Karate Kid
Zorba replied to Joecooke007's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
yeh, the box set of 3 movies on 2 dvds. i want badly. what did you think of "the next karate kid" now that was crap. I loved the karate kid movies tho. but daniel san became daniel fat in the last one, and they used a previous characters name "johnny" which you shouldnt really do. as for the best one. 1 and 2 are about even. i cant help singing "your the best in town" whenever i think about point sparring. fantastic -

check out jet li's "Shaolin Temple" from 1979. that has some seriously good weopon work. tho i dont think they actually fight with them. 2 swords in each hand huh. now that would be impressive. -
How long did it take for your black belt
Zorba replied to Topic's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I took 5 years to get my black, however, i could have gone for it after 2 - 2.5. the reason i didnt was that there was a minimum number of certain types of training you had to do to qualify. I hadnt qualified, even tho i had the skill, i could not test. by the time i qualified i was in the middle of my SACE the equivilant of the S.A.T in the US. when i finished that i took some time off then went for it. passed with flying colours. Be on the look out for my article when it finally gets published for the full story. -

Tae Kwon Do vs Karate.
Zorba replied to Jerome's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
TKD is actually a derivitive of shotokan karate. I have studied both (TKD) first and it is quite easy to see this. However, tkd was adapted for the situation of its practitioners, ie, they were attacked by soldiers on horses, so they included a lot of high kicking to combat them. There are a few kicks in shotokan, however, if you look at the kata's and the majority of the ipon kumite, bunkai and kihon. its is more like 75 /25 not 50/50. If it is at all possible. do both. if you find that you enjoy one more than the other, stick with it. if not, theres no harm in doing more than one style. -
What is the best Martial Art for you and why?
Zorba replied to Spielwurfel's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There is no such thing as "the best martial art" I also dont beleive in the line "its the best martial art for me" All types of people can be successful in all kinds of martial arts. I have studied 2 martial arts, and i will probably do a lot more. all martial arts were developed for a reason, not a person. and it was the best method for the reason it was created for at the time. so, unless your situation mimmicks the reason for the creation of the martial art. its not the best, its not the worst, its just one of many. -
i got the bridge one in about 5 minutes havent done the others, will look at them at lunch

Comics made into movies

spawn, blade (i think), the phantom, there are heaps more that i cant think of at the moment -
spinning jump kick: Which one? basically, jump as high as you can, and start spinning as you near the apex of the jump, rather than as you take off. side kick: er...... bring your knee up, push your foot out, and pivot your grounded foot at the toe for extra thrust.

if you want to learn that type of stuff, find yourself a breakdancing school, they will teach you the same kind of thing, but in more detail.
-
I have generally called this a back flick. that is what they called it in breakdancing. most people think you have to flick your body forward, but you actually want to get as much height as you can. they way they taught it was to get you to flick up, then they would use a towel to grab you feet and they rip your body forward. felt quite weird actuall. i still cant do it tho, probably to fat.

There was a white tiger club at a tournament i was in at the end of may (australia). They got warned for misconduct by one of the refs (the whole club, not just one fighter). they looked pretty mcdojoish. i think with a name like "white tiger", it sounds a bit dodgy.

check out https://www.aacd.info to see the sylabus for our club.

mine is kinda like real loud SEYAH or something. not many people do it at my club, and most that do really dont do it from the gut, they just say it. we had a couple that would actually say "KIAI".

Name comes via lineage and historical connection, not via content. Kenpo is an American martial art, not karate. All karate is Okinawan-related and has lineage connections to Okinawa. Or is Krav Maga karate because it has a similar content? No, I didn't think so, either. It's Krav Maga - due to its history and lineage. exactly. TKD has puches and kicks and forms to, does that make it a form of karate? there are a lot of people that use karate as a general term for martial arts. I remember back when i was doing tkd and i told people, they would say "What?" , then i say "its like karate" and they go "oh okay"

Twice i have been asked to do breaking demo's for my old tae kwon do club and both times it was a flying side kick over 3 crouched people (about my waist hieght) one time i broke thru the wood presented to me and knock over 2 of the 4 people that were holding it (2 holding the wood, 1 holding each person)

coding a site for IE is going to be a lot easier to do than coding it for othe or all browsers. plus if you do code it for a non ie browsers you will alienate 90% Of the internet users.

markusan. thats exactly correct. when i was doing tkd, and the instructor would put lower grades against me, he would warn them that if they went hard, i would go hard back, and would give me permission to do so. when sparring with a senior or black belt. work with them to improve, dont just rush in to try and beat them, cos you wont.
