  1. So do you know everything you are going to be doing on your grading through a syllabus? I used to go to a club that did that and i prefer the way that i grade now, were we dont have a clue about what we have to practice so we just practise everything to the fullest. That way i find you learn more.
  2. heres a list of our katas... as the list gets further down im unsure about the order but these are he ones we have to learn kion heian shodan heian nidan heian sandan heian yondan heian godan tekki shodan bassai dai kanku dai Enpi jion hangetsu bassai sho kanku sho tekki nidan jitte nijushiho jiin Sochin Gankaku Wankan Tekki Sandan Chinte Unsu Gojushiho sho Gojushiho dai and there we go!! :pony:
  3. you need to build up your confidence and start fighting trust me, once you start kicking ass yourself, you'll have a whole different view on kumite!! Its great fun!
  4. I used to be on icq but we got a major phone bill from me talking for hours that im not allowed anymore But im always on the net at school in my free periods and generally im always on here!
  5. I agree ...Tekken is the best mortal combat wasnt bad tho
  6. just turned 17! And you're NEVER too old to train, my mum is 48 and fit as a fiddle! in fact sometimes i think shes fitter than i am!
  7. Ive done karate since i can remember and its built up my confidence and my self esteem. My mum trains and its done the same for her too. I try and pursuade anyone to start training and as that artical shows, women can be just as dangerous as men when "picked on" Like u said though i wish people just thought twice before they attack you and then this wouldnt even have to be an issue.
  8. When i trained with the FSK i learned tekki shodan on the bottom, thin side of a long wooden bench. When i could do that properly, i had to do it blindfolded! It was so difficult and i was only about 9years old and that was probably the hardest kata i learned up until then. More recently i know unsu but CANNOT grasp the jump, i can land but cant get the height and its really annoying. Also I can never remember bassai sho, i have learnt it and practiced it again and again but with all the dodgy hand momements in it (very technical aren't i!) i just cant get up and perform it without forgetting what to do!! :spitlaugh:
  9. Just wondering if you guys could give my mum some encouragement...shes practicing like mad as she may be taking her black belt next year. My mum has one main aim, to get to her black belt before she is 50 and i really want her to do it! She does struggle sometimes and gets muddled and this frustrates her a lot as she knows she can do it! She used to have a mental block and forget her katas etc when she was put on the spot but shes got over it and even entered her first competition this year just to prove to herself she can do it!! Im really proud :karate:
  10. I'd just like to know if anyone does GKR and what its like. Ive heard some bad things about the association and would like to know why ... A) the chief ref is only a 2nd dan B)A lot of the instuctors arent really black belts C)People can go from being a beginner to a black belt in something stupid like 6 weeks D)And why would an association want their main concern to be their profit rather that their students??? Ive been approached by a GKR instructor when they came around my area door-to-door.The joining fee was something like £90 and the sessions were like £5 a time. Me and my mum went to watch and it was rubbish. Anyone got any ideas whats goin on with that?? :???:
  11. yes i no , and it was the quickest fight ive ever seen! Hajime Yamay Shikaku! well funny!
  12. i dont think you guys understand that i didnt mean it offensively and all i said was that it was a little outrageous dont you think! Believe it or not i can take i joke, and i dont think anything i said was too harsh so if you dont like the idea of me expressing what i think then thats not my problem! oh well ...
  13. Has anyone ever been in the situation where you have been in a competition and the judges are biass towards their own club? I hate it, once i was with my team kata at an international open and the main judge winked at this certain team (the team from his club!) and that team won (they were rubbish may i add). Many national and international competitions are like that (i find, anyway) and in no way whatsoever do i think its right because its the only thing about competitions that i dont like. I've seen people perform kata better than anyone else in the room and havent placed in the ranks just because other people are "favourites". And as for some kumite groups, scoring techniques which dont even happen?! whats that about? Recently I lost a fight because at a comp someone scored an ippon against me after yamay had been called and i was walking back to my line, i was so gutted. Any one else understand what im sayin? Just wondering what people think about it... :kaioken: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: [ This Message was edited by: *Joanne Siddall* on 2001-12-04 03:09 ]
  14. I was just wondering if anyone had ever seen the shaolin monks live and if so was it any good? They're coming to our city hall but tickets are a bit much i was just wondering if you think its worth seeing. I've only ever seen them on TV.

  16. any weapon, no matter how long can be fought against if you have the right technique so why you say that i dont know?
  17. Thanks everyone!!!!!!!
  18. Call me old fashioned but does anyone agree with me that the best weapon you can ever use is your fist. It comes from your mind and shows spirit and determination much better than any artificial weapon would. Anyone agree?
  19. It took me about 8years to get my black belt but i have been with many associations. The FSK is probably the strictest I have been with when it comes to giving belts out, they even do temporary grades! I once got a temporary purple belt when i was young and it upset me so much, i dont see the point in them.
  20. I entered that comp it was pretty good but you couldnt exactly call it massive could u!!!
  21. 26 katas isn't much at all! I felt so good once i had learned them all, it gives you such a range of combos and variations to practice! How can you complain!!!!!!!
  22. I'd laugh at people who tried to frighten me by cracking their fingers at me!! What would make it even funnier is if they broke a bone whilst fighting!!
  23. Has anyone heard of these new rules to be taking over next year so that karate can be an olympic sport?? My sensei was explaining to our club that rather than using wazaris and ippons , the new rules are going to be ippon, nion and sanbon...ippon being the old wazari, nion being the old ippon and sanbon being scored for a combination of techniques. Also its a fight for up to 20points or 2minutes. What does everyone think to this because nearly everyone i have spoken to about this all have different views on it. Personally I think it will be interesting but i cant make up my mind whether i like the idea or not. Joanne
  24. Does anyone ever try and use intimidation in competitions to frighten your opponents? I know a friend of mine got his competitor really wound up once by blowing kisses at him before they fought and it really worked!! I cant say i ever use any sort of intimidation apart from the odd stare, but it would be interesting to know if anyone has any weird techniques before a fight or been in a dodgy situation like that?!
