  2. Me neither...
  3. I didn't understand...
  4. His name is Miguel Gobe... Did someone already heard this name?
  5. I was talking to a friend that already practiced karate with my sensei, and he told me that one day, he learned how to throw a person several feets of distance with just one punch!! He said that my sensei throwed him 29 feets of distance (about 9 meters)!! And the punch don't hurt you... He told me that he throwed a guy 8 feets of distance... Did someone already did it?
  6. Did he already made you rip a paper of a newspaper with a punch?? But the paper musn't be holded by someone in both sides of it... Just in one side... In other words, it must be hanged up... It looks impossible, but, after many tries, I riped it... Try it... It's good to train your punch...
  7. Hi... I practice Shotokan Karate, but I don't use a Gi (or kimono, whatever) and my sensei never commented with me in wich belt I am... So, I want to know when you guys learned the Empi's (I'm not talking about the kata)... Just to me to have an ideia in wich belt I am ought to be...
  8. 1-No... It's always fun to practice with your friends... 2-I prefer to do this with my instructor watching, since I'm no perfect 3-I would like, but there no way... 4-No... I think that it can distract me... 5-I prefer to practice anywhere where anyone who don't practice karate is 6-I practice in a stoned stone floor... It's pretty cold... 7-Just sneakers... 8-I don't breathe in exact time, since I'm a begginer, so for me it doesn't matter to hear my breathe, but I prefer to train in a quiet place... 9-I've already read somethings about karate and Master Funakoshi, but not so much... 10-... Not exactly... I just do it by how I've learned...
  9. Hum... I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait some time until it desappear... My karate sensei already hitted (in don't know how to write it in the past (I'm brazilian)) me in some pressure points, and the same thing happened... Yellow and purple bruises... (But it didn't hurt) So... You'll have to wait... There is nothing you can do...
  10. I guess you two are right... It takes some time to be understood, or else we wouldn't have to train som much time... Thanks!
  11. Epa!! Mais um brasileiro na área!! Então, tirando os golpes, o Wing Chun não é muito diferente do karate... Mas os golpes de karate são mais de longa distâncias...
  12. Hello everybody... I'm a karate student and I started training karate 3 months ago. One of the motives that I wanted to start practising MA was because of the "philosofy" of the MA... I was always wanted to practise some kind of MA mainly because of the techniques, so I always searched a lot about any kind of MA, and as a part of all this search, I've already found lots of masters proverbs, (that I supperficialy agreed) and estimulated me more to begin to train... But after these 3 months I feel like I learned almost nothing about the philosofy of karate... My master teachs me a lot about it, and I agree with this way of think, but it's seems to be just superficially... I feel like I don't want to think about the mental meaning of my MA... One example... One day, my sensei told me to enter in certain web site and read the Dojo Kun of karate... I read it, once or twice, and then one other day, when I was trying to do one thing, one of my friends feinted me (just for fun and make me lose my balance), and then I said "You are not following the Dojo Kun, that says that you have to Repress the agressive spirit" (just to make a little fun also, and that was the only teachong that I had remembered), and then my sensei started to say some of the teachings of Dojo Kun in japanese (that was written in that website also), and I understood nothing (I told him that I didn't understand) and I felt myself completely embarassed about that situation... It make me thing about how seriously I was treating the karate and it's philosofy. (But again, I didn't thought much about that, and even tried to read the rest of the Dojo Kun...) Now I want to know... What do you guys do to follow the philosofy of your MA and all that stuff??
  13. I pay $25 for month... 1 hour of class, but now during my vacation it's 1,5 hours... (don't know why)
  14. First of all, I know that asking such a thing is not right, since the effectiveness of the MA depends on who is fighting and all the styles don't have the same goal (thats why I want your opinion)... Well... I choose karate because it was the only MA available in the region where I live, but after some time practising karate, I perceived that it was "the best" MA to study (for self defense I mean). On karate, you want to end the fight as soon as possible hitting the opponents with powerful punches/kicks(surely without losing the velocity of it), and giving the less hits as possible. After training for some few months, this way of thinking looks very resonable for me. Why did you chose your style?
  15. :S What a shame!! Selling such a wonderful sword (I mean the katana by itself, not that piece of twisted metal) in a TV program is idiot. That was an ornamental katana (very cheap, obvipusly), and just an idiot would use that to hit something. You can buy a katana on the internet, sure, but it must be of good quality.... Actually, the good quality of a real katana is (at least for me) one of the main characteristcs of the katana. But if you want to have a a katana to train seriously, it must be done by an japanese artisan. Sometimes, when I hear a group of people talking about MA stuff and all that thing "Wow!! Kung Fu is blah blah blah... And I know know what more... And that sword is amazing..." I just can't stand hearing it... Hear that people saying just idiot things about that without any kind of knowlegde about that... :S It's a pity...
  16. Hehe... I don't do diets... I did just once because of what seemed to be a silly fear... I always eat lots of things, like cookies, cakes and averything that make you gain wheight, but I excercise a lot. Since I started training karate, I grew up a lot (not because of the karate, sure), but I mantained the same weight. Well... I don't know what kind of measure system you guys are used to use, so I'll put in my measure system... If you want me to put in your system (which I don't know), just say it and I'll try to convert... I have 1,75 meters and 69 Kg (which I mantained since I started training karate) According to a math expression, I have the correct weight for my height, despite I'm not in shape (but just my belly is not in shape (what doesn't mean that I don't have a strong ab, because I always keep training it... My arms, my legs and all the rest of my body is well trained). I don't think that is difficult to stop eating junk food and this kind of stuff and begin to train. When I wasn't a karate student, I stoped to eat all this non-healtly food and started training my body (but not karate), and in 2 weeks I lost 3 Kg. And now that I'm training karate, I'm much better.
  17. I just learned Taykioko. But I don't thing that I'll forget the katas...
  19. Sure I'll keep training. Since I started training, I'm felling much better and stronger (In the physical and mental meaning)
  20. I hope I don't have have any problems to memorize the katas...
