I say money because there is still SOOOO much in this world I want to see... and the biggest reason I am not out there seeing it is because of the lack of money.

Just curious if anyone is on Xbox Live? I just bought an Xbox and I have Project Gotham Racing 2, and Mech Assault for Live Enabled games. Anyways, if any of you guys have it, feel free to add me to your friends list. My gamertag is Dijita (suprise, suprise).

Its not easy... you're bagged... heck you're probably bagged after the first 3 fights. Then you're fighting fresh fighters every fight. You can see in the students eyes that this was no easy task. After getting kicked in the head hard enough to make you wobbly I'm sure it was very hard to focus after that point. I'm assuming its quiet a painful and tireing ordeal... but I'm sure that once all is said and done you feel preety darn good about accomplishing it. My sempai is doing 30 fights in October for his 3rd Dan. I wish so badly I could be there to watch. He's such a magnificent fighter.

I love it, I'll be doing it for life A lot of hard work with good outcomes though. You'll meet amazing people, and you'll realize that you can go almost anywhere in the world and still have a family there.

Do you practice combative martial arts?
Dijita replied to delta1's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Kyokushin is a fighting art. We put a lot of emphasis on reaction and the importance of making our reactions inate and effective. -
This weekand while I was at our Kyokushin summer camp, there were 10 1st Kyu students doing the final part for their Shodan testing (It's like an 8 month process). The final part of their testing was the 10 man Kumite (For each dan you have to fight 10 more). All I can say is WOW! There was one person from our dojo testing as well. It was actually quiet emotional. These people fought so hard and a lot of them took sooo much pain. The one guy from our dojo almost got knocked out when he got kicked in the head. He stood back up though and kept fighting. I was actually almost in tears myself when the student in our dojo then had to fight our Sempai. It was just something that seemed very symbolic about it... student fighting teacher. I dunno if that makes sense, but it was very inspirational. Everyone completed their 10 man and received their belts. It was a really great experience.

Shape has more than just the exercise. Perhaps a practitioner is in a good school with a good fitness regime, but than they go home and eat junk food day in and day out. They can exercise their heart out, but nothing is going to omit the fact that they poison their system with the food they eat.
-
I think its just that more of North America is just getting out of shape. Its not a myth its a fact, people are just getting fat because they're eating crap and not exercising as much as before.

Keep practicing your combos until they are innate. Try to focus on good quality combos vs quanity. A lot of people I noticed in clicker tournements tend to go through a routine but not really attempt to block the opponents attacks. Its difficult to be aware of since you are not actually being hit. So, as a result I suggest training with a partner as much as you can so that you are practicing your blocking as well as attacks. I hope this helps!

"...never forget the true virtue of humility." This is part of our dojo kun (dojo oath). I think it is one of the MOST important things martial artists need to learn through out their studies. Humility, or failure should never be seen in the negative light. It is something that we must learn to embrace and step beyond it. Its part of a building block that makes us mentally and physically stronger. When we fail to suceed at something we desire, it should be the flame that makes us work and focus harder. This not only applies to martial arts but should be a life lesson. Something to think about... if you have never failed at anything in life, have you challenged yourself hard enough to allow for failure? Please don't take this remark as negative but just something to ponder.

Hold on to your honor and just forget about the situation. Revenge is not healthy. You got away from the situation uninjured, if you provoke it again you might not be so lucky next time I believe in Karma, those guys will get whats coming to them eventually.

It makes me sad that Kyokushin has segmented soooo much. Everyone forming there own organizations and such.

Although this has been discussed quiet a bit, here is my opinion: Myself, I enjoy contact fighting more than semi-contact/light contact. I find that I learn faster under these rules, and I find I have more fun under these rules. Notice how I use the word "I" as this is what works for me, myself but not necessarily for others. Martial arts is such a personal journey. I strongly believe that it is up to the practitionor to decide what is best for themselves.

Hrmm... I'm not really sure about he injuries. I think in tournements, yes a Kyokushin practitioner probably has a better chance for injuries. I've seen some broken ribs, a few concussions, and more commonly broken toes and fingers. However, I don't know what to say about class. I mean injuries do happen and I'm sure they happen in all styles of martial arts. I know that our instructor does what he can to try and minimize our risks for injury.

a must read article "why a black belt could be trouble&
Dijita replied to chylaxin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
No I agree. False hope is a downfall, but I don't think its strictly to those who practice non contact. I agree though, that a lot of people run around super confident (and sometimes arrogant) that they have a black belt. I also agree that confidence and arrogance can get them into trouble. There was a time when a Shotokan practitioner (please don't take this as a slam against Shotokan) who was a black belt and quiet cocky that he could beat anyone in a fight or tournement. He came to our Kyokushin school and ended up losing BADLY to one blue belt and one orange belt. Blue and orange in our style are fairly low levels. Sorry, I don't mean to seem like "I find problems with everything one reads"... thats not like me in the least bit. -
Hehe, I know my opinion is bias... but.... I LOVE Kyokushin! We do full contact in our classes and in our tournements. I've done point sparring tournements before but I have way more fun when I get to hit people hard, without protective gear, as well as take the hits. I also have the opinion that practicing with more realistic contact will benefit you slightly more. I know a lot of people that enjoy Shotokan as well. Perhaps you should take a few classes at both schools and decide for yourself what you like.

Dijita replied to chylaxin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This has been discussed quiet a bit already. I am pro contact in martial arts. That is why I enjoy Kyokushin. However the article has quiet a strong tone in it to put down styles that are non contact, which in my opinion is somewhat ignorant. -
Forward shoulder rolls are so much fun I remember years ago when I was in Kuk Sool Won, I always had to do demos where I would sprint at about 10 adults crouched down then spring and super man over them and go into a shoulder roll. Knowing how to shoulder roll has prevented many mountain bike injuries.

Dijita replied to G Money Slick's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
Osu! Mas Oyama was a very dedicated man. He has done many feats that other people could only imagine. I've seen videos of him fighting. It's quiet amazing to watch. Its like he is sooo calm and he just defends and then he finds the opening moves in and strikes. The one strike downs his opponent instantly.
