where does your nickname come from?
Midnight_kitty replied to Drunken Monkey's topic in General Chat
Well I just made up this nickname because of my cat. My sister named the cat kitty (how original) and kitty has the most annoying habit when I'm sleeping to scratch (it doesn't have claws...anymore) and bite my hair (I have pretty long hair). -
Maybe this should be put in the humor section. It doesn't sound to serious. Let me just say, in a girl's point of view, I agree with shotochem.

about 172-173 cm.

How far away is your club?
Midnight_kitty replied to aefibird's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My school takes about 30 minutes to get to on a normal day...but when its early in the morning and no one is on the road it takes about 15 min. -
I'm seeing a lot of shotokan karate students on here saying they break boards as part of your training. My shotokan dojo doesn't break boards. Do most shotokan dojo break boards?

Thanks for all the advice. I made an appointment with my doctor and I'll just have to wait and see what he says. I think I'll try and cut back on the running. Thanks again!

I've been in Shotokan karate for 2 years now. Lately my ankles have been killing me. Yesterday I was practicing the jump in empi and when I landed my right ankle gave out. I'm 18 years old and I'm pretty athletic. I practice karate 6 days a week for 2-3 hours a day. I lift wieghts 2 times a week and run 3 times a week. Is there any stretches or strength trainging exercises for my ankles? Or do I have to buy an ankle brace?

I got #9. The performer....I think my personality is more like #5 though.

I'll most likely be there. I haven't been in a lot of tournaments in awhile, but I think I have a pretty good chance as well. Good luck!

I've been taking Japanese class for a few years now. In my third class I responded to the teacher with osu (out of habit because of karate). She explained to me how it is incorrect to use that term. She told me that it is used by macho men and gangsters. She said its disrespectful if you use it with someone who has a higher rank than your own. Ever since than I just say hai in karate class...and in japanese -_-.

Sounds like a scam! It says to send $10 for an application. I'd say this is either a scam, a joke, or a cult. Either way its nothing worth looking into.

Oh yeah...just to let you know. My first day was great! I loved my classes and really didn't have too much of a problem with the class sizes(I met tons of new people).

Thanks for the support! I'm going to University of Illinois in Chicago. My major is journalism.

day at college. I'm really nervous. I went to a small high school and now I'm going to a huge college so I'm a bit afraid of how many people will be there. Wish me luck!

What made you do the Martial Art that you do?
Midnight_kitty replied to Metsubushi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My brother had been doing modern arnis for a few years and kept practicing the moves on me and my other sisters. Soon after we all took up different styles. I tried a few different ma and then finally ended up loving shotokan karate. Though I still enjoy aikido and plan on taking it up again. -
I usually do 20 push-ups...but the most I've done in a row(non-stop and in proper form) is 50.

Try https://www.centuryfitness.com. I like century products and it looks like they have quite a few different head gear. I have used a plastic face shield before and I haven't had to much discomfort with those. It takes a few times to get used to but its worth having. You can buy plastic ones here... http://www.superfoots.com/sparheadgear.html

Why not? My dojo doesn't like to have someone considered so much better because of the heierarchical structure. They don't like the whole 'I'm higher than you so you must listen to me'. In fact in Japan it doesn't matter what belt you are it matters what age to are....if a white belt is 40 and a black belt is 20 the black belt has to show more respect to the white belt. Also I find it pretty arrogant that a black belt thinks they have the right to dictate people just cause of the color of their belt(unless it is training...ie. kata, sparring). I think if a black belt has that mindset then they are obviously not ready to be a black belt.

How many fights have you been in?
Midnight_kitty replied to dissolved's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
who picked the 20+? -
Is the lady you sparred against an instructor? I thought she was just a black belt. If she says you can't get water then just don't listen. If she says anything else talk to your main instructor about it. Does your instructors let you get water? If they do then pay no mind to the black belt. And if they don't then quit the school you could find a better place thats more for you.

We have mirrors around all the walls in our dojo so we can see ourselves. My one friend also brought in a camera to tape sparring matches and see where we went wrong. She also videotaped kata. I never realize how well my kata are until I watch them. Then its just like oh wow I really can perform that kata well.
