ok i found out what my club is : ... our club is caled Shen Hsing Tao ( which i think means mind body spirit ) the club doesnt concentrate on one set style we hav adopted all styles and a syllabus was writing for our federation in the early 60s i tihnk. i was speaking to my teacher and he said ' we use many styles ... some parts are judo, some kung fu , tai chi chaun, ba qua, jujitsu, taekwondo' i was like .. WAH!?!? im really learnin that many things ?!?! and this is why i figure i got my orange in 3 months .. the lower belts are easily achieved to keep people interested and most ppl in my area are lazy ppl who need encouragment. but i know its going to be a lot harder to get my green and so on -

Legion replied to Legion's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
wow thx guys .. not sure who said it but yes we do basic applications to remember the form which is fun because i get to train with guys that are a lot bigger than me ... in our tai chi we're learnin the form that has been simplified for western use , im learning the first 13 moves at the minute and thats been for about 1 or 2 months... its all fun and i do my personal best to learn as much as i can without sufferin with too much concentration -
im not advanced enough for weapons yet lol

the club i go to hasnt been running long but a book would be a good idea ... atm the main proffesional advice we get is monthly from a visiting master

How long ... ?
Legion replied to Legion's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
im not sure about the kung fu style but my tai chi is tai chi chaun by master chen man ching ... the reason i got my orange so fast was because i took kung fu when i was 12 and could still remember all the stuff .. it was just applying it all and nope not been in a 'real' street fight yet .. although one guy jumped me once .. got rid of him then realised he had about 20 freinds with him .. age old fasion of run away came in handy on that night -
how long would it take for me to be able to defend my self successfully ? im 16 and attend upto 3 weekly classes in kung fu and tai chi chaun does it take years? .. months? im into my 3rd month of MAs Orange belt in kung fu ( see below )

Legion replied to daeinwolf's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
hey im in a club called 'shen hsing tao' we practice tai chi chaun, kung fu and ba qua. i was told that ba qua can be used to strengthen our bodies and improve our balance ... everything we do comes together and helps the other arts ... is this a good way to learn ?
