first UFC's looked more like legit tournaments about martial Arts. but it was still mainly a show.
  20. Maybe in Brazil they have... It will be good to make a movie that Shows BJJ as a whole, with the stand up techniques and the ground grappling. They can make the Helio Gracie story or even the Rickson Gracie Story.
  21. Oh by the way.. here in Panama School don't work with Contract... you pay monthly or weekly, Period.
  22. Here in Panama city, Panama (Central America) the average is $30-$50 a month in a good school, $80 a month here is super expensive. You can still catch classes with little groups in Parks and stuff for about $10-$20 a month and sometimes with good quality.
  23. Try.. https://www.centuryfitness.com https://www.blackbeltmag.com They have Ninjutsu tapes. Not sure about the quality, i guess you have to do your homework.
  24. It works both ways, I've seen Shotokan Karate Schools that trains only Kata, Kata, Kata and More Kata just for tournaments, with little to NO contact sparring, self defense classes or body conditioning. That not just happend on Taekwondo, it depends on which school you train.
