I found the guitar one of the easiest instruments to learn to play, but one of the harder ones to learn to play well. Years ago I played guitar in a couple of bands. Now I'm teaching my daughter. I also play harmonica (somewhat). I play the radio all the time.

Leaving on a Jet Plane...
Kicks replied to Mu Ryuk's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I once took my son and daughter to San Antonio to compete in Nationals. She got hooked (no pun intended) on those darn crane machines. Everywhere we went she wanted coins to drop in those machines, but she never got anything. Then once she asked again and I told her "Look, let's just take this dollar back to the hotel and flush it down the toilet. You stand a better chance of getting a stuffed animal from there then from these machines!" She laughed and laughed and that became a running joke the whole trip. -

that's funny Well, we know Mu Ryuk has something to sing about. When the next tournament anybody else is competing in? There are two in my area coming up this fall. One in October, and my dojang's tournament on Nov 13 (I run the brackets for our tournaments). I don't know if I'll be competing in any, but I'll let you know if I do. -

Congrats on your success! But next time, don't leave the decision up to the judges. DOMINATE! -
I'm not a point sparrer (spl?), but I always thought that the advantage went to the first hit, so it was better to be a quick attacker, not counter attacker. One of my friends has a daughter who excells in her point sparring school and he tells me that the style enforces the 'sucker punch' or kick. Any discussion on this?

A bit of trivia: Leaving on a Jet Plane was written by John Denver, which became a big hit when recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1967. Denver was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr on December 31, 1943. -

Hurricane Frances - Florida members: Good luck, take care.

I hate shadow boxing, I always lose. If you have a partner try this. In a dark room face a wall with your partner behind you. He blinks a flashlight on the wall to one of several targets; lower left, middle left, upper left, above head, upper right, middle right, or lower right. You set a predetermined technique to throw for each location. For example, he flashes to the lower right, so you do a front kick to an imaginary knee. A flash to the upper left could be a left hand block followed by a right cross; upper right could be a roundhouse kick, etc. Increase the frequecy of flashes as you get better reaction times.

To all our Florida members, Good luck making it through Hurricane Frances this week. I wish you the best and will pray for you. I live in the New Orleans and lived through Betsy, Camile, Andrew and many more. I know it's going to be very nerve-wrecking for you. My advice... GET OUT! Sincerely, Kicks
