The Top 13 Signs You've Joined the Wrong Martial Arts School
Mu Ryuk replied to a topic in General Chat
Wow...that was random and pointless. Naturally I loved it Dratix - Bruce Lee never said "Give me back my sandals or I'm keeping your nephews hamster." Bruce wouldnt do that -
What every serious Martial Artist should never wear

I'm with you there! This is a bit off the topic, but just kind of funny... A Quiznos just opened up practically right next to our Dojang...there is nothing so amusing as a giant soda cup with the word "Quiznos" printed on it walking in front of your Dojang when you're trying to train...except maybe when it walks by during the kids class!! Oh the fun we could have, checking if that cup has enough padding to withstand a good Flying Side Kick...heh heh heh -
Hey, Just thought I'd get a thread started about everyone's favorite quotes. They can be inspirational, funny, pointless, whatever. Here are some of mine: IMPOSSIBLE IS JUST A BIG WORD THROWN AROUND BY SMALL MEN WHO FIND IT EASIER TO LIVE IN THE WORLD THEY'VE BEEN GIVEN THAN TO EXPLORE THE POWER THEY HAVE TO CHANGE IT. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A FACT. IT'S AN OPINION. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A DECLARATION. IT'S A DARE. IMPOSSIBLE IS POTENTIAL. IMPOSSIBLE IS TEMPORARY. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING. "I shall die on my feet before I live on my knees." - Emmanuel Zapata "If what you did yesterday seems big to you today, you haven't done enough today." - Unknown "Fall seven times, stand up eight" - Proverb "We need to stop crying and start sweating. Stop talking and start walking. With common faith we cannot fail!" -President Jimmy Carter "Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held it's ground." - Unknown "Give me liberty or give me death!" - Patrick Henry "You don't want anyone who doesn't want you." - Unknown "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire "It's not the destination. It's the journey that counts." - Unknown "The measure of a man is not in how he does the things he loves, but how he does the things he must." -Me And a few funny ones: "To err is human. To forgive is against company policy." - Random Bumper Sticker "If you ever fall off the sears tower, go real limp and try to look like a dummy, and maybe people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy." - Jack Handey Tang Soo!

Cross Training: Is three to much to handle?
Mu Ryuk replied to Mu Ryuk's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't go to high school. I do independent study, specifically because I HATED high school. Everyone was messing with me...it was very close to escalating to physical violence, and I know I made the right decision in leaving before it got to that point. Battousai- I love my family. I simply don't enjoy their company. Plus...they always eat my motzarella cheese heh heh heh. -

Thanks guys...here's a breakdown for you. Job- I'm fifteen. If I REALLY want to get a job, my instructor has offered to pay me for everything I do around the Dojang, but I've declined. Religion - I'm a non practicing Jew. My religion is "be a good person". Time with my family - Hahahahahahahahaha...NO. Social life- Most of my friends attend my Dojang anyway. Just in case we want to throw it it... Girlfriend- I wish. Thanks again guys, any more opinions are welcome and appreciated. Tang Soo! -
Hey all, looking for some opinions here. I am currently training in Tang Soo Do and Escrima, and am thinking about joining the local Wrestling club. This is what my schedule looks like: Monday: Tang Soo Do 6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M 8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday: Tang Soo Do 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Escrima 8:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Wednesday: Tang Soo Do 6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M 8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday: Tang Soo Do 6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M 8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Friday: Tang Soo Do 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Saturday: Tang Soo Do 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Escrima 12:00 P.M. - 1:30 P.M. Sunday: Off Tang Soo Do and Escrima are at the same place. I usually come in Monday through Thursday at about three and stay to clean up/ help instruct, whatever. As far as I know the Wrestling club meets once a week, on Thursday nights, and there are morning Tang Soo Do classes on Tuesday and Thursday, so I could make up for the missed session. Any opinions? Much appreciated. Tang Soo!

Like many people have said, it's about the school. As long as the teacher admits and emphasizes that it is NOT for fighting, go for it. Do what you like. It's definitely not easy to do, and it's great for flexibility and balance. I had to go with "It's just a fad", that's as close as I can get to my beliefs. That being said, the XMA official black belt just upsets me. The uniforms are just stupid, in my opinion, but they should really keep traditional belts out of respect. Yes I am aware that the uniform and colored belt system is not very old itself, but still. Battousai, if you know, what are the schools belt tests like? What are they graded on? Tang Soo!

What would you change about your style?
Mu Ryuk replied to CloudDragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I love my style (Tang Soo Do) but I wish our school was a bit more Traditional and serious...we are a bit McDojoish in some ways. But I love the school with all my heart, and will never leave it...just try to do things my way. Tang Soo! -
Hey everyone...well, I'll skip the preliminaries and get straight to it. Name: Jacob/Jake Age: 15 Location: Monterey, California Styles: Tang Soo Do, Giron Arnis Escrima. Height: 5'6 Weight: 194.6 lbs Trained for eight years (ages three to eleven) in Tang Soo Do under Ted Attebury (Cho Dan) then left. Gained a lot of weight. Recently returned, after the passing of Mr.Attebury and am now training under Matt Durney (Cho Dan). at the same Dojang. I returned as a 10th Gup (White Belt) and am now a 7th Gup (Blue Belt). Since I returned on April 5, 2004, I have lost 33.4 pounds and will lose 29.6 more, putting me at 165 pounds. I did powerlifting for several months and I have found the strength gained beneficial. I recently started training in Giron Arnis Escrima under Guro David Hines and am loving it. Other arts I intend to seriously pursue: Kyokushin Karate Muay Thai Boxing Some kind of stand up grappling art Some kind of ground grappling art Yeah, I'm a stand up/striking kind of guy, heh heh. I am always willing to learn pretty much anything I have the opportunity to learn. Looking forward to learning a lot here! Tang Soo!

Tang Soo Do Practioners?
Mu Ryuk replied to Disciple's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
6th Gup from Monterey, California. Hyungs: Gichu Hyung Il Bu Gichu Hyung Il Bu Sum Gup Gichu Hyung E Bu Gichu Hyung E Bu Sum Gup Gichu Hyung Sam Bu Pyung-Ahn Cho Dan Pyung-Ahn E Dan Pyung-Ahn Sam Dan Pyung-Ahn Sah Dan Pyung-Ahn O Dan Bassai, form of the Cobra. Nahachi Cho Dan Nahachi E Dan Nahachi Sam Dan Jin Do I'm not sure past that...our Instructor knows everything up to (I believe) 6th Dan, but has to drive about 12 hours to test, so is still a Cho Dan. We're trying to talk him into testing though Mr.Durney (Head Instructor) concentrates more on kicking, but in Mr.Beeson's classes we get to do a lot of Boxing-like drills, so we get our hand work in. Mr.Rienecker is a technique freak, which is a great thing to do once a week or so. I think in some ways we are a bit McDojoish, but our prices are more than reasonable ( $65.00 a month for as many classes as you want to take) and while the kids classes could be more serious our students are (most of them anyway) quite good, and the adult class is quite good. While Mr.Durney and Mr.Beeson are both quite good at point sparring, our school is better known for our Forms in tournaments. Tang Soo! -
