It sounds like you all have awesome pets and names to go with them.. Never have meet a animal I didn't like! The only problem I have with my dogs is everytime I try and practice a kata in my house, they think it's game and fun time, bring me their balls and chew toys. Guess I'm going to have to think of a kata against my playfull dogs?

Thanks. There's a story behind the name Pretzel though. The Norweigan Elkhound was name Bryna (pronounced Bear-Na, which is supposedly Norweigan for "bear hunter" but I'm not sure if that's true). Anyways, my dad would always call Bryna something other than her name (his favorite was "beer nuts"). So when they got Pretzel as a puppy he decided to name her Pretzel because of "Beer Nuts" & "Pretzels". And you're right about how amazing the bond that a kid and dog have, and it can is amazing how loving dogs can be towards humans. Have you all heard about the dog that saved a guy's life? (well there are many but this one is amazing and I don't know how many of you have heard it) There was a guy with a yellow lab and the man was having health problems and the doctors couldn't really figure it out. Well the dog would continually sniff at the right ear of the man whenever the dog had a chance. The man mentioned something about that to his doctor and they did a scan of his head (don't remember if it was a CT or MRI) and there was a tumor growing in the right side of the head. It turns out dogs can smell tumors. There's a man (I don't remember where he lives but he was featured in this story on the news too) who is taking dogs from the pound (so they don't kill the unclaimed dogs) and training them to smell certain things so they can later help humans. One of the things they were smelling was tumors, but there were so much more. It's amazing how dogs can save lives without even knowing it. That's a very cool story how your dog got it's name. I've heard many stories about dogs finding tumors and growths that Docs can't find. There smell is so far beyond people. I live in NM and at the check points coming back feom Mexico, they have many dogs mix and pure breed dogs that they use to find drugs coming into the states, I think their record is 100%. We also have search and rescue dogs here. They notning short of awesome!

I think the stance you are talking about would be the zenkusu dachi. It helps to have your grounded foot at an angle while you go for the mawashi geri. This helps you pivot better towards your target . Like others have said you also need to use your hips also while doing this kick.

Hi Zapatisa, my mice were pets, (had some rats too). Sounds like you had a very protective and loving dog when you were younger, it's amazing the bond that a kid and dog has. Your right Elkhounds are a very pretty breed. Don't feel too bad after you are done with school you can make up the lost time for not having a dog. BTW, very cool name (Pretzel) for a dog!

which weapon to learn befor 3 section staff
Leopard claw replied to tkdkid39's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Start with the bo first and learn how to do a figure eight, this will help you later with the three sectional staff and the nunchaku. There is a good video/dvd by Black Belt magazine video with Eric Lee. It will help you out with proper gripping, footwork, stances, maneuvering and fighting techniques. It's not an easy weapon to lean, it bites back hard! -
Stories from the dojo...
Leopard claw replied to lordtariel's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
On Halloween we had two kids (not students) come in the dojo wearing nija costumes, one even had a plastic katana. Needless to say they were asked to leave as the whole class couldn't stop laughing. I don't even think it was a full moon. -
Defending Against Being Attacked By a Piece of Fresh Fruit
Leopard claw replied to Sohan's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
There was this guy that came to our dojo about seven months ago, kinda of a braggart who had a prosthetic arm. He told our sensei and the class that he had beat up two guys with it after he took it off. The guy only lasted one class. Mmmmmmmm, I wonder why? -
Playing with Ki/Chi Balls
Leopard claw replied to Soo Min's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sounds more like a George Dillman thing to me. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that TV show where Dillman tried and couldn't knock out the two scientist with ki balls or ki power. -
I've got two Doberman Pinschers. Have had Dobies since I was 12.

Yo momma so fat, she eats Weat Thicks. Yo momma so fat, she goes to the beach and people yell Free Willy. Yo momma so fat, she puts lipstick on with a paint-roller. Yo momma so fat, I had to take a train and two buses to get on her good side. Yo momma so fat, she has more chins than a Hong Kong phone book.

Does anyone know the Japanese name for leopard hand thurst..
Leopard claw replied to Leopard claw's topic in Karate
We do it in our Shorei-ryu dojo, along with other animal styles. The leopard hand, fist, thrust is called hyou tsuki, very close to the hiraken tsuki. There is also a black panther hand, fist, thrust called kuro hyou tsuki. From your pic it looks like you are doing hiraken tsuki (extended kuckle thrust), a very effective strike to the throat . In Chinese it's called Bao Chui or Bao Xing, can't remember which one! I think the tiger is called Hu Xing? Know if I can just find out how to post pics........GRIN! -

Zaine said...Leopard claw is a kung Fu mainly, why do you want to know the Japanese name for it? Leopard claw in not just a Kunf fu style, we study many styles in our dojo. Tiger claw, crane hand, dragon fist, snake hand and shurei fist. Not to mention the moves of the animals. To know is knowledge! Thank you Tommy_P for your input on the hiraken tsuki, the extended knuckles thrust. The leopard claw seems to have more tearing, ripping and grabs to it. Thanks to all. LC! -

Leopard claw replied to Leopard claw's topic in Karate
Yes there is. Palm flat, four fingers curled back (like you are knocking on a door) thumb is curled to the side. From what I have so-far found out it;s called hyoute tsuki. The leopard is just one of the animal styles we study. -
or leopard claw, fist? I know the tiger hand thrust is torate tsuki. Thanks for any help pn this......

Try doing tsuru dachi (crane stance) with your eyes closed. Hold the stance for about a minute then switch to the othe foot. When you can do this for one minute each foot, go for longer amounts of time.
