Crescent Kicks
SuperMinh replied to SuperMinh's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Hmm i think hook kick and crescent kicks are different things Kickbutt. The hook kick is like a roundhouse kick but "the other way round" if i'm not mistaken... So the part of your foot making contact in a hook kick is either the ball of your foot or the heel. You're usually aiming for the side of the head and your toes are pointing to your side. The crescent kick on the other hand, has your toes pointing upwards towards the ceiling. -
Try the jab, cross, hook, spinning side kick...

Crescent Kicks
SuperMinh replied to SuperMinh's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Yep, the crescent kick i was talking about was the "inside to outside" kick where you usually hit the opponent's head or guard with the side of your foot. The axe kick is the one where you slam your heel back down to his head/shoulder... -

Do you mean that martial arts aren't taken seriously ? I didn't understand what you meant there... Anyway, my opinion is that whatever people think, do whatever you think is good for you. I didn't spend half my life learning martial arts so that people would respect me and stuff (you know the kinda "woo don't touch that guy man, he's bad, he's a kung fu black belt :uhoh:"). If i am into kickboxing now, it's because i think it's was the best thing to learn after the years spent in learning kung fu. Now, if people take that seriously or not, whatever... Reminds me of a girl a know who's doing tae bo to keep fit. I've heard some guys taking the piss out if tae bo but when they met her, they all agreed about how fit she was... Well, it's probably not the best example i could have used but as someone said, people are often afraid of what they don't know and taking the piss of it helps them feel secure about it. Just some thoughts... SuperMinh -

I'm new on these boards and i didn't see there was a special one for introducing myself... Well, not much to say, I'm from France but studying in the UK, my martial arts background is a couple of years of kung fu (wushu), karate (shotokan) and kickboxing... That's about it really, talk to you soon on the boards SuperMinh

Thai Boxing
SuperMinh replied to babysteffee's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Just a little note, as Havoc said before, there's not much difference between kickboxing, thai boxing, full contact, etc... Basically, it's more or less only the rules that change: In kickboxing, punches have to be above the waist but kicks can be aimed at the thighs. The style which doesn't allow kicks to the legs is full-contact. However, many kicboxing clubs use full-contact rules. Thai boxing on the other hand involves everything, knees, elbows, low kicks, etc... That's it i think. -
Hi Babystefee, as people said before, a sidekick is meant to make contact with the outer part of your foot (aka the blade) or the heel. I can't figure how you can do a sidekick with your toes pointing upwards ... Anyway, practice it and it'll be one of your most reliable and powerful kick. The way you can do it is: -chamber the kick: lift your knee in front of you -rotate it to your side so that if you're kicking with right leg, your right side's facing your opponent (that's why it's called a side kick ain't it ?) -extend the leg. your toes should be pointing left if you're kicking with your right leg. Hope that helps...

a bit lost...
SuperMinh replied to babysteffee's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
All kicks are harder to see when you chamber the knee as if you wanted to do a front kick, i.e. straight up instead of on the side. If you chamber your kick on your side, there's more chance your opponent will see it coming and do something about it. If you chamber it straight in front of you and then turn it into a round kick, either he'll have less chance to see it, or if he sees it, he'll think it's a front kick and won't be prepared for a roundhouse... -
Hey everyone, i've got a question for you people sparring out there. What do you think about the crescent kicks in sparring ? You know, the one going from inside to outside aiming at your opponent's head/guard. Do you use it when you spar ? I personaly find it a bit too risky as it's relatively easy for your opponent to make you lose your balance on this. Just ducking and moving forward on you and you find yourself on the floor... On the other hand, some people've told me that it was a very good move to push/keep your opponent away. I don't know , what do you think ?

spinning back fist
SuperMinh replied to Prodigy-Child's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Hey everyone, pretty cool message boards you guys have here, thought i might come along for a chat... Getting back to the spinning backfist, it's not really a move i like cos it leaves you too "open" for a counter. Besides, it's quite easy to jam as it takes more time to execute than say a jab or a cross: opponent spins, you move forward and catch him with a cross before he's done anything. Well, that's about it i think. It's good to practice the it on the bags and slapping pads though. Might need it someday, you never know...
