Yeah, that'd be a pretty good meal for a mid-morning snack. The most important times to get protein are when you wake up and when you go to sleep. Technically for an athletic schedule you should take in protein every meal (.8 seems a little low to me, 1 to 1.5 is more of an active persons range). Some other examples might be a large chicken breast with 1 serving of fruit, milk to drink 2 pieces grilled salmon on a salad with a sports drink But you don't have to get protein all the time - I love vietnamese food and I constantly eat pho and egg roll vermicelli, neither of which are particularly high in protein but fairly health especially in terms of vegetables.

Frog Style
Hudson replied to aefibird's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Frog style is probably one of those rare sets like Scorpion style. Although I can't imagine what it'd be like. Do you have any links? -
I know a bit. Most drunken fighting is a single set within a particular school, like Drunken Mantis etc;. Theres a school that teaches an Lau Family Eight Immortals style, see their page at https://www.joybotsin.com I think CLF has a drunken form as well. There are several schools in China which can teach you a drunken set, the more popular sets being drunken straight sword, drunken staff, and drunken fist. Of course there is also Drunken 5 animals, drunken monkey, drunken tiger, drunken snake, etc;, and some more exotic weapon sets like drunken spear and whip. Most of them are very rare and the performance of the sets is very intense. Oh, and you fall alot. In almost every drunken set I've seen, you fall from a normal position. There are also two main movements in drunken sets, asking for more wine and taking a drink.

Is it like Bujinkan Ninpo? I don't know anything about it. I didn't even know ninjas were real - I assumed most of the work they were supposdly famous for would be done by samurai or shogun.

Yeah, usually it happens pretty quickly, as in one moment you see the object about to hit you (In my case, I didn't, because it was behind me) and the next, you're slowly coming to your senses, your head hurts, and in my case, your hearing and sight may act funny for a minute or two until you come to. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? It was like my sight and hearing were on the fritz - for lack of a better description.

What do you do on Sunday? And could you please further explain what you mean by lift weights? What exercises and such? Other than that, it sounds like your gonna spend an hour or two a day training your fitness - that's enough to get in shape.

Exactly what I was getting at

Food: Chicken or tuna. Drink: Eggwhites, banana, peanut butter, milk, blended together. Supplement: Whey protein shakes, particularly the Isopure Zero-Carb Vanilla. For rapid "mass" gain, the Weider Mega-X000 series.

Theres probably certain ulterior motives to wearing a cup outside of MA that some men would have.

Kicks above the waist in a real fight?
Hudson replied to longarm25's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah, a few years back I was in a tournament and I threw high kicks (Not even with intent to hit) just to scare em - but a kick to the head is rediculously dangerous and powerful. I have never seen anyone punch as hard as they kick (Never), and I wouldn't risk it for the safety of both people in a tournament. Unless for some reason they start using WWE moves.... then it'd be straight out funny, and mean. -
Yeah... unless you smack this dogs nose at the correct degree with tremendous force (said Jackhammer), theres no way you can drive a bone into his brain. That's like uppercutting a human jawbone into the brain.

Good mornings get a bad rap especially in the MA community because they're the ones that Bruce Lee severely injured himself with. But doing them without weight (Like abdominal crunches) is perfectly fine. Besides, they say that Bruce was doing them with 135 on the bar with no warm up sets.

Most efficient? Somewhere with mirrors and a teacher (Like a gwoon) so I can get proper critique.

That's correct about A, D, E, and K, as they are fat soluble vitamins, unlike the water soluble vitamins that you need to take in daily.

Sounds like you're looking at a full size katana. The blade bent at 90 degrees? That sounds like an awfully shoddy sword as well. I don't know exactly what they use at tournaments, but there are some good prices on forged steel katana around, Google is probably a good place to start your search.

The Dirty "W" Word

Oi, street fight this street fight that - I guess I just feel that there is something to be learned even from Wushu. -

Ok, so shorten the stances, bring the arms in a little tighter, what do you have? The same hipwork, the same principals, the same stances, same techniques, in an artistic form. I mean, the first thing I learned about wushu is that it means "war/martial art", which is the term applied to all CMAs. And it makes sense - you have the martial side, and you have an art side. Or is having an art side too uneffective and not hardcore enough? -
Yeah, hills are kind of tricky. But 1.5 miles isn't an awfully long distance, but its plenty to work up good stamina. Remember that distance isn't your only measurement - get a stopwatch, and run faster each day. If you can improve by a tenth of a second every day, for one year, that's quite an improvement. Not to mention your heart will be working better, your cardiovascular system cleaner and more efficient - cardio is the best thing in the world for you.

Firstly, understand that gaining quality muscle and keeping fit is hard, is not an overnight process, and lots of people won't understand why you put so much effort into things like that. But it's well worth it, a good physique shown to be key to longevity and overall health, and will only ever help with MA training. The first rule you need to set up is "I will eat, eat, and then eat some more." To gain muscle, you'll need to take in lots of protein, but overall you need to take in more calories then you use. If you're skinny body fat shouldn't be a real problem with you "bulking" as you'll hear it called, which just means gaining muscle mass. You'll want to take in protein every few hours to be safe, totalling at LEAST 1g per lean pound of body weight (Current weight minus weight from body fat), ideally you could take in anywhere from 300-400g of protein. A great way to get that protein, although not necessary, is to drink protein shakes. You can make your own or buy the powder, or even drink the pre-made stuff. I personally use a lot of liquid egg whites (Your grocer should carry them) in everything I drink (Including plain glasses of milk, juice, you can even drink a glass of egg whites alone, it's like a safe way of being like Rocky). They don't have an overpowering taste (I can't taste them at all) and they're not gooey or sticky. As far as protein in solid food (You'll want that!), chicken and tuna are the leaders. They're both relatively cheap meats that pack lots of protein. Other fish are also good, so if you want to be fancy and eat lots of grouper or what have you, that's fine. Turkey tends to be a little less nutritious, but the last option is hamburger. Hamburger is usually fatty and not a great source of protein. But that doesn't mean you should be a carnivore, eating pasta and bread (Not the white stuff) will do you good as well. And so will your fruits and vegetables! They have essential nutrients your body needs, so don't slack off on them. That's pretty much it for nutrition, which will be about 75% of the deciding factor on how you gain muscle. Next comes working out. I'm not going to get into that, if you want a good beginner routine you can look it up through my profile in posts I've made, it was for another person looking for a good starting routine. I might edit it into this post if I find it myself. Just make sure you train with full intensity, never cheat on an exercise, don't use too much weight (You aren't gonna impress with a beginners bench press anyway), and don't train every day (At least not with the routine I suggest) Lastly, you need to sleep. Get plenty of sleep. You don't grow when you're awake, you grow when you're asleep. I'm talking 8-10 hours if not more. So, as a little review: Priority one. Eat Big. Eat alot, eat at least 6 small meals a day (The big 3 meals are out - split them up.), take in lots of calories, train HARD, get a good overall routine, and sleep well. EDIT: The post was too large to c/p (At least to keep this thread tidy), so heres a direct link. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=206813&highlight=#206813

I take a one-tablet multi-vitamin (Because I refuse to take 9 tablets daily, as some vitamins will ask of you), I drink a lot of pasteurized liqued egg whites (no taste, good cholesterol, protein), and when I'm bulking I'll take increased calorie whey protein shakes. But I try to get a lot of things naturally out of my diet, without relying on miracle pills. Lately, however, I've been experimenting with energy drinks. Still not a fan of them.

Good point - spinal erectors are just as important - you can work these by doing deadlifts or good mornings.

The Dirty "W" Word
Hudson replied to Hudson's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I assume, now, you're talking about contemporary sport wushu. But wouldn't a wushu set, like any other set or form, be able to be broken down into segments and individual moves for practicality?
