  1. Good luck with your weight loss programme Sky! :)Don't forget to let us know how you're getting on.
  2. Good luck with your possible move to Ausin TX Beka! I hope everything goes well for you.
  3. Beka... what on earth is Dave's Ultimate Insanity Sauce?? It sounds like my kind of food! lol I shouldn't worry too much about the dreams. People tend to dream about the stuff that's happening a lot in their lives or dream about stuff they enjoy. You clearly enjoy your MA training, so it naturally comes out in your dreams.
  4. oooh, that was a cheap shot!! We're not all hooligans ya know...(just most of us )
  5. Hi coastguard, welcome to Karate Forums! I hope you manage find a new TSD program soon.
  6. Aaaah, I used to have that!! I'd forgotten all all about it until now. 1980's games were well cool.
  7. How many of you got into martial arts because your parents/brother/sister/children/grandma does or did do martial arts? I was just wondering if people tended to become martial artists if members of their family also are martial artists.
  8. Aye, there is that but at least the V-necks don't tend to flap open at inconvenient moments (which can be embarassing if you're a woman).
  9. lol, obviously my karate training requires me to have chocolate 'cos I can't stop thinking about white choc and milk choc and mint flavour and orange flavour and, and, and....
  10. At the risk of offending my brothers & sisters in the rest of Europe, may I just say... COME ON EN-GER-LAND!!! I may be an eternal optimist but I know we're gonna win the footy this year. (well, maybe...)
  11. Darn right we are!! I once got the (dubious) honour of being the player who comitted the most fouls in one season of school hockey... Whack 'em in the legs with the stick is my policy. lol
  12. Hi and welcome to Karate Forums! I'd check out the TKD if you can afford it; 1-to-1 tuition sounds great!! If the TKD classes are a little beyond your budget, then I'd suggest karate. I train karate and aikido and I find they're a good complement to each other. However, the best plan would probably be for you to go and try out a few classes of each MA to see which you prefer. You've already had some Arnis experience - the fact that you'd be the only female there might not be an issue once you get training. I'm the only female student at my Aikido club. Good luck!
  13. That's the downside of training in a Japanese martial art - the style of gi!! I'd much prefer it I we could wear V-neck tops instead of the traditional tie ones.
  14. Welcome to Karate Forums!
  15. Hi Laura, welcome to KF!
  16. Hi and welcome to Karate Forums!
  17. Welcome to KarateForums Koreyu!
  18. My karate style starts students off a 10th kyu (white belt). To get your 9th kyu you have to be able to demonstrate basic plocks and kicks and punches, do some 3-step basic sparring and perform a kata (form) as well as answer simple questions about shotokan. My aikido style starts students off at 7th kyu, although some schools start at 5th kyu and some have as many kyu grades as 10 or 12.
  19. That's a good idea, aes.
  20. Can you let me have some more info about that comp in Barnsley, please? Is it open to non-KUGB students? As I'm not in the KUGB I can't get a year planner... I do go on courses and get to know info that way, but it's always good if people from other organisations share stuff with you - that way everyone is kept in the know and there's a bigger range of people at competitions, seminars etc not just the same old faces.
  21. £15 for kyu grades, which includes a 1 &1/2 hour training session beforehand, plus a certificate & belt. I paid £40 to test for my shodan, but I think it's just gone up a bit. The price for all dan gradings is the same. Dan grading costs include a 2 & 1/2 hour training session beforehand, plus an enormous certificate (it's almost A2 paper size!) and a belt, although the belt is cheap quality. Re-tests for kyu grades are free, it's an extra £5 to re-test for a dan grade.
  22. Welcome to Karate Forums ctsmaster! Sorry, I can't give you any info on that style - I've never heard of it 'til now.
  23. Martial Arts has made an enormous change in my life. I have more confidence, I'm fitter, I feel happier when I'm training, I have more discipline (in myself) and I'm likely to stick with stuff longer now. However, that's just me. I think that MA has changed my life - for some people it perhaps won't.

    Bunkai

We study the bunkai regularly. Sensei sets us tasks to think of the bunkai for a particular section of a certain kata. We go away & think about it then get back together and try it out. Practicing applications is very important - if you can't make the techniques work then there's not a lot of point in studying the bunkai in the first place.
  25. Good luck for your 6th kyu test, BlobOn! Hope you do well.
