Dif styles/full contact exp needed

ok thanks for the help. yeah i have definately considered kickboxing, itd be good for my anyways to improve my head defence, it leaves a big gap in my training leaving that anyway. i just wanted to get a bit more experience before i jumped into that. as for battling my mates, thats fine, and i do a lot of sparring as it is, but i really like developing myself through the rigours of competition: i need more experience with nerves, tension, etc etc. a couple of people mentioned full contact tkd: how prominent is this in australia? can someone give me a run down on the rules? is this what you see in the olympics? -

yeah i have definately considered trying the other factions, but the others done seem to offer a lot of tournaments either :s i havent been able to get a hold of the matsui group as yet tho... i will do a bit of research on those kyokushin spin offs, thankyou for that. as for the boxing and kickboxing, im having trouble finding a reputable and good boxing teacher, so its not something i want to do unless i have complete faith in the instructor. mixed martial arts i havent looked into much. i was wondering, do most of these competitions comprise of grappling? coz i havent had any experience in this. it seems, only off impressions, that mma still arent fully developed in australia, so the tournaments seem kinda 'underground.' i went to one competition, and there was a couple of styles who fought kyokushin fighters...i think one was wing chun??? would that be possible? keep the different possible styles and advice coming, thanks, grant -
Hey guys, I have been doing kyokushin karate for around 2 years now, and have recently been training quite intensively. i am really enjoying it, and have done a few full contact torunaments, and freestyle fights. being in australia, events arent exactly plentiful, in particular with the spilt of the kyokushin organisations. i was wondering if you could give me a quick list of what other martial arts compete with full contact rules, either full contact or padded. i am looking at fighting other styles to expand my skills and also to gain more experience. so yeah, if you guys give me the names of what other styles fight full contact (obviously thai and kickboxing will be on the list later) but yeah, just want as many avenues to research as possible, id like to fight once a month. thanks for any help, grant

what about in terms of actually spinting tho, what is a good setup in terms of how many meter sprints and how many times and how much rest in between? i wont be able to do the 200m sprint 200m jog for 20 mins. i want to keep that one in there tho...

ok thanks for the advice everyone, its reassuring in a way i guess. i havent been doing any sprints, so i will need to work on that a bit more, i think i will have to spend more time on the bag going 'flat out' as a move around a bit much i think. so how do u think i should structure my sprints, ive been running 5 days a week for 30 mins, i will swap these for 2 sprint sessions. how should i structure it on those mornings?

well this was my third full contact tournament. there was only 4 fighters in my division, it was novice lightweight under kyokushin rules, so barefisted with knees and elbows allowed, no punches to the face (tho u always cop a few) but kicks to the head allowed. as most of u would know ive been doing a fairly intensive program considering my level-running, sparring, conditioning, weights, bag work etc so i was in reasonably good condition. i was really nervous for the first fight, in fact i was nervous a week before. i fought a guy of good skill level, he was tough, and he fought the same as me. i went ok for the 2 minutes, but halfway through the extension i just completely ran out of stamina. he wasnt hurting me as such, i just completely died and his work rate was better than mine. i lost that fight. second fight i lost the taste for battle a bit so i wasnt as nervous. i fought well and it went to extension and my workrate remained pretty good, although this guy didnt stay on me as much so i was able to move around and play my own game. it was odd, i understand that nerves take energy away and so forth, and that can only be countered through experience, but i was really dissapointed that my stamina, which i thought was a strength going into the fight, left me so early, and so quickly. im used to doing rounds and so forth and not running out of steam. my question is, can anyone give me some good exercises to help with stamina under pressure. im thinking of changing my bag work out to more intense and longer periods, trying to rest as much. i really dont want it to happen again coz it was dissapointing i lost due to lack of stamina and not being hurt. help me out and give me as much advice as possible, i got the best thing out of it and that was to learn from it. btw ill hafta change my training for a bit coz i broke my big toe down the bottom halfway through the second fight. excellent. keep in mind i fight in the nationals in 2 months, so my training will be geared towards that. thanks a lot.

Ok basically, ive been training really hard, very hard. gym 3 times a week, 5 kyokushin classes with a lot of contact and stamina and a morning run and bag workout and other exercises. ive been holding this routine down for a while, with the odd morning missed but ive been consistent with everything else. im training towards a full contact state tournament, and ive noticed good results. however, the last couple of weeks ive struggles, really have, and i fORCED myself to get up and run and so forth. the past week, ive been really tired and havent been enjoying training. now i understand these are common symptoms of overtraining. so i pegged it back a bit and rested more. but now, i have no motivation to train at all. mentally i just have really hit a rut. usually ive always been prepared to do my afternoon classes, infact i always have. but lately i just want to chill out. i wouldnt usually care, i understand you need rest periods. but im concerned because in 2 weeks i fight full contact in a tournament i trained so hard for. the ground work is there, i wont lose all that in 2 weeks. but, aside from rest, what can i do to help get my motivatino back? and what would you scale back my training program to for the last 2 weeks? even if i could be bothered it wouldnt be wise to continue on my hard program, so what cardio and weights would you do for the nbext 2 weeks to get keep me prepped and as to not lose any condition? thanks for any help.

ok thanks for the help. what about in terms of just 'fun' exercises that arent necessarily karate based. for instance just fitness games or exercises that i could 'pass off' as being 'stamina' and footwork' training, without resorting back to tiggy :s. i just want a couple of exercises to break up the class and keep the little ones excited.

hey guys, i am currently a blue belt in kyokushin karate and have been training consistently for about 2 years. i have recently began helping my sensei take a kids class one night a week. i just help in demonstrating technique and so forth, but my teacher wants me to take a simple part of the class in order to help my own teaching abilities. im responsible for taking an activity to last around 10 to 15 minutes that will help in developing karate skill but will also help in maintaining interest and take the 'drain' out of relatively hard and mundane training for kids. i need some ideas. i took a relay type exercise last week which started well, but it was far from creative. my question is, i need as many, and varied activities as possible that help areas such as footwork, stamina, technique, whatever, just as long as they are fun. thanks very much for any help. cheers.

Just wondering what music or particular songs you would recommend as being useful for the martial artist. Specifically im after songs to get me pumped up and in the mood for bag work, just after a list to download and whack on a mixed cd. im not after oriental tunes to soothe ones spirit and focus the mind etc. just after cool songs to get me pumped and the odd motivational lyric. cheers. can be anything from rap to classical. and i understand it will vary from person to person, just give me your opinions

Hey guys, although training is going to ease up for christmas at the end of this week, im rather dedicated to improvement at the moment. Im training in kyokushin and won the Australian lightweight novice nationals recently. I want to keep in top shape and i have a hell of a lot i want to improve. i realise i cant go over the top, but im doing strength work in the gym, and going to karate 3-5 times a week, and im recovering from this ok. So, im thinking of gradually adding in extra workout sessions. i was thinking of the following routines: Monday: Skipping-2 minute light. 15 second rest. 2 minute pepper Light stretching/light kicks Shadow Fighting to loosen up Heavy bag: Outside drill-circling both ways using jabs, reverse punch etc-3 * 1 minute rounds. 15 second rest Skipping- 1 minute knee raises Stretching kicks: Knee kicks, front, side, back. 10 each leg for each kick Front kick: 20 each leg. Heavy bag: 15 each leg Sit ups: 3 sets-varied exercises Push ups: max Conditioning- Stomach&chest-2 minutes Deep stretching Each day i will keep the skipping, stretching etc the same and i will change the bag work to: Tuesday: Heavy bag: Inside drill: Hooks, uppercuts, bob n weave. Roundhouse: 20 each leg. Heavy bag: 15 each leg Conditioning: Shins Wednesday: Heavy bag: Jabs Side kicks: 20 each leg. Heavy bag: 15 each leg Conditioning: Stomach Thursday: Heavy Bag: Speed drill(min 4 punch combos) Hard drill, speed drill. Front, Roundhouse, Side kicks: Chamber/Hold kicks. 5 each leg. Conditioning: Shins Friday: Bag workout: 3 2 minute rounds using all techniques Any help, inclusions, deletions or suggestions are appreciated. Anything ive missed that could be of benefit or so forth. Thanks for any help. Cheers, grant

Hey guys, im thinking of doing boxing 1 day a week to supplement my kyokushin training. Im doing kyokushin karate 3 times a week, and the conditioning training and so forth is reasonably intense, however i feel as tho i need to learn punching to the head in a controlled environment. What do u think of wacking boxing 1 time a week in? Also, not sounding like a *, but the brain damage thing concerns me...how real is the danger. i guess it depends on how controlled the environment and so forth actually is. ive heard that 8 in 10 boxers suffer brain damage later in life....how much does head protection reduce the risk? these questions have know doubt been asked, but any information is helpful thanks grant

hey guys. ive seen on afl ffooty that when someone cops a bit of a knock or an injury to a muscle, the doctors spray something on it the commentators refer to as 'magic spray' what is it?

What Leg Strengthening exercises should I use?
40 cent replied to Red Triangle student's topic in Karate
my instructor recommens holding atleast 1 stretch for at least 2 minutes if you can do it. we do some stretches with partners, and i was wondering, if you were to do this, what stretches would you work on holding for this period. atm i just do the front splits -
yeah you are right, itll be a challenge for me to stay relaxed, but it is a good point to make. i go for it next sunday so ill let you know how i go btw, whats stop people from using 'infinite combos'? it seems that in training, some people go into 12 strike combos that arent really that crisp but nevertheless they score and get hard to block.
-
yeah thanks guys. we arent allowed to use any open hand techniques. what are some combos your recommend?

Hey guys, ive been working heavily on full contact sparring and bag work, and recently my left main knuckle has been aching, and its a little inflamed and really red. Obviously ive been working it hard and its injured to some extent, but im a tad concerned that when i move the skin, it kinda grinds underneath and feels really sinewy, is this normal? Have 'over-damaged' it? Also, i jarred my thumb and it is taking a really long time to heal (couple of months, i keep knocking it) obviously the best thing is to rest it and let time heal it, but is there any method to speed the process? Would you be using ice or deep heat? Additionally, whats your opinion on applying metholated spirits to wounds on the knuckles? Thanks Grant

Hey guys, after 7 or so months of training and moving to a new dojo and finally being allowed to compete, i figured what the hell, im gonna go in a tournament. so i signed up for one that is 3 weeks away :s close i know. its non contact, just a point tournament so it will be good for the experience win or lose. just after ANY advice on the little preparation ive got, dealing with the nerves, and actual procedure/helpful tactics/combos to use when im out there. thanks guys grant

Sasparella root-a natural steroid? Amino acids...
40 cent replied to 40 cent's topic in Health and Fitness
i guess im after strength, but lean muscle. i dont want to get huge, certainly put on a bit of mass, but i am thin atm, so i just want to have the muscle there and be toned, i dont want to be seen as real 'big' tho thanks for the help buddy -
OK, talking to a big boy today haha, and he suggested that sasperalla root if prepared in the right way acted as a natural steroid, any opinion on this? Also, can anyone give me some info on amino acid intake in tablet form for weight training. Theres also been some talk of b12 in tablet form, although i thought u had to get that off ur doc. If any info can be given, id like to know what are the best supplements to take, how often and if they have any side effects. thanks grant
