motivation for starting martial arts
Rotten Head Fok replied to kle1n's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My intial motivators where Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and Jackie Chan. The reason I got involved was that of becoming a Teacher. I don't like to fight, I do like to play rough with other MA's and use the techniques, applied science and strategy to defeat my opponent. It's fun when it all come together, the timing, the strike or block, the footwork! -
Personal training in uniforms
Rotten Head Fok replied to Kaos666's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think anywhere, place or time you can devote to training is necessary, do what you can. The Gi I would leave home, grab some sweats or something comfortable. I have yet to hear of anyone learning an art by watching another person work out in a public place. If it was that easy I could have saved my-self alot of money. Keep training and don't forget your school grades ! -
I think that if Rangers are an option in you, they will teach you self-defence. I know many a Ranger from Ft. Luis, WA. Go ARMY!

I'll be happy if I master Choy-Li-Fut, with 138+ forms I highly doubt it, but I can dream... I would like to be comfortable in CLF, Yang Style TCC, and I-chuan Chi Gong.

Rotten Head Fok replied to plainwhitets's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I study CLF which has it's origins from both Northern & Southern Shaolin Temples. I like it, it has everything an art could want in general terms. -

1978, 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture! Best Directer: Micheal Cimino Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Walken this critically-acclaimed, extraordinarily powerful film tracks a group of steelworker pals from Pennsylvania blast furnace to the cool hunting grounds of the Alleghenies to the lethal cauldron of Vietnam. Robert De Nero gives an outstanding performance as Michael, the natural leader of the group. A serious drama of friendship and courage-and whathappens to these qualities under hardship. It is a shattering emotional experience you will never forget. Have you figured it out ? .............The Deer Hunter!

Boxing strategies
Rotten Head Fok replied to JLee's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Your welcome Jlee, your running is great, since you've just started, be patient, train as hard as you want (and can) seek out professional boxer's, literature on boxing (research the author(s)) and look at your progress in terms of 1 year, 2 years, etc...I believe that if you truly train hard you will be very happy in 3 to 4 years in your boxing abilities. -
Coco, hello. There is a reason 9th graders get "picked-on" and it's something none of us here can or should try to help you with; welcome to life my friend. Dial 1-800-back bone ( no offence intended).

Boxing strategies
Rotten Head Fok replied to JLee's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Did you just start boxing ? Do you have an instuctor other than your father ? Work on your endurance;aerobics. Work on a speed bag for eye-hand coordination. Run a string-line for bobbing and wieving. Have your father use some striking mitt's for target practice. I don't know much about boxing, but others here will add more. Good luck, train hard and you will get better! -
I just saw the ad on television, looks good, Jet Li in "HERO"! I also saw another movie, "Alien vs. Predator" ! Maybe I'll learn some more alien techniques like launching my teeth out from sckull to remove my opponents larynx; it's a good technique and really freaks out an opponent.

whitedragond, I use pine doweling most of the time for practice. I like nylon rope, chain rips your armpit hair out (ouch). I've made acrilic, oak, teak, pine, aluminum; Pine is the easiest matrial to work with. Just drill center holes and two side holes for the rope and your set. Once you get the concept the rest is just imagination. Experiment with different wieght, length, material, chain or rope, and you will get a comfort level which will only make you better (advanced practitioners). You can make yourself a variety, hard&heavy for damage, light for speed, whatever......

Do you practice combative martial arts?
Rotten Head Fok replied to delta1's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think I am learning how to fight. I don't practice as much as should be done, but i try to be aware of my suroundings and how to de-exalate a possible fight. I do not train with other stylist, only because of my location. Yes, I train with force, with the intent of doing damage. I think this is very necessary in training as real fights are no joke. The style I've chose to study was created to use in combat, research will prove that, as will many of it's members. Why did I choose Choy-Li-Fut ?, I wanted to become a teacher and it was the only school around that tought "Kung-Fu" (my idols being BL,DK,CN,) -
This is another style new to me, I will look into the site provided(thanks LB) and get back. I am curious as to what their definition of extreme is.
