  1. Its a new club that has only very recently changed association, its held at King Edward v11 School. But the instructor has mentioned clubs at upperthorpe and stannington when ive discussed it with him so i guess that might be where he trains?
  2. Hi, simple question, id be grateful if someone could please explain the difference between the two. I do WTF taekwondo and theres a club nearby that does taekwonmudo that im interested in changing to (my club keeps changing all the moves, stances and patterns on a regular basis and its starting to get on my nerves!) - its just a thought at the moment but id be grateful if someone could enlighten me on what its like in comparison. Cheers
  3. cheers for that! FYI i didnt have surgery. I had 6 pots on! (pointing my foot down, then rising gradually until my foot was at 90degrees so as to stretch the tendon) just in case anyone was interested!
  4. sunny Rotherham, mind you, parkgate is great for shopping! Having gone totally off subject, i will let u know when something comes up!

  7. hi, welcome to karateforums!
  8. I ruptured my achillis tendon on January 10th 05. Im still in a pretty naff way, im walking with a limp, having physio/hydrotherapy and its still really tender. The consultant at the hospital will not give me a timescale for it getting better and just says it will be a slow process. Has anyone else had this injur before? If so, how long was it before you could be active again? What exercises can people recommend in the meantime as i fear im going to become unfit!! Im gutted too, i was meant to be taking my black belt grading in Tae Kwon Do in Ma and thats a definate no-no now can anyone make a naffed off girl happy saying it will all be fine by next week??
  9. i was taught not to look in the eyes, but to focus on the chest or the bottom of the neck, you have more chance of seeing any movement in your opponent (i.e. you opponent preparing to throw a punch) than if you were looking in their eyes.
  10. well done! im sure i speak for everyone when i say we are all proud of u!! Nice to hear success stories on karateforums!
  11. Hi guys Heard a rumour flying round that taekwondo tournaments are to be hyped up, i.e. only one mat instead of 3 or 4, use of spotlighting, a bit like boxing really, where one person would join the mat in a red gown, one in a blue, music playing to each persons walk on etc etc. Apparantly its to attract media interest into the sport. Is someone having me on or has anyone else heard this?
  12. easter is not easter without cadbury creme eggs!
  13. monkegirl has hit the nail on the head, do what she said in her post and you wont have a messy room anymore. she's suggested doing exactly what i do
  14. Keane are the best band going at the moment. Gwen Stefani is cool too but she's not a band is she..
  15. I think your heart really needs to be in it to be successful with quitting or you will never give up. I started smoking at school, probably around 12, 13 years old. I put it down to peer pressure getting the better of me, but I would go through 20 a day at school, and more at the weekend. I tried to give up loads of time as it really ate away at my money but I would always end up having a crafty fa.g and then it starts all over again. What made it worse for me was that although I smoked for about 8 years I never told my parents. I used to try and hide it from them best I could, but I felt terrible always having to go in the house and run upstairs before my parents had the chance to catch my scent! Im sure they knew. I got with my boyfriend when i was 15 and he didnt smoke, in fact he hates the thought, but he put up with it. When we started getting serious about our relationship i felt so guilty that he was having to put up with my ash tray smell and smoke always in his face. He had always said that he could never live with a smoker. I was sure that it would probably drive a wedge between us at some point so i gave up for him in August 04. And lo and behold, we've just bought a house together and things couldnt be better. I had an incentive to give up, and i think thats what helped me. Its the hardest thing i ever did but i could not feel better. I saved up a deposit for a house, got myself a new wardrobe, i became much fitter and i did not get out of breath so easy when i was training. And now I can hold my head up high that im not hiding things from my family anymore, and that I am probably going to live longer just by not putting a cancer stick in my mouth! best of luck with giving up. I craved for a few months but once you've got out of the routine its not so bad. Chew gum when you crave, but not nicotine gum, that stuff does nothing. Or go and make a cupper. Dont eat junk food everytime you crave or the weight will pile on. Hope that helps!
  16. Hi, just after a bit of advice really. My dad has acquired a few really old vogue magazines and we've been led to believe that they might be worth something... one in particular is the coronation edition. The magazines are British and are the following... Feb 1958 (number 2) May 1954 (number 5) June 1955 (number 6) December 1951 (number 12) June 1953 (number 6) I know its a long shot but does anyone know either 1) If they are valuable 2) if you know of anyone/anywhere where I can find out if they are of value or 3) if anyone would be interested in purchasing them. Or of course, if they are worth nothing, should we bin them!!!??? Cheers
  17. of course i'll let u know, any particular martial art? any particular 'rank' of competition, if u know what i mean? i think theres a tkd comp coming up in adwick sports centre doncaster soon cuz i was going to enter it, but i cant now with the leg. ill let u know if i get anymore info. ru from the yorkshire area yourself?
  18. we only decided on the bog standard survey, probably not the best option but we've had that much to pay out in solicitors fees etc that we couldnt afford it. aefibird, that was just the kind of hands on experienced advise i was after, thanks. i think i would rather go for a loft conversion too, but i guess it would be nice to make some kind of a function rm for the cellar as well, i think i will pursuade the bf to get the professionals in rather than try it himself! Or even better spend the money on making the main rooms how we want them first!! your house sounds exactly like the one i have bought, its in the 'crookes' area of sheffield. one small question i forgot to ask in my original post, theres a solid fuel fire in the front room, a cast iron one. i think its an eyesore and wanted rid straightaway to replace with an electric fire but everyone else, and i mean everyone i have said this too have said i would be crazy and i should keep it. what do you reckon? are they worth a few bob? or are they just nice in winter? ive never had one before, but i cant see the attraction! maybe once ive moved in and we try it i mite like it...
  19. cool, so what do you do for a living?
  20. what grade ru? i got to 2nd dan in shotokan, and im 1st kup in TKD btw do u use your ICQ?
  21. ive never had any weapons training in my life!! although i have a pair or foam nunchaku and i intend to learn!!!
  22. one thing i will say about karate, the tournaments were great. i loved them! i did both kata and kumite in just about every comp i could go to. thing is, TKD fighting is so different, muck quicker, and i am not the TKD fighter that i want to be yet, if you know what i mean.
  23. ive done a small patterns competition which i didnt do too well in, i intend to get more confident in tkd fighting and then eventually i would love to compete! how about u?
